This is a discussion rather than a Q&A, so I'll leave it here:

Current project: create typology of mobile game player types. Plan: open-ended pilot study to get at motivations; big survey with lots of questions; factor analyze. Any suggestions as to references I might want to read/inventories to look at? Or any suggestions for how to get at this better than the method I described? Fun fun fun!
