Q: My daughter's friend faked having cancer - our daughter found out via Facebook and is devastated. What do we do?

bedfordsh585kplOur daughter Angela (not her real name), who's 15, showed us a Facebook message she received from her friend Lauren (not her real name), who's 15, it said basically that Lauren had been faking having cancer, and that it was just a scam to gain money. The Facebook private message was sent on Tuesd...

Where's this question's dupe?
"Now our daughter is devastated [having been betrayed by one of her friends at school], and isn't trusting of new people, she doesn't even want to go out to events with us [and has] had nightmares and flashbacks about this since Tuesday.

@Mazura - I don't know; where is it's dupe? I don't remember seeing one, but if you can find one that you think is a dupe, close vote it as such.
That will put it in the queue, etc.

@anongoodnurse - Sorry, that's a bit off an offhand comment. I know of no questions like this. I just assumed the subject had been brought up before.
I'm just irked that people want to talk about Facebook and cancer, before the important part: the daughter.

@Mazura I think that the Facebook part is relevant, since there's a possibility it was a mean joke (e.g., the friend actually has cancer) and addressing it should encapsulate that. The circumstances of that betrayal inform how to approach the situation.
