but then, i've also seen muslims who call qaradawi a sufi who does not know fiqh, or say that Umdat as-Salik wa 'Uddat an-Nasik, the shafii manual of fiqh, is christian propaganda
but im surprised the salafis dont even pump money into translating the sources they favor
i would have expected a full version of ibn kathir to be easily available, but it isnt
i suppose the salafis dont need to translate the scholarly works they rely on, they almost have a monopoly on widespread material, so that alone guarantees they get a large share of converts; might even hurt them to translate scholarly works
and if people could read what the classical scholars said, then they would realize that ibn taymiyyah and others the salafis rely on were not as highly regarded as the salafis claim
the salafis are basically what evangelical christian preachers are, just as muslims; they are uncompromising, they neglect a lot of the tradition, they do not ever admit to being wrong, and they have very charismatic representatives
about al-dhahabi and ibn-khatir , ibn-alqaim and a lot of ibn-taymyahh students they are less than him in knowledge and they have different view than him in some issues and they have other teachers than him ..! he is the icon of his age until today ! so he must be controversial !
well , you can't compare our days salafis with ibn-taymiyahh !! :)
well i think criticism could be accepted from a very big and knowledgeable scholar like ibn-taymyahh for those student and small-scholars they have to show their point of view with some respect
