12 hours later…
8:52 PM
@MustaphaElbazi Are you a shiite? You linked to al-islam.org in your answer here, and that's a shia site.

@G.Bach didn't know it's a shiist website :)
i didn't find any interpretation

what tafsir site do you usually use?
qtafsir.com has what seems to be an abridged version of ibn kathir

use arabic ones :)

oh right, of course

didn't find any text in almaun tafsir in qtafsir !!!!11

9:07 PM
yeah, english translations of any work of tafsir is most often shortened, or even does not contain some surahs

:/ islamic english resources is developped day by day

im very surprised by this
but then, i've also seen muslims who call qaradawi a sufi who does not know fiqh, or say that Umdat as-Salik wa 'Uddat an-Nasik, the shafii manual of fiqh, is christian propaganda
but im surprised the salafis dont even pump money into translating the sources they favor
i would have expected a full version of ibn kathir to be easily available, but it isnt

:P here in arabic world we have more people like that !

but click my link above to qtafsir, and on the bottom there is "next", and thatll give what ibn kathir said on each of the ayat

well ibn-kathir and other tafser books and old hadith books are something matual with the majority of sunni schools
the Dispute is in some specific beliefs !
and practices

9:13 PM
ibn kathir as well? it took quite a while until i realized he was a student of ibn taymiyyah; i know he is a lot less controversial than ibn taymiyyah

well about salafis they have a lot of money now , they just have to know how to spend them
ibn-taymyyah day by day getting less controversial between sunni scholars
i know some modern suophis and acha-ira

i suppose the salafis dont need to translate the scholarly works they rely on, they almost have a monopoly on widespread material, so that alone guarantees they get a large share of converts; might even hurt them to translate scholarly works

say very good things about ibn'taymyahh
i didn't get your last point !!!

i mean, the salafis might have an effective strategy without translating classical works

9:17 PM
and if people could read what the classical scholars said, then they would realize that ibn taymiyyah and others the salafis rely on were not as highly regarded as the salafis claim
the salafis are basically what evangelical christian preachers are, just as muslims; they are uncompromising, they neglect a lot of the tradition, they do not ever admit to being wrong, and they have very charismatic representatives

about al-dhahabi and ibn-khatir , ibn-alqaim and a lot of ibn-taymyahh students they are less than him in knowledge and they have different view than him in some issues and they have other teachers than him ..! he is the icon of his age until today ! so he must be controversial !
well , you can't compare our days salafis with ibn-taymiyahh !! :)

exactly, and people would realize this if they could read what he wrote, and the salafis dont want to lose followers, so they dont translate it
i have read that he was far less critical of sufi muslims than salafis are
and that there have been scholars who have called him a kafir for saying that hell is not eternal

well i think criticism could be accepted from a very big and knowledgeable scholar like ibn-taymyahh
for those student and small-scholars they have to show their point of view with some respect

what do you mean?

i'am coming in 10 min as max :)

9:28 PM
i gotta go for today, sorry

well good night :)
