@MacMania The problem with hypothetical, learning-focuses questions often is that they are, well, hypothetical. Transferring the whole disk from Mac A to B is rather different from copying the data of one user, and might require different ways (I wouldn't use rsync for the whole disk scenario for instance)

@patrix What would you suggest using?

So asking for a script to copy a whole disk from Mac A to B using rsync in a way just doesn't make sense because it doesn't match your usage scenario.
For what: copying of a user directory or cloning the whole disk (including macOS)?

Yes.

user directory: ssh + rsync probably (but even that will not work with a one-click script)
for the whole disk: it depends, but probably a disk imager of some kind (or SuperDuper, or CCC)
If you say "I am having difficulty reproducing", are there specific details you are struggling with which can be turned into questions? Or, to start with, something you can google for to get some basic information ready for you?

I'm interested in automation scripting. Any kind of references to improve on writing script to automate tasks would be helpful. ie: cronjobs, simplifying tasks with bash scripts, essentially self servicing things.

That's how a lot of people start with bash scripting. I would recommend to focus on day-to-day tasks (things you can actually use afterwards), to get a good book on bash, to read introduction articles, to look at bash-focused questions here and on SuperUser etc. You will pick up skills step-by-step that way.

OK, thank you for the information.

You are welcome.
If you need some hints or pointers on things you are stuck with, asking here in chat might get you better answers than asking a real question on the main site.

OK, cool. I just got access to this chat recently. I guess you have to have a certain amount of points.

@MacMania Yes, you do :-) Anyway, for most of your questions it might be easiest to just google the subject first. Usually there are tons of articles out there already on these topics.
