@GraceNote I could totally find a way to shoehorn that into a Neptunia question

user15026
@fbueckert I know, I read the post. I just think that it is kinda impractical

user15026
But what do I know

@BenBrocka But would it be the best way to present the question?

@AshleyNunn Running through the old ones? Yes. Going forward? We can make an effort to ensure it works.

user15026
@fbueckert I know that.

user15026
7:01 PM
I am capable of reaching that conclusion, and I have. I just personally don't like it.

@GraceNote Depends on your definition of "best" of course

@AshleyNunn Sorry, didn't mean to sound condescending. Just misread your tone.

@BenBrocka Illustrative of the actual problem in a way that people will likely search for.

@GraceNote You are zero fun

user15026
I just think it is going to introduce a bunch of random editing all over the place as people try to decide if the game name is needed, also, it makes me wonder what the point of tags are.

7:04 PM
@BenBrocka You can be fun and practical. I like humorous titles, but they work best when they're literally what people are going to search for. That's what "How can I tell if a corpse is safe to eat?" did, lack of game name aside.

@GraceNote I'm just confused as to why that isn't on Arqade meta

user15026
Because now, over my time here, I have been told o many differing things and it is very confusing

that kind of looks like public shaming honestly

user15026
@badp Okay, so I am not the only one who felt that way.

@badp It was wanted to be presented as a general advice for all sites on the network, and then referred to us separately.

user15026
7:05 PM
@GraceNote It kinda feels like a hahahahhaha look at Arqade doin' stuff wrong! post

@AshleyNunn I know.

RIP

@AshleyNunn IT sounds annoying.

user15026
@Wipqozn That too

The reason we often don't include the title in the tag is because a lot of the time the title just sounds unnatural.

user15026
7:10 PM
@Wipqozn Yep. And tags are generally considered the bit that sorts that out.

Tags exist for a reason. If you're not supposed to look to them for information, then why are they presented along with the question excerpt?
IF the title is the only information you need then displaying tags along with the excerpt is just clogging up the excerpt.

"How do I blankety blank in World of Warcraft?" feels a little bit too close to "How do I blankety blank, as a programmer?", which I've been trained to have a visceral negative reaction to. That's probably why I never write my question titles that way, even though I should.

This just strikes me as "Arqade doesn't know what they're doing, because we've thought about this." We've thought about this too, and also have learned through Experience.

user15026
@Wipqozn THIS THIS THIS

user15026
@Wipqozn If we are appending game names to things, then why have tags?

7:12 PM
Sounds like y'all got some good things to write as an answer, then! Especially the "We already know about this advice" parts.

Guys. Guys.
This is great

@AshleyNunn Tags serve a purpose outside of just game tags.

user15026
@Wipqozn Oh, I know, I am just distilling my arguements to basic level today, apparently

user15026
@BenBrocka I am way too entertained

@AshleyNunn I think you're just grumpy you don't have Animal Crossing.

7:14 PM

@BenBrocka I lost it at Golsey.

user15026
@Wipqozn Neither do you, though

@AshleyNunn Yeah, but I'm going to have it on June 9th. You'll probably RESIST for a while, and then cave in at some point.

user15026
@Wipqozn NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOPE

As the Borg would say, resistance is futile.

7:15 PM
@GraceNote In the Titanic example, those are terrible tags anyway.

user15026
@OrigamiRobot That too

user15026
@BenBrocka Oh my god

This isn't even my final form

@OrigamiRobot I guess it was meant to be humorously terrible

7:18 PM
It's supposed to be just the eye but the little tinges from the screws make it look like a very "What." grimace.

user15026
@GraceNote It really does

It hungers

Pffff

@GraceNote Magneduck is pretty amusing too

@TimStone "Oh good heavens my head has turned into a robot!"

7:22 PM

Or Poliduck with its vortex mouth:
@OrigamiRobot Damn you for making me audibly laugh in the office.

So are you planning on posting pictures of all 150? If so can you tell me how long it'll take so I know how long to leave for?

Paode wonders where it all went wrong

@TimStone Weezing faces are the best.

7:23 PM
@OrigamiRobot the baby is horrified

user15026
@BenBrocka What the shit.

I'll just leave this last one... and I guess in the same vein this one.

user15026
@GraceNote Dat face.

7:25 PM
Oddish's face makes some good ones too

@Powerlord 150? I think you mean (150 choose 2), or 11175

Oh man, Slowpoke on second is way too much good to work with.

@murgatroid99 I don't do pokemon, so I just assumed they were posting pics of the 150 new ones from whatever new Pokemon game was announced.

Not all of them are included unfortunately

@Powerlord They're combinations of the original 150

7:27 PM
Parasect is instant glasses apparently.

Koffing is good too.

Nevermind, I'll just adblock that site.

@Powerlord :(

Q: Do blood dragons have a "weak spot"

DarkWolffeDuring my playthrough of Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, I've noticed a small glowing spot on the blood dragons' chests. Is this some sort of weak point? Is there a way to deal extra damage to one?

7:35 PM
@GraceNote "How do I know a corpse is safe to eat?"

@kalina obviously nethack

@kalina Pretty sure that post is against that as well.

How do I tell if a title is safe to post?

@GraceNote well I disagree with the post on principle then
we, as a community, will resist having our hilariously out of context titles taken away from us
5

I still stand by the defense of our corpse question because, even though it's hilarious out of context, it remains a strong title in representation.

user15026
7:38 PM
I think that this is trying to solve a problem that I am not entirely convinced exists
2

it doesn't exist here, we manage out own titles well

@kalina Honestly we do often err on "loltitles" and I can see how they might want to steer us towards better title for our own sake

our titles are fine
funny titles attract more views
it's counter productive

only more network views

user15026
@badp In some ways, yes, there are members of the community that operate that way but also, I think, there is a larger number that doesn't

7:41 PM
Stop saying titles. It's becoming a non-word.

@OrigamiRobot titles

@OrigamiRobot "question subject" was never a word to begin with

@OrigamiRobot also, skittles

It also looks like another word which makes all this even funnier.
@kalina mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
Don't mind if I do.

user15026
@OrigamiRobot ......O.o

7:42 PM
Wow, even among bumblebee standards, this one is fat.

my favorite title in a while "How often will a horse egg contain a donkey?"

@AshleyNunn What!?

user15026
@OrigamiRobot Well, the word list I can come up with that is visually similar is short and the easiest one is now giving me ridiculously inappropriate giggles.

user15026
And I BLAME YOU

git blame @OrigamiRobot

7:45 PM
@badp But...comedy!

evening people

user15026
@Blem Afternoon! :)

@badp, all - just wanted to use every forum I can to say this: separate from any disagreement on the position, I'm sorry that my MSO post looked to some folks like veiled criticism of gaming. I genuinely think it's an issue on many sites, so I wanted a cross-network guideline that's clearer up. I used mostly gaming examples because they're more broadly meaningful than some sites, but given that, I should have posted on your meta first. So, I'm sorry.

I just got back from lunch. Food is good.

@Jaydles It's okay. I'm afraid I still don't see what the actual problem is, but if you didn't mean it I have no reason to believe otherwise.

7:52 PM
@Jaydles I don't think anybody took it as a criticism of us

I do understand that you're doing this for our own and all other sites' good.

Robots don't hold grudges.

@badp, I sure hope I am - that's the goal, anyway. Needing the tags to know what's up makes it really hard for a visitor to get sucked in as fast...

@TimStone WHAT IS THIS I DON'T EVEN

7:54 PM
@kalina South Park, of course

I am so hungry that I need food
I am not sure which food to consume

13 mins ago, by kalina
@OrigamiRobot also, skittles

@Jaydles It sorta defeats the purpose of tags, I feel.

skittles is not actually "food"

If the title is a standalone, what good are the tags?

7:55 PM
DO NOT BLASPHEME

@fbueckert what? retag everything ? ON MY WAY
UNTAG ALL THE THINGS!

What? No! Stop it!
Bad skittles eater!

@fbueckert, they're for filtering, but many people never filter, especially new users.

RAAAAAAAAAH om nom nom nom nom
Dominos pizza it is

@Jaydles I understand that. They're two things that seem sort of redundant, though. I have no issue with putting game names into titles, as long as it's done naturally. But requiring it in both places seems like overkill.
We just had a question about titling questions, and by far and away, the general consensus was, Natural good, required bad.

Q: Since Arqade does not allow questions with the same titles, should I put the game name of a same-title question at the start or the end of the title?

galacticninjaConsider that: Arqade does not allow questions with the same titles (even if they're about different games and are tagged differently). See this meta post: Disable the "question with the same title" filter on Arqade SE puts game tags at the start of the question webpage title, so that the SE we...

7:58 PM
He might be alerting us that we haven't been very faithful to this policy though

59 mins ago, by fbueckert
@AshleyNunn We had a phase for awhile that was meant to rely on tags for SEO. Misunderstood, as it turns out, but them's the breaks.
Clarification is good, I agree.

@fbueckert, I don't think I'm dissenting. I DON'T want you to force the tags in - I DO want titles that let you browse without the tags.
