Q: What are acceptable file formats for a splash screen?

I'm planning to both sponsor games and develop games for a game portal and I'm wondering, what are some of the most acceptable formats to have my splash screen created in? i.e. SWF? Mp4? etc...

I did that, it said there were no errors :) (I actually tried that last night to see what it would say)
