What I've heard is it is their way of pulling out the developer tools from the "standard" flavor eventually and making a "developer" browser and a "normal" browser version

I don't disagree, but the plugins can't hook into certain things in the browser most of the time, so the native developer tools will have a lot more power

Things like profiling and memory and such just aren't really there for the plugins

6to5 is actually pretty neat, because it has support for a pretty wide range of ES6 features/sugars, does translation locally, and produces very readable code

this looks like a rather expensive trick, especially if you want the error to be on the foo and not the let line.

If it was var that code would work

You have to either remember when foo was last used, so you can raise the exception in the right place when you encounter the let

...or you have to do multiple passes

first look for lets to build some sort of blacklist, then check if each variable used is in the blacklist

@badp No, the example is to show that hoisting, which works if the variable was declared with var, doesn't work with let
