"giant"
As if the question I linked isn't as giant
Hell, the answerer even spent the time to link YT videos to it, explain the locations and where they could be found

@Ktash I think it's not the number of things he wants so much as the fact that he wants an answer with 42 images

"Where exactly are all of them, and are there any telling signs "

@murgatroid99 this.
A simple list of 42 things is easy enough to provide. But looking for pictures and further information on 42 things, is a lot

I'm actually not sure at the moment if it's close worthy, but it's not a good question

@Retrosaur I'm also not sold on this one being good for Arqade

6:02 AM
What's wrong, are we resorting to text only answers? What is this, Yahoo! Answers?

seems like something an FAQ would be better to cover

user15026
@Retrosaur Seriously, man, insulting us isn't going to get you anywhere

Then can it be converted to a FAQ question
THere is nothing online. Literally.
I seriously wish there was something online, but there just isn't.
There is a gear editor, but that only lets you preview stats, and not visual looks

@Retrosaur That's not how it works

@Retrosaur I meant something more like gamefaqs

user15026
6:03 AM
@Retrosaur We don't really have a model for that

And how would that fit this question?
"game faqs"
>implying gaming.SE doesn't have a FAQ bar at the top

@Retrosaur He's saying that this type of information repository would be better suited for another site
@Retrosaur And that's entirely not what that's for

@Retrosaur not quite the same thing

user15026
@Retrosaur Our FAQ is a SITE FAQ

Wait, wait @Ktash or @murgatroid99 Can you link that question on meta about the lsit

user15026
6:04 AM
not place for FAQ type gaming questions

@Retrosaur what?

I'll just ask on meta then
You linked some question about asking list/catalogue question earlier
I can't find it

user15026
@Retrosaur Go for it, but it is a bulky and unwieldy question.

Q: List questions: Community Wiki?

TRiGThere are absolutely loads of payment gateways out there, and I'd like a comprehensive list of them. There's already a question asking for the "best" ones, What is the best credit card processing service? and another asking for ones suitable for a charity Can anyone recommend a payment gateway fo...

Thanks!

8 mins ago, by Ktash
@Retrosaur False

@Decency I've not voted either way on that question, as I'm not sure how I feel about it myself. I do think, though, that Halo 2 was kind of a pioneer in that field. I'd never heard of a skill-based matchmaking system before they did theirs for Xbox Live.

@Fluttershy It was. They publish a research paper on it or something even
But I don't know if that makes it a good fit

user15026
@Fluttershy I do think it needs better tags, though

Oh.
Aaaaaand gone.

user15026
:8202446 I just think the long list of games as tags doesn't work well

6:07 AM
@Retrosaur wait, you are posting it on our meta, and not MSO, right?

user15026
@Ktash Yeah, please don't put it on MSO, this is a site-specific issue

Not necessarily
Asking on MSO will help clarify that issue
with the biking site
Beccause you still havent addressed
why that question is still a good fit
and not closed

@Retrosaur It is a site specific issue, and should be on our meta

Dear Princess Celestia, today I learned that the Bridge can't ever get along or agree on anything. They don't know the true magic of friendship. Then everypony in the Bridge lived grumpily ever after, except for @AshleyNunn. She has donut holes. The End.

And then you can all gang up on me. Great. Nice try though.

6:11 AM
if it needs to be escalated to MSO, it will be

@Retrosaur It's their problem

I'll get my opinions elsewhere, not here.

user15026
@Fluttershy I have a belly fulla donut holes. I am happy

user15026
@Retrosaur ...buit thats not how it works

user15026
What soever

6:12 AM
Alright, then try clearing up my issue

user15026
MSO is for SO issues or network issues.

@Fluttershy Dear Princess Celestia, today I learned that sometimes friends can argue and disagree, but in the end they all stay friends. Your faithful student, Twilight Sparkle

@Retrosaur That is for bicycles to decide, not us
we are a different community

@Retrosaur Stop asking that. That is their business and has no bearing on our policy

6:13 AM
@murgatroid99 That sounds like an actual line from an episode. O_o

user15026
@Retrosaur Dude, we aren't bicycles or SU, or any other site. Each site works differently

user15026
@Fluttershy It really does, and now I am reading it in her voice

@AshleyNunn Completely untrue, read this:

@Fluttershy I think it's actually similar to one, but it's probably more a generalization of a bunch of them

For some reason, I read my own in Applejack's voice.

6:14 AM
List questions are generally off-topic everywhere in the SE network. – Robert Harvey♦

user15026
@Retrosaur Yes, and?

Deeeer Preeyuncess Celestyuh.

user15026
There are some similarites, sure, which is why we are a network

@Fluttershy "Dear Princess Celestia, I didn't learn anything; I was right all along"

user15026
but there is still room for differences

6:14 AM
@murgatroid99 I loved that one. =P

user15026
Eeeergh plain unglazed old fashioned timbits are teh WORST

user15026
Sites do get some autonomy

user15026
Those two sentences are not related.

Alright then, explain this

Q: Where are all of the hidden vault symbols for the "Cult of the Vault" challenges?

SeanThere are a few "hidden Vault Symbols" in each area. Where exactly are all of them, and are there any telling signs when you're close by?

It's asking pretty much for a list
Where are all the cult of the vault
there are at least 3 per location, and there's a ton of locations

@Retrosaur There are two different kinds of list questions

6:16 AM
Whoa....what

@Retrosaur And I'm saying I don't agree that is a good fit either.

Run that by me again

user15026
@murgatroid99 This is true.

Alright, I can't take this shit anymore.

@Ktash Great, you've made your point, stop repeating yourself.

6:16 AM
There are the kinds that ask for an unbounded list, like "What is every game that ever featured a space ship"

user15026
@Fluttershy Want some donut holes?

I'm not asking for an unbounded list though
It's just 42 questions

and the kind that asks for a bounded list, like "Where is every particular secret in this particular game"

not 42 question what am I even ssaying
@murgatroid99 And I'm assuming Arqade dislikes both of them?

@Retrosaur I don't think your question is bad because it asks for an unbounded list. I think it's bad because you are asking other people to take 42 pictures that you will use with your game save modification thing
@Retrosaur only the first, really

6:19 AM
@Retrosaur What that question is asking for is a bound list. A list with an end. What you're asking for is an unbound list. The potential gun combinations in Borderlands 2 are damn near limitless. There are entirely too many scope types to be discussed in a question. You can't just set your own scope on a question like the one you're asking. "Give me some, but not all, of the varieties?" That doesn't work well for this site.

user15026
@Fluttershy THIS THIS THIS THIS

@murgatroid99 Can you clarify the difference with unbounded and bounded? Is unbounded like too broad and bounded somewhat broad?
Wait, now I'm super confused

As for why it's allowed at Bicycles.SE, or any other site on the network is simple: Each site has their own rules. You can't go to Bicycles.SE and ask a question about Matt Hoffman's Pro BMX. Why? Because they don't handle video game bikes on their site. But they'll allow lists of bike parts. We do not allow lists of bike parts, but you can ask about bicycling video games here. See how this works?

user15026
@Retrosaur Bound. Finite. Has an end.

Murgatroid says it's unbound

6:20 AM
@Retrosaur I've voted to close your question. I recommend you post a meta discussion on it if you disagree with us. We are a community and will vote and act accordingly. There you can post your view, others can post theirs, and we can discuss the problem. I still say that the question, in my opinion, is not likely to survive, but that is my opinion

and Tristan says it's bound

user15026
@Ktash This.

I'm still super confused now.

@Retrosaur I did not say that

> What you're asking for is an unbound list.

6:20 AM
I don't think your question is bad because it asks for an unbounded list.
3 mins ago, by murgatroid99
@Retrosaur I don't think your question is bad because it asks for an unbounded list. I think it's bad because you are asking other people to take 42 pictures that you will use with your game save modification thing

@Retrosaur OK, fine, poor word choice. I don't think that's what your question is. I think it's bad for other reasons

Well, at least how I read it, it sounded like you said my ques

@Retrosaur Right. He's saying you're asking for an unbound list. But that's not why it's bad.
Or we're all just misinterpreting ALL the things.

user15026
@Retrosaur It is just a terrible question, and the list is one of the reasons

Wait I'm completely confused now

6:22 AM
OK, I actually have no idea what kind of list you are asking for because I don't know enough about BL2

@Retrosaur Post on meta and we can discuss the issue and vote there.

Welp, alright.

But I do think that no matter what kind of list you are asking for, asking for a bunch of pictures is not a good question

Should I just ask for a list of what they generally look like then
Or just a text-based answer at least

user15026
@Retrosaur That doesn't really help, then you are asking for basically text descrips of the pics

user15026
6:23 AM
Which si the same problem

user15026
Seriously, an MSO post? meta.Arqade exists for a reason!

user15026
headdesk

@AshleyNunn Flagged it for migration over to our meta. As that's where we should have the discussion

user15026
@Ktash I flagged it as OT

I just flagged with a note to the mods

user15026
6:29 AM
@Ktash That was likely a better plan

@Ktash That's what I did! <_<

user15026
You are all smarter than me :P

user15026
Alright. Now that this kerfuffle is quiet, I am going to curl up with some Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland and hopefully sleep in a bit :)

Gah, mods, ignore my most recent flag

user15026
@Ktash Did you make a booboo? :P

6:35 AM
Alas, I flagged too soon
Also, if someone has said powers, this question looks like it might need community protection. A lot of low rep users posting the same answer over and over

user15026
@Ktash Yikes.

user15026
Okay. Going to bed. For serious :P

@AshleyNunn G'night!

user15026
@Ktash Good night :)

6:54 AM
@murgatroid99 Not really practical, but definitely interesting and related to gaming. As for verification, you look at the release date of the game- lol.

@Decency You can verify that it happened. You can't verify that a game was the first without checking all previous multiplayer games

@murgatroid99 If this were a mathematical proof, I'd agree with you, but comprehensive rigor and Q&A tend not to go together very well.

@Decency It would still be difficult to verify

@murgatroid99 The person who posts the earliest game with a team matchmaking system is correct. /end

Q: Are "what was the first..." questions on topic?

serenityIn another question, someone pointed out that the "first game of X" class of questions, and those that are similar, have certain faults and should get some additional analysis. What should be done with them? Examples: Which FPS came up with the hologram effect first? What was the first ever com...

7:02 AM
If someone posts an earlier game, they become correct.!
@murgatroid99 That doesn't help your case, lol. It's neither subjective nor uninteresting.

@Decency I was mainly referring to the first answer, which says "No, they are off topic"

@murgatroid99 ...I don't see that answer?

@Decency bwarner's
2
A: Are "what was the first..." questions on topic?

bwarnerThe purpose of questions such as these seem to be exploring the history of games. This can be an interesting topic, but I don't think it makes for good Q&A. Game mechanics evolve. You will find earlier games with certain aspects of other games, but there will almost always be some variatio...

@murgatroid99 That's the second answer for me, and his entire argument doesn't apply to the game in question: it's not even remotely subjective. Either it uses a team matchmaking system or it doesn't.
the question in question*

Q: Is this a list question?

RetrosaurA somewhat continuation of this question and this argument we had on The Bridge. I've been trying to ask this question on Gaming.SE. Apparently though, everyone else on Arqade seems to disagree with me. I've read the first linked question, most notably this quote: List questions are general...

7:07 AM
@Decency I still agree with him though that such questions are in general not good Q&A
And I still the the verifiability issue is an actual problem

Hi guys! new here :)

The fact that one answer is not quite as wrong as another does not make it actually correct
@LittleChild Hi

Here is my off-topic question if you could help. gaming.stackexchange.com/questions/106314/…
A top-down strategy games with present-day weapons.

Geez, it's been a while.
I haven't played any top-down strategy games in forever.

I am addicted to them :)

7:10 AM
they're very good, generally

@LittleChild That's a fine question for this chat, but you might have more luck at a different time of day. Right now a lot of people are inactive because it's currently late night in the western hemisphere

I was thinking of Codename Panzers: Coldwar
oh sure, I will try later :)

@Mana I read Homestuck and now I know what your avatar is

Any1 here plays League of Legends ?

@LittleChild quite a number of peeps, if I recall correctly. They're usually on during the (EST) day

7:12 AM
damn but you guys must be playing on the American servers
I play on Garena

@murgatroid99 nice!

Anyways, thanks for the help :)

@LittleChild yeah, sorry we can't help more. I'm super sleepy.

Garena is the SEA server, isn't it?

Take care!

7:13 AM
@Mana And by read I mean that I got caught up about 15 minutes ago

Hmmm, he's gone

@murgatroid99 oh, cool!

1 hour later…
8:27 AM
@LittleChild I assume by "strategy game" you don't mean a game which is actually about strategy, but a tactical one? Else there's always Hearts of Iron series ...

Morning yall.

I'd have suggested Advanced Strategic Command, but that has some "futuristic" weapons - and no real-world ones.

Q: Where is the Don't Starve save file located on Linux?

General StubbsI know that the save file is located in the Appdata folder for windows, where is it located in Ubuntu 12.04? I am using Google Chrome for both operating systems. I wish to know this because I want to move my save from Windows to Ubuntu.

Awwwww someone sent me a <3 on here

<3

@Ladineko <3

:D

9:04 AM
hehe
so PS4 announcement.... what a pile of pfffft.

Hehe well it has one advantage
You dont need those bloody discs anymore
and you can play the game even before its downloaded.

hmmm
/me didn't see that bit.
but what about the 50% of the world with crappy internets?
Sony seem to have forgotton that vital thing, 90% of the world isn't in japan and doesn't have japan's net speeds.

I do :P
True gamers have that top priority

9:22 AM
I wish it would be so easy. Most people here (Germany) are seemingly content with DSL/VDSL speeds, so less than 1% of homes are connected via glass fibre (compare that to ... say, Latvia, which has 100%). The network providers instead concentrate on marketing LTE connections, which have atrocious ping times and are all limited to data volumes you can reach within less than an hour.

@MartinSojka Nod :(

If you know you have a crappy internet then done play :P

They are starting streaming downloads, just like Blizzard does with WoW.
Download a core chunk of it, and the rest downloads as you play.

snow

9:37 AM
cake

nom

doze

@FAE I wasn't. I suppose the computer woke itself up for no apparent reason, then went back to sleep.

Oh the irony of this song:

9:52 AM
@kalina :(

@fredley sup

@kalina Certainly not cake

aww
I wish there was a way to uncast a vote
I VTC'd something that I have subsequently decided I don't want to put my name on

@kalina What kind of vote?

but oh well

9:53 AM
Oh. Talk to @AbuserInChief @badp

I have long known that the first several hours of the day are a bad time for me

no can do

@badp yeah I know you can't undo it

@kalina Best sleep through them, in mind if not in body

hmmm
pci compliance, don't ever do it if you have teh choice.

9:54 AM
@fredley that's the problem, I am still asleep
asleep yet managed to shower, get dressed, walk to work

@djsmiley2k Anything involving the word compliance is purgatorial in my experience

@fredley yes.

@kalina Don't do complicated things, like voting, when asleep

meh
its not complicated
my conscience isn't loud enough at this time of day
my foreground thought process overrules everything

@fredley yes, I'm at work yet my mind is asleep

9:58 AM
First hour of day: chat/emails/not actual work.
I aim for 2 hours of proper work in the morning, 2 in the afternoon. Works well when it does.
