Why is nobody commenting on my nomination? I feel unloved :(

I've never even seen Ullallulloo around really before :o

A couple people are coming out of the woodwork for nominations.

@ArdaXi What do you mean "nobody commenting"
29 mins ago, by Mana
@Arda YOU'RE GOING TO MAKE A TERRIBLE MOD

I mean posting a comment on my nomination.

Are Juan and Oak going to run? :o They've been great mods.

10:16 PM
I haven't seen Juan in quite a while...

I need more people to follow me on Quora so I can assign them silly topics

I just signed up for Quora half an hour or so ago actually
Santi Badp gave you the following topic: Hello Kitty. 3:53pm
Oh, thanks.

What is Quora?

The latest take on Q&A
it's more web 2.0 and more mistery meat
oh, and general

A web site that you can't even browse without either getting deep-linked in from elsewhere or creating an account, which is a practice that pisses me off to no end.

10:23 PM
Yeah I just found it and lost interest when the only option was to log in or register.

By the way
if you don't want your email address associated with your real name and surname to the internet at large
don't sign up with your real name and surname

I use my real name on SO anyway (just not gaming) so I don't really care

Good tip. Or don't sign up.

Isn't that a general practice for everywhere on the internet?

literally, all you have to do to get name and surname for any user is put their email in the login field
there's probably a nice and clean JSON api behind the scenes automating this
sending real sounding phishing never sounded so easy!

10:26 PM
We really need more people who want to be moderators...

I changed my mind about internet anonymity a couple of years ago. It's worth more to me to control what comes up first when you google my name than it is to be secretive and have googlers easily find whatever secretish thing slipped through the cracks.

Eh, I don't see it as anonymity. I am me, no matter my name. But my legal name wields a certain kind of power that I don't really need people to deal with outside of scenarios where people need to deal with my legal name.

Or in real terms, I'd rather the first thing someone see when they search for my name be my stackoverflow and linkedin profiles instead of some archived article from when I was in high school or something.

Last I checked, it was truckers. Let's see what I find this time...

Some day, when we least expect it, @GraceNote will cover a small hiss with a note and asplode.

On a global scale, I have a fairly common given name and a decently common last name. So until any sort of event under which I become famous, electronic or otherwise, I don't see much chance of finding myself in the first few pages of Google.

Unfortunately my name is pretty uncommon.

10:32 PM
Hm... adding my middle initial changes things. I have somehow become associated with foie gras.
Amusing. If I put just my middle initial, I can actually find a result that does relate to me. But if I put my full middle name, there's nothing.

My name is incredibly uncommon, so I'm going to end up as me no matter what.

I am actually extremely googleable, though thankfully my old lawsuits against the city of new york have slipped off of page 1.

Speaking of you, @ArdaXi, did you catch that easter egg note or did the stealth edit miss its mark?

@GraceNote I did miss it, but I see it now.

That's good.

Oak
10:41 PM
But I guess that if I had a 100k account on SO, I'd change it to use my real name

By the time you hit 100k, wouldn't you be so e-famous that it'd be simpler to just tell people "Yeah, that tree over there? So much reputation? That's me. Bask in my awesome."?

Oak
Oh wow I just checked and searching my real name (unquoted), all 7 first matches are me
:)

That's part of the reason I feel better to stick with a name. In community, people will still know you by that name a lot better than if I were to spontaneously change to my real name

once you start really watching TASes, playing games themselves becomes kind of depressing
...at least, rhythm games like Audiosurf do.

I went with my real name on account of my being too lazy to be creative and think up something else.

10:44 PM
Is there a TAS of Audiosurf?

How do you TAS a rhythm game? It's a fixed time length!

@TimStone Tom Boulder. (Again)
@GraceNote The same way TASes handle autoscrolling sections

@StrixVaria I don't mind people who make and watch TAS, but I just can't find myself entertained by it.

Indeed

10:46 PM
Well, I've explained my main reason for watching TASes, experiencing somewhat old games I practically will never be able to play
...

I love the ones that show real creativity and intricacy, like the one where 4 Mega Man games are played with the same controller inputs

...legally.

Why not... watch actual speedruns?

I like TAS runs more than regular speed runs. Regular speed runs depress me because I'll never be that good. TAS runs are cool because they show me the theoretical limits of the game.
But I don't have to be jealous of the TAS, because it's cheating :D

If there's one genre that just can't be TASed, that's FPSes.

10:48 PM
Full disclosure... I do speedrun. Not competitively so, but I do enjoy the challenge.

Most of the FPS TASes are walking into walls diagonally, following by watching enemies getting disintegrated for a few frames with perfect aim

I started trying to speedrun Oblivion a while ago, then saw someone else speedrun it while I was trying to plan my route and gave up on the whole thing.
I thought I was doing well...

I find it more impressive to see what insane things people can truly pull off. It may occasionally phase me, but honestly I got to see a good show of gameplay in the process. That's what I personally like.

@StrixVaria That's why I don't competitively do it. I enjoy being extremely skilled in games, and I do very, very well. But it's a hassle to try and keep on top of everyone world-wide, and there are people who are just too devoted to it.

they use slow motion and emulators and just frame input

@ThomasMcDonald Do you like DOTA (or any of it's many clones)?

@GraceNote I see. (TASes require input recording for independent verification, that is, a text file saying what button did you press on what frame)
