@DucatiKiller, @BobCross, @Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 congrats guys!

Thanks

1:40 AM
anyone around
?

@JasonC Thanks!

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 a person
!!!

@William I'm just on for a minute. What can I do for you?

So I want to install a keyless keypad entry on my car is that an acceptable question for the site?
I would guess no

I think so.
Be prepared to post the type of vehicle you want to install it on and what research you've done already. BE specific about what you want to do.
I don't know if you'll get a good response, but it should be on topic.
Fair enough?

1:45 AM
Thank u!

Look forward to seeing what you want to do :o) have a good evening ... headed to bed. Been a long day.

The best way to describe the structure is to think of it as the basement of an apartment building. Each apartment has a parking spot. The owner of my parking spot built a garage box on it and rents it out.
The lighting outside of the box (in the underground corridor let's say) is on a 30s timer, and is either switch-activated or activated when the underground garage door opens. Inside my box there is no electricity, and no lighting. The only sources of light are this timed outside light or the daylight coming in from the underground garage door if I lock it open.
Now the ventilation does exist, although I doubt it can handle me running a generator down there.

GM All.

10:56 AM
@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 General Motors all?

11:16 AM
A 2 amp spark vs. a 7 amp spark. I think we can definately infer something about the power of a spark from it's appearance.
It's from this article on ignition coil dwell time calibration: dtec.net.au/Ignition%20Coil%20Dwell%20Calibration.htm

11:35 AM
@RobertS.Barnes The "S" in your name is for "sparky" ? :)

@Myself - I think you nailed it.
@RobertS.Barnes - That's a huge difference! I wonder if it was done under cylinder pressure. As pressure increases, so does the spark. I don't know the physics of it, but I know the pressure interferes with how the spark does its thing.
Great pics, though.

A: A/C problem kicking on and off

com2ghzLike JPhi1618 mentioned, check if it's cold outside. Your A/C won't work below certain temperatures. The A/C system contains refrigerant which will be 'exhausted'(correct me pls) or leaked out. When there is not enough pressure, the A/C keeps turning on/off in the beginning. After some time it w...

There are several things wrong with this answer as I can see it. Plus comments are not leading in the right direction. Is there anyway to guide this a little better? I feel like I'm stepping on his toes.
A/C does work in cold temps, I see it every year when I turn the defrost on in my vehicle (I guess not all vehicles do this, but most here in the States do).
I'm not an HVAC expert, so hoping someone could jump in on it, if they felt so inclined.

I will stay away as far as possible from AC systems since I have not the slightest clue about them
How are things guys?

@Myself things have become chilly. It's finally autumn around here.
I'm almost ready to switch tires.

11:55 AM
@BobCross Same here. I already activated the heating and putted in the winter bedding. Also the tires will get changed (hopefully) this weekend

12:15 PM
I love my summer wheels, though. Sigh. Angst.

12:38 PM
@anonymous2 Sssshhh, you've cracked the code and let everyone know.

12:57 PM
@Simon Lol. Not too tricky...

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 I'll take a stab at writing something up.

1:14 PM
Let's see. How shall I spend my morning? Writing test code for a branch that probably won't live long or writing a technical summary of a research project that didn't go quite as well as I'd hoped. Hm. Choices!
Dear Stackexchange, this whole modding thing would be easier if I had a bigger, newer phone. Just hinting....

Iphone 7?
@BobCross, you didn't say anything about the condition...
Hi, @akadian!

1:35 PM
@anonymous2 a broke phone is not better than a small phone. You rolled a critical miss!

2:15 PM
Has anyone seen all six spark plugs on one side of a V6 engine? That doesn't even seem possible but if its not then what are the 6 things to the left of the oil filler cap here:
Its a ford taurus 2006
To the left of the #5 in the picture on the manual(see link)

2:31 PM
@NULL That are not the spark plugs but the ignition coil assembly

Dammit I need to buy tools.

@JoErNanO When buying hand tools buy good quality. You will stick with them for the rest of your life (there are exceptions)

@JoErNanO preach it, brother

@JoErNanO Btw. I like Facom tools

@Myself I'm a Beta tools extremist

2:46 PM
@JoErNanO Good stuff

3:00 PM
@JoErNanO That makes sense. I might would just use a headlamp like this
and one of these lights they are super bright.

I am away. See you all

@DucatiKiller and @Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 congratulations. @BobCross sorry bud, you're still stuck with it. :)
I didn't even realize it until I realized I wasn't getting the little blue notification box anymore....lol
lemme go flag a bunch of posts to give you guys something to do. hehe

@MoveMoreCommentsLinkToTop That's what I use right now. Both headlamp and LED bar.
Oh yes, and tactile feedback.

@JoErNanO Just another thought, what about setting the generator right outside the garage, since it's just one stall. Just be sure to get a quite one

@MoveMoreCommentsLinkToTop - Thanks, Larry. I appreciate all the time and effort you've given to the site over the years.

3:11 PM
@JoErNanO also are you using on like I linked to or one with a lot of individual LED's. The on I linked to is just one continuous bar of LED.
@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 Thanks

hi @anonymous2

@MoveMoreCommentsLinkToTop - I have no clue when the next time I'm headed to NC. I'm still working on Lee's Impreza swap. When I get that done, It'll be bringing it down there and towing your old Camaro back up.
I might get time to work on the Impreza this weekend. The wife and daughter will be at VA Beach for a band competition.

^ if you click on that image you can see the one long continuous LED. It's actually a bunch of surface mount LED butted up against each other to look like one LED.
@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 Cool lemme know when you're down here

@MoveMoreCommentsLinkToTop you realize that this is all your fault, right? Scowl scowl! ;-)

3:23 PM
@BobCross Yep, that's what friends are for...hehe. The new guys will soon figure out it's not nearly as sexy as they thought it was...

@MoveMoreCommentsLinkToTop - I'll try to give you more lead time ... but then again, it will probably be another short trip since I'll be renting the U-Haul car trailer again.
@MoveMoreCommentsLinkToTop - I never assumed it was sexy ... you were involved.
:-)

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 I miss the days of my buddy having a car trailer I could use anytime I wanted. I even tried to buy it from him, and he was like no, why buy it. You can use it anytime you need it. about a year later he sold it :(
@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 OMG LMAO

@MoveMoreCommentsLinkToTop It's a small one with a lot of individual LED's. Does it make a difference? I could run a generator on the outside ramp provided it doesn't block traffic. That would definitely work although probably not the most discreet solution. :)
I don't want to seem like I am shooting down all proposals here. I am just actively trying to brainstorm and collect ideas pros and cons.

@JoErNanO I don't feel shut down at all, just brainstorming with you. If you do set the generator outside just get a quite one. I am assuming you only have one car correct? Also what's your budget for this?

3:43 PM
@MoveMoreCommentsLinkToTop I have only motorbikes. Do quiet generators exist? I'll have to look for them. Budget is a couple hundred Euros I guess.

4:02 PM
@MoveMoreCommentsLinkToTop - It's funny you mention this. We have a lady in our van pool. Myself and another guy continually tease her with Right Said Fred ... gives her an "earworm" all day long! It's awesome :o)

4:32 PM
@JoErNanO The Honda inverter/generator (Noise LevelP: 59 dB at rated load 53dB at 1/4 load) as been the standard for a long time, but they are expensive. There however some less expensive options, but even those are outside of you budget.
they simply say "Extremely quiet operation is comparable to the sound of a normal conversation according to the US Department of Health and Human Services"

@MoveMoreCommentsLinkToTop Oh damn that looks sexy.
2000W means you can run one power tool with it too.

A normal converstation would be 60 db. You can find more examples here
We have one of the Honda's on the fire department and it is indeed quiet.

FYI the Honda is 1377EUR this side of the pond O_O: amazon.fr/G%C3%A9n%C3%A9rateur-Honda-EU20i-portable-silencieux/…

@JoErNanO oh yeah you'll have to find one over there. But you should still be able to find a quite one. The Wen one above is a Yamaha knock off
Okay work time for me, ttyl

4:50 PM
@MoveMoreCommentsLinkToTop Ciao man. I'm going home.

Dammit automotive press: don't fuss about the slight increase in BRZ power if they also shortened the final drive ratio. Tell me about the result in performance! I super don't care about bench numbers. Grump Grump!

1 hour later…
5:59 PM
@Myself Like the distributor cap?

6:57 PM
@Myself nevermind of course yes

Hm. Maybe tonight is a good night to bottle beer. Because remember, when you bottle beer, there's always some left over. You don't want to waste beer. That's like a sin or something.

@NULL Hi!

@BobCross un-bottling beer is better

7:35 PM
@RoryAlsop you aren't reading me. When there's extra beer during bottling, you can go straight to the "yum!" step. It's like clicking the "I win!" button.

@BobCross ahh - yep, my bad. I didn't catch it that way
Thumbs up from me!

@anonymous2 parle-tu francais?
Or was it "parles-tu"?
I forget

@Zaid parlez-vous

@RoryAlsop wait, is this a bank? :)

7:50 PM
@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 Brain dump complete:

A: A/C kicking on and off, not putting out cold air

Lynn CrumblingThe compressor turning off immediately is usually a sign of a safety mechanism kicking in. A sensor is most likely causing the compressor to disengage. It's probably due to one of two conditions: An over-pressurized line. It would be dangerous to compress liquid where the system is already in a...

^ that answer and this answer represent most of my knowledge of A/C Systems:

A: Measuring A/C refrigerant I got 96 PSI, is 96 PSI bad?

Lynn CrumblingFor an A/C system to be functioning correctly, you need: In the cabin: something to exchange cold (an evaporator) something to move air over the evaporator (the fan) a working blend door that allows the user to select heat or cold In the engine compartment: something to exchange heat (a ra...

This answer overlaps with the heater:
7
A: How does the heater core work?

Lynn CrumblingThe heater core is part of continuous loop of engine coolant propelled via the water pump, flowing through caverns in the engine, through pipes that run through the firewall into the heater core, back out the firewall, and finally through the radiator. If the thermostat dictates it (due to a temp...

If anyone's looking to collect A/C and Heat answers into an FAQ of sorts, those 3 are worthwhile.

8:43 PM
@LynnCrumbling - Great answer. Thanks for dumping!

8:54 PM
@Zaid Vous aviez raison la deuxième fois. C'est bien "parles-tu le français."
And the answer is yes. :)
@RoryAlsop Yes, if you want to be markedly respectful.
Or if you're not sure how to conjugate for the singular person. :)
Actually, apart from on mech.SE, the majority of my mechanics talk is in French. I sometimes have to double guess myself on a given motor part's name in English. :)

I always thought vouz was the same as our thoo (respectful you)

Vous is the plural, tu is the singular.
But business men or other people in formal situations use the plural vous when speaking to a single person to mark respect.
It's a constant debate in more classy circles whether children should address their parents by "tu" or "vous".
"Tu" denotes familiarity, "Vous" denotes respect.

Bien
Comment dit on "practice" en francais?

@anonymous2 - Was just asking the question this answers. thanks!

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 Sure, lol!

9:04 PM
You suck, @Zaid ...
Okay, really I'm just jealous.
:o)

There's nothing to be jealous of. I barely remember my French :/

Like I was telling @anonymous2 yesterday, I took a quarter of French in High School my Senior year ... Yah, don't remember squat. Barely remember how to count to 10, lol!

I embarrassed myself recently
I said "j'ai etudié la française dans ma école" to a French colleague. He was kind enough to point out the mistake :)

@Zaid pratiquer pour un verbe, pratique pour un nom.

And this is an English speaking chat room, right? ;-)
Time to eat. I'll be back in a bit, but will probably be working on the Impreza this evening if I can muster the courage.

9:14 PM
@anonymous2 Bien. Je voudrais pratique ma français avec les Francophones. Est-ce que il y a un chatroom pour cette raison?
@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 we'll let the chatroom owner decide that. Hey, wait..

@Zaid - ;-)

10:16 PM
@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 It's code...they're 'Code Talkers'

@DucatiKiller - Yah ... they're something alright ... ;-)

It's going to get old pasting the conversation into Google Translate so they don't slip anything by us.
:-)

I tell yah!
I know they're scheming behind our backs though ... you just can never tell about those two.

Yup, through my translations they are saying stuff like, "Hey, there's a bunch of cookies." and then the other one says. "Be quiet, I'm going to steal them all. I'll split them with you."
It's all a nefarious plot
Time to make some donuts. Catch you guys later.

Later bro
