If the starter isn't getting power and attempting turn the engine over you probably need to solve that problem first. Is the timing belt/chain due or overdue for service? If it's broke the sound when trying to start it will be very different than normal. Does your engine have an EGR or variable valve timing? I have seen a Ford with VVT throw a cam position sensor code when the real probablem was with the VVT solenoid (which started throwing a code later). Think the actually problem was crud introduced into the engine from a plug change (excessive anti-seize on the threads). —
