12:39 AM
@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 event cancelled for the evening. Beer thirty!
@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 I've built a lot of GSXR engines and their power loss % decreased considerably.

@DucatiKiller - I had this argument with someone a while ago and lost it.
lost the argument, that is
Power train losses will remain constant.
as in % wise constant.
Also, how are you measuring power loss?

I was in school and we had an engine stand dyno and a rear wheel dyno
we did runs stock for both
upgraded engine
power wise, not reliability, and then did two runs.
Well. We did a crap load of runs over and over but with both types of dyno

Okay. Fair enough.

we were kids with toys available

Oh and how you used your toys I'm sure.

12:51 AM
Oh for sure, I'm surprised we didn't wear out the gear and blow up the motor.

On to a different subject ... I'm wondering if amphibient is losing the oil through the PCV/breather.
I'm wondering if he had a catch can if he'd see a bunch of it end up there.

definitely a possibility
then there would be some reason it's doing that, is my first thought
perhaps the root cause is, did a bad hone job, rings are crapped out.

Oh I agree. It would show up on the spark plugs as well.

yeah

I thought he had only rebuilt the top end of his engine.

12:54 AM
the assumption that it would be a head gasket takes you down a flawed thought path

and a leakdown test is not going to show him anything with oil

that's niftier thinking
yup

Hey guys how's it going?

good eye dude

12:55 AM
@JonathanMusso wtf? Where have you been. did you fill out the form?
:-)

Yah, slacker!

WTF R U talking about?

Give me a second ... I have to go award some points.

I'm welcoming you with enthusiasm and intentional confusion

12:55 AM
cuz that's how I roll

I just finishing pushing in the '35 into the shop, man...gonna have some interesting pics for you guys...it's a hunk of shit with all the rust lol.
Gonna have to remanufacture everything :)

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 I think you have the right thread going with the pcv idea
@JonathanMusso hell yes
pics

YES! Pics or it never happened

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 LMAO

@DucatiKiller you will regret asking for them lol

12:57 AM
nah! I live vicariously through you

might have a teaser...one sec

have you ever taken the body off this frame? Or it all good and crusty and crappy?

AWESOME, we goaded him into pictures!! :D

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 You did! I just trailed along, "yeah, what HE said!"

12:59 AM
You get the credit for pulling the pics out of him

Nah, team effort
:D
:o)

Indeed
Now I'm annoyed because it's taking so long
c'mon @JonathanMusso chop chop with the photos!

doesn't look THAT bad but wait for it..

1:01 AM
AWESOME!

Uh ... what floorboard?

It's gnarly!
how do you push that thing?

@JonathanMusso - Have you watched the Project Binky videos on YouTube?

Holy crap you have your work cut out for you.

1:02 AM
it's fantastic. I have a HUGE grin on my mug right now.

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 hey bro, it's easier to chop and channel like this ;)

Oh, no doubt.

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 not yet! I have to, though. I just discovered "Vegas Rat Rods" on Discovery, been hooked lol
@DucatiKiller Tow with truck and push with plow, luckily enough

You may want to watch them before you start attacking this job.

Dude.....you will be such a proud parent.

1:03 AM
I got this all planned out

While not the same body, the attack is going to be quite the same. I mean, you are the body master, no doubt, but those guys are doing awesome fab work on the thing.

2nd frame which is mint, I will cut everything off, and build my own sub structure and floor
going to channel the height of the frame

I am not master, just a noob with ambition, and maybe more crazy than anything lol

What you showed me looks more like a template than a work in progress.

1:05 AM
I will start cutting it all a part soon
Just wait till you see that shit, when the roof is gone, oh em gee

Respect to you for going for it man. For real.
Crazy is good.
What are you going to keep?
@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 He's crazy. This is awesome. I love it.

Thanks man , lol
Well, I have a potential buyer from Vegas for this one. So I will see how that goes

I agree with Ducati ... I'm looking forward to seeing your mad skills at work and what you're going to do with it. Like he said, I too have to live vicariously!

In the sixteenth century a painter would call that guy 'a sponsor'

1:08 AM
hahaha

@JonathanMusso A put a link up there to the youtube series @Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 recomended.

@DucatiKiller Ah my bad for not responding. Yes I got it bookmarked, looks great

no worries

Oh, it's more than great. Those guys are awesome.

I've seen a couple of them. I wanted to actually watch all of them but....that whole time problem keeps getting in the way

1:10 AM
The main reason I'm suggesting it is because I don't think there is much left of the car they started with because I think it was in much the same shape as what you are looking at.

But after identifying the parts on this car, looks to be rodder's from the '50s who were building it, or at least in that style. The rear and front-end is post war setups, with the steering column shifted a few inches and some interesting v8 motor mounts.

I want to see that. I need to learn more about dealing with rusty stuff and making it better.

Good news is, a modern style engine will not rip the gears in the rear end, unlike the stock '35

@DucatiKiller only way is to remove it and put new metal in

1:11 AM
what will you keep? body only?

pretty much, if you see the doors, I will have to cut it about 6" above the bottom hinge
and start the replacement panels there, same with the quarters
first thing to do is cut the rear fenders off, then the 3 spots where the body is attached to the frame, then lift it off

Do a daily video diary and explain what your doing. Then when it's done, trickle your episodes onto a youtube and get a bunch of hits
I"m planning your future. So don't say anything.

Then, you'll get underground notoriety and perhaps wealthy people will email you and ask you, how much for me?
Then.....<insert awesome success story here>
That's my plan for you. soooo, chop chop
You can talk now

haha manager and all

1:15 AM
lol, but for free.

nothing comes for free, immediately you turn into Don King
rofl

LMAO...
...only red m&m's in the bowl for Jonathan...and he likes cats, so have some kittens in the dressing room.....

LOL
poor Mike

I do really think you should do a video diary
Mike?
@BobCross Hey

Mike Tyson?

1:18 AM
I assumed you were mocking Mike Tyson lol
Oh wow, 12 episodes of this Binky

Well guys, I'm going to go see if I can knock an article out. Not going to have time to do it tomorrow.

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 Have a good one buddy!

Thank mano. You do some great and wonderous stuff. Looking forward to the day I can say, "Yah, I knew Jonathan back when ..."

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 later buddy

Thanks :o) Have a great evening now you don't have to make donuts.

1:20 AM
@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 ROFL. Appreciate it. Cheers man.

@JonathanMusso so you have a brand new frame? do I have that right?

@DucatiKiller pre war new but it's in excellent shape compared to what you saw in the above pics lol

Nice

basically can take the front/rear end and just bolt onto it, away you go, whatever mods need to be done can be done, no obstructions

sounds like you have a great foundation to build on
How long to get it driving down a road

1:27 AM
that I have been thinking about, few hours a week I would like to see it drivable in August without paint
lol I feel this guys pain, so much rust in this mini

That sounds like dedication. Respect.

1:41 AM
Hey
In and out for the evening.

@DucatiKiller Ty brother. We will see if I pull that off. Anyways I am off. Nice chatting and have a good one!
@BobCross Later, enjoy your evening!

1 hour later…
3:47 AM
@DucatiKiller, I'm ok. Had an interview today, and afk all day.
I'll be on tomorrow. Changes are coming.

4:15 AM
@JPhi1618 Right on. Sounds like umami.

Think this answer deserves more than my measly upvote.

4 hours later…
11:24 AM
@DucatiKiller I have news on the clutch.

@BobCross - Can you please remove the tag from the April Challenge, I would appreciate it.

11:55 AM
@All - Happy Cinco de Mayo!

1 hour later…
1:14 PM
@JoErNanO I didn't want to answer it, but I made a comment about it in here.
I was saying, it made sense - not a bad question, but I don't have any real knowledge.

1:43 PM
@BobCross, @Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2, @JonEricson, how do all these sites get designs and we don't? I just noticed that puzzling.stackexchange.com/questions has a non-beta design, and I know I've seen several others make the switch (like ELL I think?).

2:12 PM
Done

2:42 PM
@JPhi1618 - We have to be out of Beta (Graduated) first.

So those other sites are just poping out of beta?

Puzzling.SE is not in Beta ... I haven't looked at it before to tell you whether it is newly out of Beta.

Hmm, ok. Other than having a design, how do you know if a site is beta? Look on Area 51?

To answer your unasked question though, the progression is once the criteria has been met, the site does a design independent graduation which means we have an election for mods, but we won't get the design yet. Then, when Stack Overflow design team has the time, they will work on the design (along with members). Once the design is in place, then all of the permissions change (meaning you have to have the higher points to access the permission).
If you look to the right of our name on the main page, you'll see it says "beta" in light blue.

Ok, searching some of the Meta sites, I see that puzzling just graduated and got their design almost immediately. Also, it looks like Worldbuilding graduated in November but still doesn't have a deisng.

2:53 PM
Worldbuilding has been working on their design, though.

Q: Worldbuilding Site Design Updates: March 15

Kurtis BeaversThank you for all of your feedback and patience while we made design updates. Below are a list of updates and planned updates. Logo Based on the community's discussion, we've made some adjustments to the logo: we added a halo, saturated the colors a bit more, and made the world a bit larger...

Q: Puzzling Design Pitch - Congratulations, you're graduating!

StéphaneI'm Stéphane, a senior product designer at Stack Exchange. First, I wanted to announce that this site is now starting the process of moving out of beta to become a fully-graduated site! Congratulations! Graduation and Your Site Design Graduation comes with a few perks, which should come out...

I think the Puzzling.SE design elements were a lot easier than what Worldbuilding.SE are, though.
@JPhi1618 - The design thread for Puzzling.SE was posted on 30 March, so I'd suggest it didn't just happen after they graduated.

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2, so getting a new job. I'm going to be scarce around here.

Well, that's exciting and scary all at the same time.

Won't be able to get online at work anymore so it will be only a few minutes here and there when I can.

Your interview went really well, then?
Can you say what you'll be doing?

Yep, they made me an offer on the spot, and I accepted via email once I talked to my wife.
Oh, yea, I'm going to be working on an email encryption platform.

3:05 PM
@JPhi1618 Now that was a good choice. Always keep the wife informed and in the decision process.

I can't get online as much because they do pair programming, so I will always be working with someone else.

regarding timelines, Music graduated in September, our site design went live in March and first swag is going out next month

@RoryAlsop, Swag?

@RoryAlsop - Yup, it all takes time.
@JPhi1618 Silly Wild Arse Gift

it used to be you got site design as soon as you graduated, but now it's a rolling team of designers, so the design comes along as soon as it can
Stuff We All Get
although it's not all

3:06 PM
I like my acronym better :o)

yup - me too

I know what swag means :). What do you get?

And I just made it up, lol!
@JPhi1618 - Look in the Worldbuilding Meta post I put up

Q: Music Stack Exchange - Top User Swag!

animusonWe want to congratulate and thank everyone that helped this site and community grow healthily into what they are today! If you can find your name among the top 72 users in the first two pages here, we have a surprise for you! We want to send you a token of our appreciation for being among the mo...

3:07 PM
At the bottom there is a T-Shirt and note pad ... they will be giving some of that away for certain reasons.

Oh, cool.

I think our list of possibles was good though:
10
Q: What Swag should Music.SE have?

Dr MayhemOur site design is being finalised, as described here but there is a follow on question around swag. As @Hynes pointed out, T-shirts and stickers are standard swag, but a third can be suggested by the community, so why not get your thinking caps on and pop some ideas. (disclaimer, as a guitari...

I see you "Dr. Mayhem"
Love it.

:-) my stage name

Yes, yes, yes ... I'm well versed in your stage name. I've been stalking you from across the pond for the past year!
haha

3:09 PM
hahahahahahaha
it's worth having a think on that for Mechanics.SE

Absolutely.

what would be a good swagitem for low cost

Were you a mod over there before graduation?

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 yep - pro-tem, then got elected in

@RoryAlsop - I think a complete Snap-On tool set would be good.
:o)

3:11 PM
@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 hehe, I doubt they'd spring for that!

@NickC - I KNOW they wouldn't, lol.

stickers, notepad, that sort of price range seems about right :-)

presumably we also need a logo too...

But if you don't throw it out there ...

bumper stickers seem likely

3:12 PM
Bumper stickers for sure.

the design team usually take elements and guidance from the community, but mostly they are just very good graphic design folks

I am a big fan of the vinyl stickers which can be put on the window (and easily removed).

13mm / half-inch spanner?

Or at least some "performance parts window sticker" types...

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 oh yeah - that's a good point

3:12 PM
@NickC 12mm is 1/2"
haha

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 agreed - especially if they are reusable

@NickC - Reusable or not ...

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 12.7 to be precise ;)

not
@NickC - :D

I've had one window sticker in three different cars

3:14 PM
That's be cool.
So, we could come up with some design considerations, anyway.

my subaru and empeg window stickers come with me across cars

though it didn't make the fourth, it lost it's 'cling'

a good logo for the site would be good to have in the window
@NickC think you can 'rejuvenate' them
sure I saw something on a forum somewhere

Gears and wrenches.

@RoryAlsop, MPEG, like the compression algorithm?

3:15 PM
@JPhi1618 it led to empeg, yes: empegbbs.com
single best car stereo in existence. Runs Debian Linux
plays wav, mp3, ogg, flac
can have SPDIF out, wifi, accelerometers, lyrics scrollers, pac man
I ended up buying 3

Oh, speaking of stickers, I saw this murdered out Charger on my way to lunch the other day. License plate: PYR8T, small sticker on the left of the trunk: "Pyrate Edition", look over to the right of the trunk... Modified emblem: "CHARRRRGER"...
I lol'ed

hahahahaha

@RoryAlsop Now that I see that link, it looks familiar.
@RoryAlsop, does the community get design input, or do the "professionals" handle it completely?

@JPhi1618 - For Mech.SE?
for instance?

Yes.

I've seen where they will take input from the community
I saw it on Worldbuilding, though I didn't see it much over on Movies.SE.

but we also had meta.music.stackexchange.com/q/92/104 years ago
so Joshua took ideas from that as well

Ok, interesting.

In all fairness to Movies.SE ... after I ran for Mod over there and lost, I kind of lost interest in the site. They were one of the last sites to graduate prior to the introduction of design independent graduation.

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2, why do you think you lost interest?

3:25 PM
@RoryAlsop - They marked the older post as the duplicate.
@JPhi1618 - It is my belief, as much as SE doesn't want the voting to be a popularity contest ... it is.

How could it not be?

I just wasn't as popular as the guys who won, which is understandable.
@JPhi1618 - I agree that it is. I did see over on SciFi.SE where one of the people who was very popular was doing stupid things after being elected. He was asked to step down. Now he has "Banned for Life" (or some such) as his avatar picture.

That's too bad. I agree that it should be whoever will do the best job, but it's going to come down to votes.

Now that same guy is over on Movies.SE doing the same thing, but not as a mod.
@JPhi1618 - If you are saying it's too bad I wasn't elected, it's not a big thing.
If you are saying it's too bad the guy over on SciFi.SE was doing what he was doing, it was a case where I saw it coming before it happened. I didn't think he'd be a good moderator, but "the popular vote" won in that case. I posted some stuff over on Meta.Movies.SE when he was speaking up about "stuff" which was the pot calling the kettle black ... I didn't like it and told him so.

And voting can be odd. There is a huge bias towards pro-tems, mostly as folks already know how they behave so are a 'safe bet'

3:31 PM
I think you'd win over here. Popularity or otherwise.

Very high rep members of the community also have a big advantage

Can you be a mod on more than one site?

@RoryAlsop Yes they do
@JPhi1618 absolutely

Although there are outliers - if you haven't got any of the moderation badges then that tends to look bad
@JPhi1618 erm...yup
:-)

That's why they have the 'mod score' on the voting page though

3:32 PM
@RoryAlsop - Yup.

@RoryAlsop, I thought you were a mod on multiples, but wasn't sure.

@NickC exactly

so you can see more than just rep

What is a Mod score?

@NickC - I often wonder how well that's looked at though, lol.

3:33 PM
@JPhi1618 It shows you how good a candidate is at doing mod type stuff

@JPhi1618 heh heh - I'm afraid so. Two elected, 3 pro-tem, and two asked in due to specific circumstances

so how many mod badges they have, etc

Oh, do mods have it, or is it just an election thing?

just in elections

Oh ok.

3:34 PM
score out of 40 iirc

When you get to the "question" phase, it will have it in there.
@NickC - I think that's right

@JPhi1618 sometimes you get folks who don't make a big song and dance but do a lot of the right thing, editing, cleaning up posts, sorting tags etc., and this shows up in the mod score
it also has a part of it related to rep, but above a certain amount that gets capped

Are there any sites we could point out going through elections right now?

I don't think so - Travel just had one
but that's finished

you can still see the info:

3:36 PM
the page is still there

I think I do remember seeing that on one election.
I think it was on SO, actually.

go to the More info about candidates section

So an example, the winning candidate on the travel one:
candidate score 40/40
reputation >= 20k
moderation badges: 8/8
editing badges: 6/6
participation badges: 6/6

This page is the link to see what elections are on:

Q: Elections Statistics page for Stack Exchange sites

Yi Jiang The Stack Exchange Elections Statistics Page is a simple single-page website that displays information on election candidates participating in the Stack Exchange 2011 Moderator Elections. It pulls together information normally found in each candidate's profile as well as their Meta and SE-w...

That png is what it looks like @JPhi1618

3:41 PM
@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2, awesome, thanks.

Hahahaha - I just saw Larry's new username. Not sure how I missed it before

Yeah yeah harrumph harrumph.

@BobCross, to your point, it is funny in the chat room, but a little odd to see it on answers and comments, etc.

Q: Recover formated ext4 partition with file structure

Nelson TeixeiraI'm trying to recover from an accidental format of ext4 1TB HDD. I tried virtually all linux tools (extundelete, ext3grep, ext4magic, testdisk, photorec, and others). Some that worked: testdisk, photorec and foremost. They recovered some 300000 files, but they didn't recover the hdd folder struct...

lol - it was only because I was looking at the users page to try and see how many had rep in various buckets (20k+, 10k+ etc) as that feeds in to the graduation process, and just saw he was a mod. realised at that point it couldn't be your actual sock puppet

3:48 PM
@RoryAlsop - You have any tools over in InfoSec which could do this?

He should have made a profile on a site he never uses and linked his chat profile to that.

@JPhi1618 exactly. It was funny at the time. Then I saw it in a comment and realized that it would seem super strange to someone who didn't know the joke.

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 EnCase or Helix - but really they are only useful once you have had the training. They are complex forensic tools

@RoryAlsop - I know there are tools ... I just happened to pop into the UNIX & Linux.SE and saw the question.
Woops, that sounded kinda crass ... sorry.

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 lol
I didn't take it as that

3:51 PM
thanks.
Trying to be better about how things sound when I write them.
Actually look and see what they sound like in my head, lol.

Ha, @RoryAlsop, I read this at the time without knowing how into music and parenting you were: parenting.stackexchange.com/a/22033/11940

So far, this site has been a pretty easy mod job. We haven't had a serious spam problem and not a lot of true crazy.

Great question for you.

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 I assume the Internet can make anything sound bad without context, so I deal with it that way

Very nice. I wish more people read my writing with that in mind ;-)
I still have four articles assigned to me to write ... I should be doing that.
ROFL

3:52 PM
@JPhi1618 well the parenting thing just happened :-)

@RoryAlsop they know what causes that now....

@RoryAlsop, oh really? Well congrats if I'm reading that right. When?
