In the early nighties, when cars were starting to get platinum spark plugs and distributorless ignition it was common for the first tune up to be recommended at 100,000 miles. Which the salesman translated to the buyer is that the car won't need anything done to it for 100,000 miles. We had several vehicles come in with locked up engines because the owners didn't think they needed an oil change untill 100k

We fixed them at no cost to the customer, they really thought they didn't need an oil change thanks to the salesman.
