@Loong Top voted question: How many species of aliens are there?
@Mithoron Yup, that's meta.SE.

@wythagoras Unfortunately, area51.stackexchange.com/proposals/92559/science-educators has been deleted. :-( Do you still have access to the proposed questions?

Q: The policy of excessively closing questions

MarkoNowadays I find more and more of my questions being closed and I don't understand why. I've got the impression that acquiring knowledge isn't the priority here anymore, but rather following some established policies and forms. I think that the homework question policies should be changed. I guess...

@Loong Unfortunately, I don't have access to it anymore. However, I restarted the proposal:

Welcome to The Periodic Table @wythagoras! Here are our chat guidelines and it's recommended that you read them. If you want to turn Mathjax on, follow the instructions in this answer. Happy chatting!

Hey @DEAD

Hey
@MAFIA36790 He's been here before. He's one of the main participants of TRE.

user116211
I'm surprised as my gravatar in area 51 has changed ;/

user116211
@DEAD ;P

12:40 PM
@MAFIA36790 Thank you, but indeed, what @DEAD said.

user116211
@wythagoras apology ;)

@MAFIA36790 Yes, that's a gravatar issue.

You couldn't know, that is like a year ago.

user116211
@DEAD I haven't gone there for two months; so I don't know at all :(

@MAFIA36790 It's not restricted to gravatar.

12:44 PM
Area 51 is weird, I've never had the blue avatar I have on all other SE sites, and I recently got a yellow avatar in my Area 51 flair and also on some other places, while my normal avatar on A51 is red. And I have a purple avatar on my network wide flair, weird.

Meanwhile, our search for better guidelines to permanently replace the existing HW policy is still going on; check this @DEAD, if you like:

Q: Replacing the homework policy 1b: what is our scope anyway?

David ZAbstract: Analyzing the data from the last replace-the-homework-policy question was inconclusive. So back to the drawing board, or really back to this question: what do we really mean when we vote to close questions as homework-like? As some/many/most people are aware, we are in the midst of a...

user116211
@wythagoras Area 51 doesn't provide the same gravatar you have in other SE sites.

@DEAD I was wondering similar thing. After this stuff with guy using my pic, I checked and I my network profile I have different pic...

Read the relevant meta.DYI post Marc has linked in his comment.
The issue doesn't seem to be from SE's side.

@DEAD which comment?

@Mithoron In the linked dupe.

Welcome to Chemistry.SE. This appears to be a [homework] question. You should edit your post to include your workings and how you think you would arrive at an answer, else the post might be closed. Once we have an idea of how you're attempting a question I'm sure someone will be able to point you in the right direction! — NotWoodward 6 mins ago
@NotN it seems you stretched the magical comment links too far.

2:12 PM
@wythagoras Thank you!

2:27 PM
@DEAD I could have sworn that was a magical link :( Are we able to make magical links?

I don't think so

Probably for the best.

It could only take a meta post, but I'm working on something big.

Something big. I am intrigued!
Re: Markos post?

Yah
An experiment

2:30 PM
Excellent :)

How do I add a small-font footnote?

@pentavalentcarbon <sub>

@pentavalentcarbon You can't really change the font size, other than for titles using #,##,###. Unless you fudge it using sub/superscript

It doesn't work in chat though.
No tags do.

I guess more emphasis on the "footnote" part of my question.

2:33 PM
I always do s.
We don't have a specialized command for that.
You can also do a --- to add a thin line.
Organizes the post well.

1: Don't take this one that seriously...
If you edit to view the source

That's the problem...I can't click the edit button.

Its perhaps not ideal, but it does the trick

But that answers my question.

@pentavalentcarbon You need 2k

@pentavalentcarbon Almost there!

Eh, not really. It's going to take a long time.

Theres 300 worth of bounty out there right now ;) that'd take you close

2:39 PM
I can't answer any of those questions.

3:13 PM
@wythagoras I found the old proposal in Google Cache: webcache.googleusercontent.com/…

@Loong Thank you! Aren't you interested in following the new proposal, by the way? If it doesn't reach the required five followers, it will be closed (again) in three days.

@wythagoras Yes, I follow the new proposal. Now I have to prepare my five questions.

I'll follow it too.

@wythagoras In the last proposal, you also asked "What other areas of chemistry can I combine best with the lessons about the nomenclature of organic compounds?". I like that question. However, I guess, you have already reached your question limit.

@Loong Yeah, I now decided to have a few questions on practical work instead. Feel free to use that question. Your question about units is also a good one.

3:24 PM
@wythagoras Yes, I think I will ask the question about old units again.

I'll ask the oversimplification question again

If we have too many good questions, we could try to find someone in chat who could ask them for us.

Yeah, that is also a good one. It was one of the few +10 questions we had at the old proposal.

@Loong Happy to help!

@NotWoodward Thank you! But maybe you have your own example questions?

3:51 PM
Oh, look what I found on meta

@DEAD So, you cannot wait for 1,3-feeds. ;-)

CC @Loong @Jan @Ortho @penta @pH13 @Simon @F'x @Hipp @John @Not @Mith @Maf
@Loong Are you complaining that you have a special, talented, handsome and awesome postman?

@DEAD No, but I could complain about that 1,3-feeds is always late.
@DEAD Did you adopt the idea from the recent Physics.SE VLQ experiment?

@Loong I didn't even fully read that post, but considering that the idea hit me only because there are some 'experiments' going on around the network, you could say that.

ok

@1,3-feeds You're slow, like a large molecule trapped in a crystal structure

@Loong Quite possibly. How do I add questions. Is it the 'create new discussion' link?

@NotWoodward No no, that goes to meta.

Nvm. Scrolled down and noticed the box.

Q: Complicated reaction mechanism

AyeshaThe reaction is this: The only idea I have thus far is if we have a chloride acid that can form an ester, then we might be able to find a suitable mechanism. This would require a chloride reagent.

The image doesn't load for me on mobile. Could someone edit that stupid title?
Also this

Q: Organic chemistry Reaction mechanism

Debittree ChoudhuryWhich one is more stable, alkyl carbocations or aryl carbocations and why?
