@pent FYI, v0.4rc1 of opan is out. (Just ORCA output, .xyz/.trj import & other utilities, nowhere near VPT2 yet.)
@Mart, you may be interested too, if you've started fiddling with ORCA yet.
Looks like @pH13's been away too long, sadly...

Things sure have changed around here.
I'm about to provide an answer for the first time in a few months, which is nice.

Q: Finding transition states in Gaussian – focus: Electrophilic Addition Reaction

DetlevCMFinding transition states in Gaussian – focus: Electrophilic Addition Reaction First of all, I aim for two things with this post – on the one hand to produce a manual for other people to use, but also to verify what I obtained via searching, asking a more experienced user as well as receiving a ...

Hey @TIPS, you here?

user116211
Well, I'm not getting why my browsers are working weirdly ;/

user116211

user116211
I don't know where that extra white bar came from. Also the grey background behind the logo is incomplete. Reloaded it, but nothing happened :(

user116211
And Opera is now in insane mood, damn ;\

@MAFIA36790 have you cleared the cache ?

user116211
2:20 PM
@Hippalectryon checked... but still no success ;_;

2:31 PM
It's not happening on my browser. What's your chrome version?
Do you have an adblock?

user116211
@orlandomarinella yep.

Which adblock?
Actually. Do you mind right-clicking on that white bar and hitting 'Inspect Element'?

user116211
@orlandomarinella AdBlock.

Right. On inspect element, you should see <div class="topbar">
Near the top, is. Does it highlight the entire thing, or just the black bar?

user116211
@orlandomarinella I did ctrl+shift+i and it says it is a padding

2:41 PM
Hm.
I have a '<noscript>&lt;div id="noscript-padding"&gt;&lt;/div&gt;</noscript>' where that is.
Does AdBlock have a block logger?

user116211
@orlandomarinella no.

The best guess I can take is it being AdBlock then. Can you try using uBlock Origin for a minute or two and try again?

user116211
@orlandomarinella Ah! maybe; I would check... but I'm seeing my Opera is working good now. Thanks.

No problem.

@MAFIA36790 I'm there.
@MAFIA36790 I usually saw this white bar when SE wanted to notify me that someone edited sooner than me, and then was left undecided for some reason.
@MAFIA36790 Oh, then SE hating Opera?

user116211
2:52 PM
Windows and Opera are evils.

user116211
@TIPS Yeh, I'm accustomed to this (it sucks when you are writing for over 10 min and fixing the mathjax, suddenly someone edited it earlier) but this is not the situation here ;/

Then should I install Opera on my OS and see what happens?
@MAFIA36790 Usually, if any SE page loaded in a weird way, I did a hard refresh and everything worked again.
You should throw that Opera away.

user116211
@TIPS Actually the white bar is occurring in Chrome; Opera sometimes gives a shit but it is okay now.

Oh, "gives a shit" means something else.
Something along the lines of "caring a bit".

I mean, theoretically, both should work fine.
They're running on Blink and V8, practically identical.

user116211
2:58 PM
Also, I've noticed, Opera consumes less data while opening a page; the same page takes more data when opened in Chrome.

user116211
For opening PSE, Opera took 75kb in total, while Chrome took 252kb. Any reason for this?

@MAFIA36790 do you have more extensions on chrome ?

Trackers.
Opening PSE only took 17.7 kb for me.

user116211
@Hippalectryon No. Just AdBlock.

Disabling uBlock bumped it up to 44.4kb for me.

3:06 PM
@MAFIA36790 40kb for me

user116211
Damn.

user116211
Okay lemme check in Firefox.

Wait, hold on.
When testing, click 'disable cache'.
That'll pull you a more accurate reading.

user116211
@orlandomarinella yes, taken care of it.

user116211
And the best result I got is with Firefox.

user116211
3:10 PM
491kb!!!

user116211
WTF ;(

user116211
Okay, i'm screwed.

There's a lot of data to pull, yeah.

user116211
Oh! Wait, why should I spare the evil IE?

user116211
@mith o/

3:11 PM
plzno
IE should go burn. :v

user116211
821kb >;((

user116211
Windows is evil ;((

I wouldn't know. I'm using... Ubuntu. :v

user116211
okay, seriously, what do you think, guys, what should be the issue behind such large data destruction? Any ideas?

user116211
@orlandomarinella Um... hmm.

3:17 PM
Also, I have no idea.
Data transfer depends on so many different factors, it's not even funny.
(Also, Kubuntu, specifically. KDE Plasma is the way to go.)

user116211
I also have no idea. That's why I'm using Opera even though Chrome is far better than Opera.

@MAFIA36790 Which page is this big?

user116211
@TIPS PSE.

Telling you, should stick uBlock Origin on it. AdBlock has a lot of silly passthroughs.

user116211
@orlandomarinella Well, Opera comes with in-built ad-blocking facility.

3:26 PM
True.

user116211
Well one thing is always true: IE is the worst.

Also very true.
I mean, unless you want to start running Rockmelt. :v

@MAFIA36790 Oh. Too lazy to go to the site, lemme onebox the name
@MAF 29.5 kB for me.

TIPS: Cache.

I'm using Windows on Chrome.
@orlandomarinella Yeah well, it has loaded from cache.
I don't wanna clear it.

3:33 PM
No, no.
Click inspect element.
Go to the network tab.

Yes, yes
I have.

And hit 'disable cache'. It'll disable it for the time being, but won't clear the cache.

Aha.
Disabled cache, and I get 585 kB.

I hit 433kB.

Wait a sec.
Why are we doing this, again?

user116211
3:37 PM
Well, mine was 252kB.

user116211
@TIPS Um...hmm.

32 secs ago, by TIPS
Why are we doing this, again?

Ah....
I have no idea.
It started with a weird padding class that spiraled into browser network comparisons.

user116211
But I do really want to know why this is happening... same page, different data consumption for different browsers.

user116211
@orlandomarinella :( my bad.

3:38 PM
No problem, really.
It may have something to do with the server's response to the user-agent.

@orlandomarinella Pfft, everyone knows that Chrome rules, FF rules a bit less, and IE is ruled.

Chrome is clearly the best, yes.

Opera and Safari are like shooting stars that fade fast in the meanwhile.

/me is using Chrome Beta right now, currently.
bsh.
bah

Hab

3:39 PM
Remember: Airlock 1 blew.

But Dam (a guy in another chat) uses one of the older versions of FF, and it sounds legendary.
Version 24, IIRC.

Older Firefox is the best.
Rivals Chrome.
Doesn't support everything it should, though.
For example: ECMAScript 6 isn't supported on Firefox 24.

Shrug

YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW HELPFUL ES6 IS.
It's like waking up for the first time, especially after the slog of normal JS.

@orlandomarinella /me Shrug
I'm not planning to be programming anything webbish.
So yeah, cool, if it makes life better, but still "meh".
As long as I have a toy with a screen that downloads and shows PDF's, I'm mostly good.
All the other things are entertainment.

user116211
3:47 PM
oh! I have Norton Security installed in Chrome. Does it count in increasing the data consumption?

Probably not.
Maybe.
Perhaps?
Not significantly, likely.

user116211
Well, when I deactivated, the data transfer was a bit less. So, yeah.

@MAFIA36790 probably. Norton sends and receives data for every page loaded

user116211
ah!

Tbh Norton is a bit shady >.> and consumes a lot more ressources than necessary

user116211
3:50 PM
@Hippalectryon o.O

user116211
oh.

I use Avast, and I think it also does that too.

Try Web of Trust.

Web of Thrust? :o

user116211
@orlandomarinella googling

3:51 PM
Well, that sends/receives data too

I have Web of Trust, Lastpass, HTTPS Everywhere, Pushbullet, uBlock Origin, and Project Naptha installed. Oh, and Tampermonkey.

And sincerely I'm not old enough that I need to know if google.com is safe or not :P

@orlandomarinella Does HTTPS everywhere work on meta.SE's though?

I used to have Naphta, but I realized I never used it and it was consuming too much bandwidth

yes.
It does.
StackExchange is listed as 'Partial support'.

3:52 PM
When I visit some metas in HTTPS, I get a 403.
But HTTP works fine.

It disables it for the meta, actually.
That's what partial means, I suppose.

There's also the highly upvoted bug with no response on meta.SE on this, but whatever

I have ublockO, StayFocusd,RSSReader,two wayback machine thingies, the chrome data compression proxy, a scihub thingy (ermm ermm) and some other stuff

Oh! I also have xkcd substitutions.

I don't need an extension to know which site to trust though ._.

It's not that, really.
So, if you get thrown in a bad redirect, it'll block the page while you check it out.
So, say a page has lots of viruses. It'll prevent the page from doing anything because of the reputation, and ask you if you want to fuck your computer anyways

user116211
BTW, Opera has Opera Turbo facility, which really lessens the data consumption and increases the speed to load up the page.

user116211
But how does this work?

Proxy!
It's a proxy.

3:59 PM
@MAFIA36790 same as my chrome compression proxy

user116211
ooh,

for instance if you're loading a 1980*1600 image in a 800*600 frame it will compress it

I have a poor connection so it really comes in handy

That's a thing on mobile.
Are you on mobile? :v

4:02 PM
Nope desktop

It's a extension
