A: Why there is a difference between ping "localhost" and ping "local IP address"?

EBGreenLooks like the "Localhost" alias is resolving to the IPV6 loopback and when you explicitly use an IPV4 address obviously it doesn't.

What do you think of this answer?
To me, it's just stating the obvious and am surprised people have upvoted it all the way while it just states what is seen in the screenshots.

Q: What do moderators not understand about this flag reason?

Tom WijsmanIn a similar approach of slhck's problem I thought that being very descriptive instead of just clicking not an answer would help, but instead I got the weirdest flag reason returned: What is so hard to understand about my flag reason? The rejection reason makes no sense at all, because my fla...

Seem it is Sathya again...
I'm wondering if you are in for a delete vote once that option becomes available, given that you have had a very similar meta question.
I don't think we really should be supporting these types of answers with 12 upvotes.

@TomWijsman Hmm. First of all I agree that the answer should probably be a comment because it's not really great or anything. Yours is much better.
Still, I believe the difference between the problems I had with my flags and yours is that in my cases, the OP had always specifically ruled out some answers before.
Which is not the case here.

It just feels weird that an answer that tells what is seen in screenshots is fine...
My first idea was thus to wait for the delete link to appear.

@TomWijsman Yeah, I would have converted it to a comment instead.

But the flag reason was kind of different / odd. :S

I mean, if I'm a complete n00b on interfaces and networking whatnot
And I post a screenshot

I really think the reasons should be revised, because when I state something like that this flag reason just doesn't make any sense.

and I get these ::1: whatnot responses, then somebody telling me that I ping "IPV6 loopback" … maybe that wasn't too obvious?

It meant to be the "technical inaccuracies" one, but even that one's not correct because the obvious is stated.

Yeah. The answer's not wrong.

Well, ::1 is not really a handy Google query, shows Google +1 results.

:P

But when the question asks "Why is there a difference between" then the answer is not "This is what I see in your screenshots".

Then again.. That's true.
Basic logic applied.
> Funny how high reputation users (not just me, as shown by the other meta question) are treated these days by some moderators... – Tom Wijsman 48 mins ago
I don't think that makes for a construcive discussion though
I really think the whole thing here is an edge case. Some will see the mention of IPv6 adapter as something new, others (to whom this is obvious), won't.
I don't get though why this answer was upvoted so much.

@slhck Exactly, which is why I feel wrong about that answer.
Kind of promotes the types of answers we don't want...

Yup
Should have been converted earlier.
But then again, this is a weird place and ZaB has over 1100 reputation now
:P

@slhck Yeah, upvoted him twice or thrice.
Just as part of my point / case which I am about to stop / close now, had enough moderators / users on it.
Eh well, making a general meta question and closing this case...

Q: When is an answer eligible to be flagged as "not an answer"?

Tom WijsmanWhen I am flagging answers I read This was posted as an answer, but it does not answer the question. It should possibly be an edit, a comment, another question, or deleted altogether. This is very broad and does not say when an answer is eligible to (or should) be flagged. Usually, this le...

@TomWijsman Looks good to me, +1
