If Joe is annoyed, there must be seriously something very wrong with the questions. :)

@JoeStrazzere I sometimes get to that stage on Productivity.SE - "I haven't studied all year, it's only a week till exams - how can I cram everything?" ... You can't. Do what you can but plan for retaking next year. I walk away for a bit and come back calmer :-)

@RoryAlsop There's a productivity.se?

@Zak yup - productivity.stackexchange.com
lots of crossover with workplace

Can we have a "Whining SE" and put all those morons in there??

I'm not sure people would voluntarily go to whinning.SE...
just like people usually think that their IQ is above average. Most if not all of them.

@RoryAlsop but alas, no activity :'(
@MaskedMan you write good answers, not sure why you are surprised :P

2:57 PM
@MaskedMan It was probably just me. I feel better now... ;-)

3:16 PM
@JoeStrazzere nope, not you, the whiners were out in full force

3:43 PM
@RichardU Put forth a proposal on Area 51. I will definitely support it.
@bilbo_pingouin No problem, we will just migrate those questions there.

@bilbo_pingouin I've actually been tested to that end, but big whoop. :) IQ is a meaningless assessment that shows the world how well you can do puzzles. It doesn't address creativity, intuition or application of knowledge (i.e. wisdom)

@MaskedMan Don't tempt me..... too late. Expect to see it soon
@ChristopherEstep because of the brain injury and the autism, my IQ rating is meaningless. I can do some things unbelievably well, but others, barely at the level of a High-school student. I focus on the miraculous ;)

@bilbo_pingouin That's known as the Dunning-Kruger effect. I first heard of it right here on Workplace.SE in response to my first question here: "Who is an expert?"

Dunning-Kruger keeps me employed. Too many so-called coders know just enough to be dangerous. Call in the maintenance coder!

Whoa that makes me realize I haven't asked too many questions here, and the last one I asked was ages ago. Gotta start asking more questions.

3:49 PM
@RichardU that's precisely my point. There are so many different kinds of intelligence that aren't critically quantifiable. Is someone who can intuit what someone needs in a 30 second conversation less intelligent than me because I can do logic puzzles really well?
*than I
lol
I'm so pedantic that sometimes I even annoy myself.

@enderland Glad to hear someone say that. :) I write answers mainly to improve my English writing skills. Used to do that earlier at Anime & Manga.SE, but I like it better here now. :)

A: How can I make sure to not get screwed over in recruitment to a startup?

RetroCodeSince I donnot have enough reputation to leave a comment , I will leave my answer here. First of all your concern is absolutely justified. You have to research salaries and compensations of similar positions in your area while keeping in mind that finding the optimal number is just an ideal. Yo...

4:23 PM
@enderland you'd like to think it's because everyone is out being productive, but sadly it's missing out in two key areas: really good Productivity professionals make a lot of money doing it professionally - it's hard to get them to give their secrets away. And looking at the questions it seems like many people are lazy and want a quick fix without putting in any effort
@bilbo_pingouin My IQ is way above average. Does being in Mensa help me in any day to day things? Nope.
Probably does help with the day job a bit, but really...

5:04 PM
@ChristopherEstep I do have a few savant skills. The only problem is I don't know how they work. Someone shouts out a math problem and I have the answer, I just do... or I'll look at some buggy code and say THERE is your problem. Don't know how I do it. How would an IQ test even rate that.

You can't measure something you don't understand and we don't understand the brain well enough to do that.

Hah, I voted to close something as a duplicate and I didn't even realise that I had an answer on the original I linked... My mind must be going.

Yeah, as time goes by you have more conflicts of interest. Just try not to think too much about it. I understand that disclosing it actually makes you feel like you have free license to take advantage (Author, Year)?

uh, what?

7:05 PM
Probably one of those contrarian things I've read in industry rags that has no real evidence. I'll look in my bibliographic database when I get a chance.

@RoryAlsop by construction half of the people have more IQ than average. The other half less. Other wise it ain't an average...

You're just mean. (yes I'm such a nerd that I'll make bad statistics puns)

9:41 PM
Hahahahahahahaha

10:04 PM
I'm having trouble extracting anything generally useful to contribute to workplace.SE in the form of a question related to this write-up (which is why I haven't posted it to the main site), yet I feel like I need to include the details I've written up in this Github Gist to get meaningful answers from people... If anyone wants to read my long post and help me either ask a question on the site, or actually offer me some advice, it'd be appreciated...
(not a Water Cooler regular, but I'm an obsessive Root Access (Super User) chat regular, so I'll see any pings you drop me even if it's much later.)

Q: How is the "stack ranking" question opinion-based?

Monica CellioHow do I ensure fair performance ratings in the dreaded stack ranking system? is on hold as primarily opinion-based. If it were a question about the ranking system itself I might agree, but this question asks how a manager can fairly rank his employees given the requirement to rank them relative...
