@ChristopherEstep Wow, you are waaaaay ahead there! :)

11 hours later…
2:29 PM
@MaskedMan yeah, I'm a little OCD about queues. :)

2:48 PM
I'm wondering about something. I have NEVER been able to pass a tech interview. Not a single time. I'm fine on the job, and was only fired for cause once (BAD fit in the WORST way). But I'm wondering, should I try to learn how to do one, or just keep going the way I am?

3:37 PM
how do you get work if you don't pass tech interviews?

magic

can't go wrong with magic

It cant be that hard............Can it? Given that there are massive quantities of money and resources spent trying to address this problem by nearly every company (in most industries, too), yes, yes it is that hard. Look on SO jobs - there are tons of companies who gladly pay that amount of money for a reason. — enderland ♦ 2 mins ago
this question is a perfect chat question, too bad the OP doesn't have enough rep

I want to slap anyone that says "how hard can it be?"

This hard. POW
I'd like to have a clause in my contracts where I get $100 every time someone implies that something isn't that hard and they aren't a technical peer.

If you're a fellow engineer, tell me that it's not hard and then we'll argue about it as equals. But if you don't know how to do what I do,... POW

"it's just a button, how hard can it be?"

3:55 PM
exactly. "Can you move this button from this part of the page to the sidebar? Should only take a couple minutes, right? POW
"Hey , PHB! Go to your car dealer and ask them to put the brake on the right. It's just a few inches, right??"

4:17 PM
@RichardU I'm actually about 60/40 on tech interviews. They so hit or miss. Some guys just want to see that you're not full of crap and the rest want to test you on their pet questions. I do best on conceptual and "how would you..." questions.
Where I suck is when they start asking specifics about commands. I suck at tests.

"It is becoming increasingly common for attorneys desiring more than a few weeks off from the practice of law to simply quit their current jobs and take a hiatus from practicing law"
D-: Fascinating, although I guess most established lawyers have the capital (both financial and reputational) to pull that off.

Must be nice to be able to choose to take "more than a few weeks off". I can't think of many non-academic environments that doing so wouldn't harm your career there.
Heck, I haven't had an actual vacation in 4 years.

Q: Struggling with some issues. Where can I meet and converse with the right people?

user65055Ok, My Second attempt at this question as the first was written incorrectly. Apologies! Ok here we go - My issue is, I am having difficulty forming a network of like minded people and experienced developers/engineers to help with the generation, formation and creation of a product/application...

sigh I don't really want to be the bad guy again

@ChristopherEstep People in Europe seem to have employee friendly vacation policies. Some of my European colleagues take a couple of months off and nobody can do anything about it apparently.
More like, they are required to use their vacation days, or else their manager gets a friendly letter from a government official, or so one of my European colleague-cum-friend told me once.

@MaskedMan a lot of germany takes off much of august

I get 34 days of vacation per year, not counting the 10 mandatory holidays. If I add the unused vacation carried forward from previous year then it is even more.

I... don't get that many haaha

5:24 PM
We have here the "General" leave of 12 days which is "use it or lose it", and 22 days of "Earned" leave, of which 12 can be carried forward. You can have upto 60 days of Earned leave in the balance at a time.
@enderland Come to India. It is not all about Relieving letter problems, you know? There are some good things here too. ;)

6:10 PM
@ChristopherEstep I've gotten in the back way "contract to hire". I don't do well on tests, but when you put me down in front of real work, I do well. I just don't know how to make that come across in a test. Good resume helps too

This would also be a good question for chat as it's more of a discussion than an actual question. — enderland ♦ 5 secs ago

Q: Should edits to Programming Test question be rolled back?

David KI initially voted to close the question "How do I determine if a programming task doable during interview?" for being not about the workplace, but after a comment from Andrew Berry I retracted my vote and edited the question to generalize it and make it more on-topic for the Workplace. However, ...

I'm inclined to agree with you, particularly since the question the OP really seems to want to ask is "how do I make these questions better?" and all the answers seem to be answering that question, rather than the bolded question. — enderland ♦ 11 mins ago
@enderland You agree with Brandin or me?

@DavidK you

Oh, ok. I interpreted it the other way and was going to ask for further discussion, but I guess that's not needed :)

I edited my comment there, too

thanks
