Q: Explain and downvote - Good Practice?

Dawny33This is just a proposal, which I consider is a good practise, especially on WorkPlace. All the answers here are mostly opinions, advises and suggestions, which (in most cases) are sincere efforts to help the OP with his/her situation. So, in case someone disagrees with an answer, it would be re...

@Lilienthal I vaguely remember seeing a very similar question like this. Any idea of such question?

Q: How to dress if there is no dress code?

kifliI started working 2 months ago and my company doesn't have a dress code. Most of my colleagues come to work dressed in a very casual way. Just jeans and t-shirts, in some cases t-shirts with funny messages or images. I have tried to dress in more professional way. But eventually I stopped as it...

@Dawny33 No, there's no exact duplicate (I wouldn't have answered it if there was :) )
These are close:

Q: Can it be harmful to dress more formally than what the dress code allows?

maple_shaftWe all know that not wearing clothes considered appropriate for the dress code can be a bad thing. Your typical business-casual dress code probably frowns upon wearing jeans, tank tops, black bra with a white shirt, etc... What is the general attitude towards someone who dresses above the stand...

Q: New Job, Casual Attire, First Impression

john doeI have accepted a new job at a particular company. The company has casual attire (Jeans, T-Shirt). I have even seen some people wearing shorts (I would pass on that!). Since, I will be joining as a new employee how I should be dressed for 2-3 months. Should I still wear formal attire (full slee...

Ohh, nevermind. This is the one I was talking about. It's very different from that.

A: Pros and Cons of overdressing the mentioned interview attire for an interview

Benedikt BauerFirst of all, it depends a bit on how the hint was given: If it was worded like "Business casual is sufficient", it might be just a nice hint by the interviewer telling you that you don't have to be too concerned about dressing not formal enough. in this case it may be fine to come in full busine...

Btw, a nice point there "Err on the formal side" (+1) cc @Lilienthal

@Dawny33 Cheers
It was a good chance for a semi-canonical dress code answer.
I'm surprised it hasn't been brought up before really.
There could be an obscure question buried in the archives but it's certainly not searchable if it exists.

A: How to dress if there is no dress code?

LilienthalIn the absence of a formal dress code, you look to what your colleagues are wearing to determine what the informal dress code is. In this case, you seems to be in a workplace with a mixed dress code: fully casual for the rank and file and presumably business casual or even formal business wear fo...

I love how people feel the need to keep repeating what I'm saying ;)
I'm voting to close this question as off-topic because it is about college/hostel issues, which is off-topic in this site — Dawny33 43 mins ago
Good close reason @Dawny33, and a good idea to separate it from your advice to the OP so people can vote for just the close reason.

^_^ Cheers! But, I feel bad for that poor girl. UPSC is one if the top government exams in India. Only 1 in 1 million get through!

Q: How to deal with a coworker who makes hateful comments on my religion?

developerI have a colleague who does not like the religion I practice. We are connected on Facebook, and I often find him making offensive comments about my religion online. We are on the same team and project at work, and I don't want to create an unhealthy atmosphere in the workplace by unfriending him....

Hmm, is it hateful comments "on my religion" or "about my religion"?

oh boy, just from looking at that title...

I corrected about in the body but forgot it in the title.
Yeah it's another good one @enderland
We've had 3 questions pop in the HNQ in the past 8 hours now. :)

I'd like @Dawny33 to write an answer there since it's from India
I think all the current answers are... written from a very Western point of view

At least I acknowledged my bias :)
And to be fair I only tagged it India after posting, it wasn't in the original.

realistically the solution is stop following the person or hide them from your wall (or block them, if you want)

3:28 PM
That's an easy fix, it's the comments at work that are the problem.
(it's also off-topic which is why the first version got close votes)

oh, I missed that part of teh question

4:15 PM
@enderland In India, religious intolerance is a huge problem.

For example, the cow is worshipped as a mother and/or a Goddess.

And me, being an atheist love eating beef. So, I often get hateful comments thrown at me, and my buddies who eat beef.

You just need to shrug them off. If people don't know the meaning of a _secular_ country, then you can't do much about them. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Existing answers have done a good job, explaining that :)

5:10 PM
@Dawny33 yeah, it's hard to say, I'm curious though if talking to your boss actually would be helpful or maybe even make it worse
just got an email titled...

Pfff, another 200 rep wasted already today. These daily limits feel counter-productive sometimes. :)
Especially if you're good at sniffing out HNQs like me ;)
