@OneTwoThree You've got a separate issue then. Is applying to grad school more important than your job? If it isn't, then you shouldn't ask your boss because he may see you as having a foot out the door. If it is, then you should discuss your plans with your boss -- what the schedule for applying is, when you'll hear back, what you want to do about work in the meantime, what your plans are when you graduate, etc.

@tomjedrz - With the current form of the question, I think it's very worth reopening. It's gone from "I have issues with my long-term relationship" to the more generally useful "I have personal issues". I can't vote to reopen, but I flagged it for such. — Bobson 16 hours ago

keshlamRemember that in most larger companies you're going to have to get the safety department involved in approving ANYTHING electric that comes into the building, especially something involving heat and/or water.
