@JimG. it has vote split +1/-5, comment mentioning that it's hard to read and is deleted by one trusted user and moderator (maybe there were also flags for mod attention, I can't tell)

A: Are the Downvoting police too active?

Shog9 Some of these questions were valid, though they could have been written better. But is that enough reason to mark them down? Sure. There are other reasons to downvote something, but "hard to read" is legit. This isn't some grade-school essay contest where you get points just for completing t...

Strongly agree with Chad. This is a totally different question -- this is asking about how to deal with a request for a relieving letter from several employers ago years in the past, and not about the most recent position which makes it quite different. — jmac ♦ 16 hours ago
@Jmac - Would you be willing to reopen that question then?

@Chad Yes. And done. We need to get more India-specialists around.

@jmac The culture is so different I have talked with a few they just do not grasp the ideas of free choice that we take for granted.

A: On which of the websites of Stack Exchange one can ask about career options and expert advice from software professionals?

Patrick HofmanThe Workplace is the place to be. According to the on-topic page: Q&A site about the workplace and other career-related topics

yknow what id like to see, the '20 reviews a day' limit changed to '20 open reviews' at any given time, so that on excessively busy days, those willing to review can do as much to help as they can, this still rate limits people but doesnt ruin the sites self moderation chances in the process

Q: Thanks TWP Community!

Jim G.Just wanted to extend a big "Thanks" to TWP community for a great effort to push us over the goal line to graduation. We came a long way guys, and it would've never been possible without some big contributions from some key members. Thanks a lot guys! And good luck to all candidates in the upcom...

Q: New custom close reason here on meta

ChrisFI've proposed the following new custom close reason for here on Meta.Programmers: The problem described here can no longer be reproduced. Changes to the system or to the circumstances affecting the asker have rendered it obsolete. If you encounter a similar problem, please post a new question...

^^^ consider same for TWP meta, really useful stuff

Hi I am a software developer and have started my career recently . I have got very little knowledge in a some languages like C, JAVA (Core), Objective C (iOS). I want to become a specialist in a language with deep knowledge. Which language should I learn which is most rewarding easy to get a job and has good future?

7:24 PM
@MKSingh That is probably a question best handled in programmers chat... chat.stackexchange.com/rooms/21/the-whiteboard

@RhysW howdy! Getting ready for Shabbat here, but saw activity in the room and wanted to drop in and say hi. Have a good weekend all!
@MKSingh I've found that the most rewarding pursuits are the ones I enjoy. So even if a job as a Foo programmer would bring me more money than one as a Blub programmer, if I love Blub and don't like Foo it's a bad idea to chase the money. Also, languages come and go; types and styles of programming are more important. Do you like digging into the depths of servers? Making spiffy UIs? Solving hard data problems? Dealing with massive scale? Building intuitive APIs?
Figure out what excites you first, and then worry about languages and technologies IMO.

I just left this comment on the (now-edited) "agony aunt" meta post:
This question is getting linked a lot on main, so I've edited it to be a little more suitable for that purpose. When a new user's first encounter with the post (or our meta at all) is the original title of this question, it doesn't always leave a good impression. It made sense at the time, back in 2012, when probably nobody thought it'd be widely referenced. — Monica Cellio ♦ 28 secs ago
I didn't review the answers, though, so if there's anything that ought to be tweaked there and anybody's got time to do so, please go for it. Let's make sure our frequently-referenced posts give a good impression. Thanks.
