@Evil so did you like em or not? any reactions/ emotions on either?

@vzn so you have misspelled her name, so you like her? Freud would pick on that instantly.

vzn
@Gilles what, is the blacklisting several-year-long-cold-shoulder-treatment by multiple SE mods finally cracking? o_O
@Evil oops lol geez, fixed her 1st name & then messed up the last; you spell better than many native english spkrs o_O

@vzn I never blacklisted you. If I never reply to you, it's just because you're that boring. And often incomprehensible.

vzn
@Gilles lol boring and incomprehensible, a truly unpardonable/ unforgivable crime/ sin, anyway thx for the 1-time-per-few-yrs encouragement :( o_O :P

@vzn you are a grown up boy, you will shrug that off ;)

vzn
12:09 AM
@Evil TRTH HRTZ :P

@vzn at least you were not blacklisted, see? This is a plus.

vzn
@Evil so do you have (human) reactions to (any) movies at all, or are you kind of like spock?

@vzn so you are full capable of using the capital letters? ;p

vzn
@Evil @#$& YES ABSOLUTELY! :P
":P" has a capital letter! :P
knightly KNIGHTLEY

@vzn shouting her name like that might be misunderstood by your significant other ;)
So Freudian, you wanted to say "honey" but shouted KNIGHTLEY instead. So how do you feel about it?

vzn
12:24 AM
@Evil feel like you are evading writing anything meaningful about the movies youve seen, a typical timekilling activity of typical humans... :|

@vzn I am not Star Trek-ish enough to decipher the meaning.

vzn
@Evil really? srsly? you hadnt heard? spock has no emotions. hes not human.

@vzn I am not evasive, just less profusely sharing my emotions.
And didn't wanted to spoil any clues / hints if you ever would pick our little game. But you have more than enough, and twice I wrote something to make you almost certain, but you have resigned :-/
@vzn so he is not highly analitical with indication of enhanced autistic spectrum?
About the "Imitations game" (besides stretched facts) and with other "biographical" movies / plots I found it disturbing that quirks / addictions / sexual orientation are so exaggerated.
I do not know what to say / write. I liked both movies, plausible to watch. I have enjoyed them, but no hype / rush to deliberately write about them that much. Probably you have enjoyed the Imitations game a bit more than me, so I didn't picked that topic.
And I am really accustomed to stories far more emotional and real, so I do not get that attached or emotional after watching nicely writen and easy movies.
@vzn I know it is expected to elaborate, but as far as I know (and am used to) this is not always the case.
And because of this, the Freud is recognized as cocaine addict, a weirdo, a deviant (which is not entirely true). Turing was pictured as homosexual and weirdo. I will not be clapping to stories that show people who changed the world in that light. I really hoped these movies would highlight something important instead...
On the other hand the movie with relevant facts without some dirt, action and complex emotions are boring and hard to sell, so it is what it is.
Because of that I prefer fantasy, something so detached from reallity that will not bother me. I hear the high grade drama very often, do not take facts from movies, and for the horrors - I have tv news...

@Evil halleluja! intelligent signs of life!
just thought that anyone highly conversant with psychology, as apparently you are, might have a lot of opinions on the movie...
@Evil "more emotional" stories? huh? what could be "more emotional" than big budget hollywood dramatizations?
@Evil disagree. think the humanity of the characters shone through and (seemed) neither was overly unrepresentative of the real person. esp liked the freud/ jung dichotomy, was aware of it from writings but didnt realize they were close contemporaries/ cohorts.
@Evil fully agreed that "monetization" inevitably/ unfortunately/ regrettably distorts the stories. but hopefully not by too much. just am overjoyed that hollywood is even willing to try the "very important stories" that are well known to insiders but which the public, obsessed highly familiar with eg kim kardashian, may not be so cognizant.
@Evil aha! so fantasy is your thing! what are your faves? will have to think of my faves along those lines. ps just saw this one in 3d, impressive, see what you think! imdb.com/title/tt3332064

5:13 AM
@vzn probably more than I should share. Not exactly popular, polite or "timekilling activity like"
@vzn I really hope this was an irony. If not I should probably envy your life.
@vzn in that case I am not sure if that is for the best. Taking shallow tricks... machiavellistic ghouls... ruin sacred values giving void in return
@vzn About Kim I am aware of shouty existence, but never watched. I hope that in the short exposures it is not contagious.
@vzn I haven't seen it, but I am sure you loved it ;)
@vzn the Highlander, Vidocq.

vzn
5:32 AM
@Evil interesting, some old friends liked highlander (tv show). vidocq, this one? it seems to have been remade a few times... imdb.com/title/tt0164961
@Evil US has given up on physical manufacturing except for images and cornered the intl market on the latter :| ... which reminds me of old expr, must surely have originated in US, sell the sizzle, not the steak

@vzn yes, this one.

vzn
fantasy eh? you might like tim burton movies, have liked a few of them myself... hes regarded as something like a modern folklorist... eg alice in wonderland imdb.com/title/tt1014759

@vzn sounds like saying from this cheap imitation of science, NLP...

vzn
@Evil have heard some )( of NLP. maybe should look into it more sometime. wonder if it was really invented by marketers! :P
on "related movies" on alice in wonderland it mentioned maleficent. pretty good! nuanced/ major rethink! imdb.com/title/tt1014759 which reminds me of jolie in beowulf. notable for 3d/ cgi characters. imdb.com/title/tt0442933 ... esp nude scene =D :P
think maybe read this kids book myself at young age. has quite a bit of psychology. reminiscent of peter pan story somewhat. charlie & chocolate factory imdb.com/title/tt0367594

@vzn no, by the guy who had inoperable terminal cancer, a month to live maybe, if he behaved himself. He described how to reprogram thinking about a dozen years later. That was NLP, now what is told and sold is indeed working, for the book authors exclusively...
@vzn how is your significant other by the way? Since we are discussing drooling over 3D Jolie...
@vzn yeah, it is blatantly obvious what kid stories you like and watch. I wanted to ask you if I can call you Peter, I hope it is not too soon ;]

Q: sequence of problems that take $\Theta(n^k)$ for increasing $k$?

Albert HendriksDo we know an infinite sequence of decision problems where the most efficient algorithm for each problem takes $\Theta(n^k)$ time, where $k$ increases unboundedly? Suppose for example that we would know that finding a k-clique takes $\Theta(n^k)$, then this sequence could be {1-clique, 2-clique,...

Hello!! Is someone of you familiar with Huffman trees?
And especially for a block code?

4:32 PM
@Evil she is ok, part of reason got into psychology in more "depth" last few yrs. long story! thx for asking, do you have one?

4:44 PM
@vzn and who is evasive? So you went to psychology to help with your relationship? What are the odds...
@vzn not that long story, fixed time at most, and you like to chat, so the sooner you start the better :>
@vzn so you do discard the rare event of multiple personalities, dissociative identity disorder, where each personality is aware of the others and of course cummulative narcissistic behaviour overflows to the extend that we will not interpret the question as being valid one?
@vzn it would be so funnier if you'd guess and tell me a few things about me, you know like in the joke about two behsviorists

vzn
5:00 PM
@Evil assumption by you. my sentence was more ambiguous than that. :|

@vzn yes. So how can I disambiguate it the easier way? You just admitted being more evasive or this is another assumption?
@vzn let me put it the other way, it was supposed to miss the point

pipelining can't beat hyperthreading

Not always true, when you take embarassingly serial code

It probably should be funny, but it is so wrong at so many levels...
Maybe it is different worldwide, but as far as I know it is mostly plain wrong.
Decades ago, psychologists prescribed meds - it was good, they were trained in a very narrow field and only that field. This ended, and psychologists are still trained in pharmacotherapy but cannot prescribe anything. But the outcome is devastating, the psychiatrists started to play therapists and think that only they should work with the patients. Totally not prepared try to interview patients and make trials to test if the medicine works, not needed the most of the time anyway.
I do not belive in people who prescribe tranqualizers for nervous breakdown when the patient with heartburn appears, but they cannot tell that apart :(

vzn
7:20 PM
generally agree with you

They should practice the Hippocratic Oath more often. Drug trials until they conceal the problem (with addiction as a bonus) breaks this everyday they work...
Since the switch that psychiatrists exclusively prescribe meds, the addictions, production and the pharmaceutical companies blossomed. The number of prescriptions increased more than thousandfold, and the new disorders appeared. The most of them shall be classified as the drug misuse. Some are not even real (if I can say that about purely psychic problems...).
I had a moment of false belief that a pharmaceutical company might be actually interested in the patients well-being and the evaluation of pills they produce. Totally not interested in any clinical trial. Even though I wanted to test some cases for free - I needed homogenic group with the same diagnose and prescription. But they got scared that the results might be bad...

vzn
7:46 PM
yep. widespread modern day 21st century pseudoscience

One company from US, one Canadian... etc. No deal, no permission. Probably the dealbreaker was agreement to "make sure that the results are good". But this is one of the things that are not to be negotiated or bought, so I am not doing trials :-/

vzn
@Evil "corporations rule the world"

@vzn when the doctors get the list of drugs that they should prescribe from sponsors, it is plainly sickening...
People are moral, but of course adjustable and flexible...
Although I would like to get rich (who wouldn't?), but falsifying data makes me sick at every level possible...

8:18 PM
@vzn about the movies, I am going to watch the Doctor Strange. But if I have to choose between watching the telly or filling the CS gaps, CS wins. Lately I have read the Turings paper from 1936, a few dozens of posts from here and TCS, started to snoop around the functional programming and the reductions. It goes slowly, but the satisfaction from understanding something is bigger than from mindless show.

vzn
9:06 PM
@Evil spking of that, theres a good movie on Turing! j/k ... anyway do wanna hear your 1-line review of Dr Strange when you get around to it :) ... spking of that did you know that cumberbatch starred in a good movie on Turing? :P

@vzn I do not know, not counting the Imitations game?

vzn
@Evil its the only movie on Turing afaik...

9:27 PM
@vzn the same movie that yesterday I wrote depreciation about it, and concluded that you like Keira?
That are some vast memory losses...
@vzn I try to take responsibility for the communication on my part, clarify and linearize, but I am a bit lost right now, if the main character was supposed to be a surprise, well it does not since I watched the movie and we talked about it more than 3 times...

j/k=just kidding

@vzn ah, another deciphered shortcut
@vzn this ")(" means "very close"?

vzn
