as WL points out DAGs may be more natural for your app. is there a reason you want to confine to trees & not DAGs?
a tree defn itself seems to be a "notation" for your data structure.

No, it don't have to be a tree, that was just used as an explanation. It could be anything as long I have a hierarchy where the content of child levels is per definition also part of parent levels.
It seems to me like a common problem, so I guess there is a general term for that.
@Raphael Yes, as you said, an implementation would be no problem. I am searching for a general term for that though.
