Is there a way to permanently hardware-disable the "Windows Key" in Debian?

@WorseDoughnut Hardware-disable? So that it doesn't even work on different OS or bios?
I don't see how that could be possible through the OS, not unless you get access to they keyboard firmware.

@terdon No, i guess "hardware disable" is the wrong term for it. But never mind either way, I've got a dell support call scheduled about this already anyway.

@WorseDoughnut You think they can help on the *nix front? I doubt it. What do you really need? Disable it in the GUI only? In virtual consoles as well?
Will xmodmap -e 'keycode 38=' do?

Well we bought the laptop with Ubuntu on it, and the regular support guy couldn't help, so i had to schedule a call with the "advanced linux support" team that doesnt work weekends.

The laptop keeps going to the lock screen and then sleeping, randomly and very frequently; i though the windows key was bugged and was seind the Win + L lock randomly. But then it persisted during a live boot of Clonezilla, which doesn't support Win+ L, so now I think it's a hardware issue with the power button, but it doesn't randomly turn off in the BIOS or in GRUB, so it's probably some obscure linux issue,
This issue has persisted between clean Debian installs as well

OK, sounds like a hardware bug, as you say. The Dell folks are the ones to ask.

Yeah we've got the damn pro support, so i might as well use it.
It's like, days beyond the return date though, which is BS
