@DeathMaskSalesman Can't say I have. It's too risky, often to get not a lot of reward (If I wanted to redo partitions on my tablet, I'd free about 8Mb.)
@Izzy Hah, fair enough.

4 hours later…
10:51 AM
@DanBrown Which is about the size of the "preload" partition, is it?

3 hours later…
1:32 PM
@DanBrown Yeah. Next step was doing a full backup from TWRP, which failed – that was when the boot-loop came in then. I'm still not sure what part it was: TWRP not finding /data and borking things, or me misinterpreting the progress bar of "formatting cache" to hang while it simply took >5min to complete...

1 hour later…
3:01 PM
@Izzy I think it's TWRP not finding /data, I have had that issue before.
@DeathMaskSalesman I think so (Don't touch it lol) but it's also what's free in /system.

3:19 PM
@DanBrown Or maybe both. I just wonder what will happen if I now trigger another full backup via TWRP. Will it break again? As long as TiBu isn't working either, I'm somehow not in the mood to try that again.

how nowdays online app providers come to know that I have tampered with their installed application?
in my country banking system provide their own android application for mobile banking..my friend and I modified their app after installation by patching the odex file and add some patches in the installed directory..basically the patch was to save decryption key in the text file. When we tried to login it says "You are not authorized to login. Service is tampered with which breaks section 2 of our ToS". I wonder how did they come to know.
obviously if I reinstall their app..it will work normal again

4:30 PM
Anyone experiences with APKPure.com? Just got it recommended at XDA and now trying to figure how trustworthy it is. Not much found on that via Google search (at least not when ignoring WOT results).

Never heard Of it, really. I'll have a quick look.
Well, Little to no ADs (I got a fake download button one that no-one falls for, a World Of Tanks AD, and thats it) It did provide a clean apk though.
they have an app too.
Oh, and they seem to respond to comments and questions. That, I like to see.
@AlanWatch MD5 on the odex? God knows. Maybe it detected root - They can Do that.

@DanBrown they cross-check signatures it says. But I prefer to hear that proven from a trustable source other than the site itself :)

If I count as a trustable Source, these apps do seem legit. just comparing a couple to be safe

@DanBrown yes, and a repo behind that. And you can get "historic versions" and all that. That all makes it sound interesting (thinking about including them with my app lists, as you can e.g. also get apps which are otherwise "locked down" for your country). And thinking whether to mention it as good "playstore alternative" for free apps at least.
@DanBrown That makes a good point indeed.
@DanBrown No offense, but if I say "Dan approved it" people will ask me "Who?" :)

@Izzy I can vouch for APKMirror.com for all that too. I've not used APKPure.com myself though.

4:40 PM
Yeah true.
Hah, they even don't publish up paid apps. mostly

@Izzy I'm sure "Bmdixon approved it" would meet the same response though ;)

@bmdixon Afraid so. Anyone else who wants to try? #D

You could always say "The community at Android SE"

I mean, if someone finds a good reference, I'd like to hear (and read) that.

We do have a question about APKMirror
13
Q: Is apkmirror.com safe?

DavidIs it safe to download and install Google Play from apkmirror.com? How can I check this is a safe download? Backstory: I had to factory reset my original Samsung Galaxy Tab as it refused to start up. After the reset, I haven't been able to update Google Play. Every time I try, it crashes with '...

4:42 PM
@DanBrown Still would need more than 3 voices. Well, I could do the same as with "Is Aptoide safe to use?" to gather some more v... oh.
Wait, I asked for APKPure, not for APKMirror :)

@Izzy Oh, that aptoide question. I wanted to throttle the OP

APKMirror has backing from AndroidPolice AFAIR.

@Izzy yeah, sorry... i'll shut up now ;)
@Izzy It does

@bmdixon Not if you can come up with something useful :P

Well, google Likes It, avast has heard nothing but good stuff, I've got APK's with matching signatures to Play store versions, and BlueStacks even likes them, And they provide .xapk, which is apparently .apk's with an OBB cache.

4:48 PM
@DanBrown Yupp. That's good enough for me, though it's not enough for a "reputation to refer to". Why I'd like APKPure is they are easy to link to for an app if you know its package name :)
What I also like: "don't need any registration to use it"

haha, true. WOT scores it 91/100 for trustworthiness.

(quote from a 5 year old answer here – so it's been around for a while and we never heard anything bad about it. That also counts something.
WOT did you say? Who gives a <censored> about what a company with such reputation says? #D

@Izzy Hahahahaha, again true. I'll give 'em the benefit of the doubt - We don't care what apple comes out with, but some do.

Yeah. But speaking about safety and privacy, WOT is not a good source with what happened.

What Happened?

A-thank you! Lets have a look...
ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Thats an issue.
It ain't long ago, either, Damn.

5:16 PM
And you missed that? It was on almost any news site.

1 hour later…
6:40 PM
I missed that too.
Why do any of you need APKPure?

7:22 PM
@DeathMaskSalesman 1) old versions of apps, 2) apps available on Play but blocked for your country?

1 hour later…
8:36 PM
@Izzy Never came up on the feed (lol) I'll poke around at some point, see if anyone is complaining. In the mean time, I've got some research to do.

8:49 PM
@DanBrown Good luck with that then!

9:11 PM
@Izzy Thanks! Just putting some stuff together, I'll be posting a lovely Detailed quesrton and answer on the site Saturday, I think.
*Question

@DanBrown Sounds interesting if it takes that much preparation, looking forward to it!

1 hour later…
10:26 PM
@Izzy Its more of a case of Making sure I've some sources and entertaining stuff-Doing a little 'How-to' On adoptable storage or all devices. This'll be fun. Doing Something one for something the week after, no idea on what yet.
