Q: Where do "modified" .apk files stand?

eldarerathisThis question is directly related to my answer to a question on the main site: Mobile to PC skype video chat? The timeline for the sake of relevancy: The questioner was looking for a way to make a Skype video call from his phone (EVO, not supported by Skype's video feature) to a computer. I saw ...

Q: Why there is a must-have tag?

LifeH2OIt is clear that questions with must-have tag will be very subjective and localized. Why there is a must-have tag?

2
Q: How to create tags without creating a question?

onikWhile browsing the site I noticed that there are no separate tags yet for the new Samsung Galaxy Tabs (8.9 and 10.1) and tried to find a place to create these in order to encourage separation of the old Tab and the new Honeycomb models. Can the tags be created in advance or do we have to wait for...

Q: What's happening with all these title changes!?

SamTheBrand ΨI'm Sam. I work at Stack Exchange HQ in NYC. As you may have noticed, I've been refining some titles to turn them into questions and better reflect the query posed. Don't hesitate to let me know if you've got an issue with any of my edits. Thanks, SB

Q: A new Moderator Pro Tempore, cooling on the window sill

Shog9The beta is over, and Android.SE is a full-fledged member of The Stack Exchange network. By rights, you should be electing moderators, but instead the site is still moderated by Moderators Pro Tempore. This is... somewhat unfortunate. We'd really like to hold elections, but... There aren't quite ...

Hi everyone! I’m the math intern, and I thought I’d introduce myself by sharing a little something from what I’ve been doing. A little about me: I’m a moderator and frequent contributor at math.SE: In real life, I’m a rising senior at MIT. I have a math blog, Annoying Precision, which unfortunately is not very accessible to non-mathematicians (sorry!). I think using the internet to spread knowledge more effectively is great, so I’m a big fan of the Stack Exchange network. This summer, my job is to look at the Stack Exchange network’s data and see if I can find anything interesting.  …

Anytime you find yourself answering the same question over and over and over and over … blog post time.

This is that blog post.

This cycle has repeated itself on more sites than I can remember — When a new community approaches the end of their beta period, users start looking forward to graduation. So when that 90th day looms, anticipation starts to turn into speculation about whether the site is going to survive.

Does this site have a chance of succeeding? Is this site viable? Visits per day — should we be worried? At what point will this site grow out of the beta stage? What are the crit …

Jeff & Joel are joined this week by Jin Yang – our resident web/graphic designer here at Stack (the distinction between the two becomes a discussion point).  Once we get the proper picture of Jin in the chatroom, he relates everything from his background in design to how he ended up at Stack Exchange and our philosophy behind design.

Full topics this week include:

Jin refers to himself as a “web designer” as opposed to a “graphic designer” because of the type of work he focuses on. …

Have you noticed the new ads appearing on all of the Stack Exchange sites?

That’s right, despite a well-publicized aversion to email spam, we’ve added weekly newsletters to all Stack Exchange sites!

The site newsletters are meant for all of those sites that you find interesting but aren’t quite addicted to enough to visit every day.  They include the top hot questions for the week, new up-voted unanswered questions, and (coming soon!) important moderator announcements.  They’re an easy way to catch up on what you might have missed each week. …

Among other things, we sell job listings through our Careers 2.0 service, and we thought it might be helpful to determine some of the factors that impact the success of a listing. So we crunched through 6 months of data and these are some of the things we found.

In order to get people to apply for your job, you will have to get them to your listing first. There are a few places that will help with that: our text ads on Stack Overflow (see image), various places on our web site and our tweets. Due to space considerations there isn’t a whole lot for people to base their decision on (to click or not to click?). They’ll see: …

Alrighty, now that those are out of the way we should only get blog and meta posts as they are posted. Main site questions are still on the ticker so the chatroom isn't clogged. I'll try to be in here more often than I have been, and hopefully we can get some activity in here again.

Q: Site promotion ideas?

SamTheBrand ΨModerators, serious Stackers and casual users, Within the coming weeks, we here at Stack Central will be putting a little bit of effort into promoting the Android site. We're hoping to get you involved. Please chime in with any ideas -- from traditional (banner ads, giveaways, forum outreach, e...

My best guess would be banner ads on other common Android support sites; AndroidForums, XDA, Android Central, stuff like that. As far as users already on the site, you could to exclusive badges or special reputation-rewards for creative things.

@jlehenbauer Best to post that as an answer to the meta question :)

@matthew haha good call! thanks :)
do all meta questions get automatically posted here?

@jlehenbauer Yep, I added the feed a couple hours ago. StackExchange blog posts will show too. Main-site questions aren't added to the chat feed (there's so many it would just clog everything) but they show up in a little notification at the top of the page
