*Strong aspects: Comments to the author: what are the strong aspects of the paper
What to write when a paper is not offensively awful (just mildly bad), but has no aspects that could be considered strong?

@ff524 Are those reviews typical for CS. Reviews in my field are way harsher and way more in depth.

@StrongBad Every review form I've ever filled out has included a spot where I'm supposed to write the strong points of the paper. Do your review forms not?

@ff524 review forms... Nope we just write unstructured open ended rants.

@StrongBad Oh. We have a form to fill out, then space for open ended rants.

I have used phrases like: "The authors have not made it clear to the reader what are strong aspects of the work. It would help if the important elements of the work were made more distinctive for the reader..."

In the space for compliments? Yikes
Although I guess it's better than what I have come up with so far: "The paper is very readable, despite the many English errors."

@ff524 I was talking about the reviews here: cseweb.ucsd.edu/~jmcauley
I would assume a strength might be that the paper is on an interesting topic.

it was an interesting topic about five years ago, I think
