Q: Rename [tag:sexual misconduct] -> [tag:sexual conduct]

Federico PoloniI propose to rename the tag sexual-misconduct to sexual-conduct, with a redirect. This is because "misconduct" already implies a judgment that the behavior is inappropriate, and in some questions this is a premature conclusion; for instance, the question may be *Is doing X OK?". This proposal fo...

Is it pointless to ask a professor at University X if one study at University Y to supervise a master thesis( I suggest the topic )

4:59 PM
@NiclasJonsson It may not satisfy University Y's requirements, so be careful about that. You're probably better off if you have a supervisor at Y in addition to the co-supervisor at X.
Also, think about why the professor at X would want to supervise your thesis. What does he/she stand to gain from it? Potential answers include:
1. It would be co-supervision together with a professor at Y whom the one at X wants to work with
2. You are a top student who wants to pursue a PhD at X, and this is a good way to recruit you
Etc.
Supervising students from another university can be more difficult (there's more friction in the whole process) and may not be of as much professional benefit to the professor as supervising students in his own department. So you may be more successful in getting the professor from X on board if you can alleviate some of those concerns

After 2 years, it's time for a change in the profile picture. This one is certainly more representative of my real personality :-p

Nice @MassimoOrtolano :)

@ff524 With many thanks to the donkey met during today's mountain hike, who decided to pose in front of the stable's door :-)

@MassimoOrtolano Sadly, your metrology story is gone. I always like to mention it to meteorologists who complain about their profession being misunderstood by the general public (“If you think that’s bad, I vaguely know somebody who is a metrologist …”)

@Wrzlprmft Ha ha, nice! So I recovered it (thanks to the wayback machine) and it's again on my profile ;-) Actually I've seen it "cited" also on physics.SE :-)
@Wrzlprmft You can also tell meteorologists that at least "meteorologist" is a word recognized by computer's spell-checkers, while metrologist is always underlined in red...
