Q: Are different skill sets required to excel at doubles, rather than singles tennis?

For example, America's Bryan Brothers excel at doubles tennis. Yet neither of them are recognized singles champions. Do they communicate/co-ordinate better than other doubles pairs? How can a journalist find so many info and statistics about athletes during the competitions like tennis/athletics/swimming/olympic games? I think journalist can access to a database, and I would like to know if those info are available also for "normal" fans
