Now that I've mulled over the the "should we broaden the questions on-topic?" questions above, I've got a couple of thoughts...
For the couple-odd years I've been on this site, we basically have a few regulars who are experts in specific sub-sets of martial arts. Some things have overlap, and some things are just 1 or 2 people who know it. However, generally those folks give great answers within what they know.
While broadening the questions may bring more people around, you'll want to think real hard about what questions you allow, since it could easily open the floodgates to a series of bad questions. (I sometimes dip my toes into the Worldbuilding stack exchange, and the hit to miss ratio can be bad sometimes)
And along with that, the sort of random spew of bad answers to go with it.
One thing this site has really focused on, is trying to find things you can reference easily - video, written accounts, something with a little more weight than, "Well I say it", and part of that is the focus has been on physical things.
While I'm totally interested in stuff like "What were the effects of the famine & social disruption on Chinese martial arts in 1850s?" I also don't see that as being something that would be on topic here, nor likely for me to find enough people with good answers.
While I'm totally excited if we had more activity in terms of people, questions and answers, I'm thinking what we probably really want is more people who are interested in their various arts and have expertise in them, rather than folks who are experts in either academic history or philosophy around the various arts
Which is not to say there can't be overlap... but I keep thinking of all the "Chi flows through your body and gives you good karma" kind of bad answers showing up once you open those doors and we might end up with more time spent trying to police bizarro Q&A than actually what the site's focused on.
