@jonsca by how much will marijuana shorten my compile time?

Is hitting CTRL-C during a compile an example of evolution?

Q: Subtle manipulation in commercials - Kindle Fire HD

Albert RenshawI was watching the new kindle commercial and I noticed a few things that seemed to make me lean towards the NEW Kindle Fire HD (They emphasize "new" a lot) One of the things that stood out to me the second time I saw it (I was paying attention this time) was that at the end of the side-by-side c...

I agree, I slapped my vote down. I do think it's on topic, but it's just the variant of the "So, who saw something interesting in sports this weekend?"
"Don't ask about the Kindle Fire, though the Nook Color is fair game"

Thanks @JoshGitlin, I'm quite busy, but I'm sure you'll manage it. :)
Haven't seen that new layout in a while ... still loving it!
They just pushed it to all sites now or something?

Not just now, a while ago, maybe 3 weeks?
@StevenJeuris I think what I added is a good start, I asked that meta question to get more community input

@JoshGitlin agreed. marketing psychology is a huge field, but it's nearly impossible to tell the advertiser's intent post-hoc. while one could speculate about the commercial in question and provide some nice discussion related to cogsci, discussion != answer

OK, thanks @Jeff and @jonsca! Closed it is
Didn't want to jump the gun with my binding closevotehammer

hehe
the question could possibly be re-worded asking about a specific effect ("are brighter stimuli typically judged more positively than dark stimuli?") offering the commercial as incidental evidence
though as i said in my comment, i very much doubt this is the case here

11:05 PM
@Jeff I would totally reopen that

"Do dudes often unconsciously assume the chick comes with the Kindle?"

haha
no, just her hands
rest of her is sold separately

"Woman not included"

lol

"Female hands may be from cadaver, use caution around children"

11:10 PM
@Jeff Mind if I quote you in a comment on that closed question?

sure, n
np

Done, thanks!
Given some support from the community I went ahead and closed this question. After discussing it in chat, Jeff mentioned a great point: the question could possibly be re-worded asking about a specific effect ("are brighter stimuli typically judged more positively than dark stimuli?") offering the commercial as incidental evidence. If you'd be willing to rework the question along those lines Albert, I will gladly reopen. — Josh Gitlin 4 mins ago

Q: What should we list in the "Ask about..." / "Don't ask about..." section of /about?

Josh GitlinThe moderators can edit the content of the two boxes under the Get answers to practical, detailed questions section of our /about page. I just added some text to indicate that self help questions and questions seeking medical advice should not be asked. I'd love suggestions for improving the wor...

Yes, thanks @MetaCognition, it's right there in the sidebar >_>

Hello everyone.

11:24 PM
Hello @Michael. I was just heading to dinner but welcome!

Thanks josh, lol you can go ahead.
I'm just exploring

Will do. @jonsca will keep you company. But watch out, he bites sometimes. We're still training him ;-)

BOW WOW WOW
Just don't stomp on the paper bag, Josh, if you know what I mean

Lol. So, what do you all usually talk about here?

11:46 PM
@jonsca I actually do not know what you mean. Is it more interesting than my baked ziti? If not, it might not hold my attention :-)

No, it doesn't mix well with food. I'll tell you later

Oh. I know what you mean now!

Yes, I left off the part about the fire

@MichaelRodriguez This is the general chat for cogsci.stackexchange.com so when we're on topic (which is rarely) we talk about Cog Sci stuff

A key clue

11:49 PM
lol, so there are a lot of people who have met in real life here?

Nope. We don't even know Josh Gitlin's real name
