I have been suffering with long pauses/hangs when entering lines in the frontend. There was a question in the past year related to this, thought I'd bookmarked it, had not, searched to no avail. Had to do with deleting a system file (IIRC a history of commands used, for completion/hinting), which I'd done before and it fixed the issue. Anyone recall the question and/or file name?

@ciao Basically, I'm the man for slow UI issues, but I don't remember this specific one.
What I have is this question of mine which under Side notes shows how to slow down the front-end.
We have this question showing that FE doesn't respond to keys.
And the code earlier in chat also freezes my FE.

Does someone with 11.1 wants to test this dynamic Collatz visualizer? Be careful to save everything, because while in 10 it works fine, in 11.1 somehow one processor runs at 100% the whole time making the front end virtually freeze:
Unfortunately, all issues are Linux related.

On Linux, this typically happens when I either display large images or have a dynamic panel that again contains large data.

@halirutan If I don't installed the SETools?I can get your SEDecodeImageAndPrint by Import["http://halirutan.github.io/Mathematica-SE-Tools/decode.m"]

@yode You mean you want to see the implementation?

I'm interesting how to get your SEEncodeExpression in a same method

@yode You can look at the implementation on GitHub. Everything is online.
Basically, you only need this:
Better copy it from Github

@halirutan I have read your code last night, the using of alpha channel is a trick. :)

@yode It is only there to make the image nice-looking
:)
@yode Do you understand how the workflow is for the whole thing?

@OleksandrR. This might fall into your area of expertise. Do you have any ideas?

Q: Benchmarking: unexplained switching between high and low performance

SzabolcsI am trying to accurately benchmark some vectorized operations, and compare them between systems. But benchmarking is hard to do well, and I am getting inconsistent results. Here is some code that benchmarks adding two arrays of size n, where n is just above a million. The timing is measured 5...

Finally downloading 11.1. I actually had to click to see downloads for previous versions to find it. The download link it was showing me for current version was still 11.0.1. Just in case anyone else is having a similar problem.

@Szabolcs I find an amazing add-on here
I regret to know that so later..
And I have a similar demand, which is paste a List into Mathematica from Excel. But this tool can implement it?
Another question haunt me all the time, when our all Nootbook's window is minimum,Can we make the Palette float still?
Of course I know the add-on is not intent from Excel to Mathematica, but I mean, this demand can be implement?

@yode If I copy cells from Excel Online and paste them inside "" in Mathematica they get pasted as TSV.

@yode It depends on how the table get copied from the spreadsheet ... that depends on what software and what OS you use. But something seems to be wrong in M11.1. I will need to revisit this and maybe fix it.
Thanks for pointing it out!
I never used this palette with Excel BTW.
