Finding Summer Meal Sites Using the Wolfram Data Repository

10:53 AM
Hey there! We're in the process of discontinuing our communities' blogoverflow instances. So we're trying to assess which communities want to have their existing content migrated to a 3rd-party tool, and how we can help. We can offer a data dump, and maybe more, depending on what would be needed (subject to assessment, and why we're reaching out). We'd also be able to convert the blog to static pages.
So I'm reaching out to you to know if you'd like to have that content migrated, kept around, or gone, and how else we could be of assistance. Not sure who manages your community's blog, if anyone at all at this point. @J.M., @R.M., @Mr.Wizard, @Verbeia, maybe?

The example question shown in the Tour is a rather unfortunate choice. Can you change it? @mods @J.M.

@William I suppose you mean programmatically? You can check the symbol SelectionMove in the documentation, and in the posts mentioning it on MSE.

will do thank you. I have looked at SelectionMove and haven't found an obvious result yet

I see. Sorry I cannot help, I am not familiar with this symbol.

@Szabolcs Changed
@JNat @szabolcs and I "manage" the blog, but it hasn't been used in some 3 or so years :/ Just so I understand you correctly — are you discontinuing blogs entirely for graduated sites (at x.blogoverflow.com) or are you discontinuing the wordpress instances that power these sites but keeping the blog option available on a 3rd party/static site?

@R.M. We're discontinuing wordpress. We offer conversion to static pages if you want, and can provide a data dump (and try to help in the migration) if you want to move it to a 3rd party tool.

@JNat I think static pages would be fine. None of us have the time to select, customize and babysit a 3rd party tool, so this seems the simplest solution to me :)
Thanks for pinging us and for doing this! :)
@JNat Oh, I have 2 more asks, if you would be willing to share (privately is ok if you don't want to share here): 1) Would you be able to get us the traffic stats to our blog? Even better if it is by page (we don't have many). 2) Could also let us know the new procedure to get a post up to the static site?

4:39 PM
@R.M. Let me see about 1). As for 2), "static pages" essentially means "archive," so new posts would not be a possibility — migration to a 3rd party platform would be more appropriate there, and you could get Worldbuilding's help on migrating to Medium, for instance, since their blog is there and they offered to help any communities that need help. :)
What particular stats would you want? Just general hits-per-month kinda thing?

anyone around?
why doesn't this work
name = "wget";
FullForm@Hold[
  ToExpression[name][q___] := Print[name]
  ]

@JNat Thanks! So roughly around 7/day... I personally would have no qualms in shutting it down. I think the blog is a failed experiment on our site. There was a lot of initial enthusiasm when the site started (including yours truly who promised to write some N articles but have actually written 0) but it fizzled out.
Moreover, people who are interested in contributing long-form/free-style/let-me-show-you-what-I-did kind of posts do so at community.wolfram.com and we are fully in support of that (In fact, we direct some of our users there if their question isn't a good fit for us), so I think the chances of a blog revival are very slim. I certainly don't have the time or inclination in pushing for it, and I suspect most don't either.
I think the best thing to do now would be to archive it to a static page. That would allow the blog post authors time to migrate it elsewhere. If we ever revive it in the future, we can get help from Worldbuilding :)
