"bucket engineering" at its finest!
Look at the bottom photo above, I do wish I had managed to get a photo of Kel towing megatrailer out of the driveway during that house move. She went a bit fast (despite my advice) and the bump lifted her back wheel off the ground. Predictable results. Followed by this look of intense anger-and-laughter when she realised she was unhurt but looked really stupid.
 
yeah - my better half can't even shut the curtains without buggering up her shoulder more.
 
@Criggie I tend to get involved with women who are, at least initially, whole and healthy. Although, I hasten to add, most of them are still alive now. And the ones that aren't, were nothing to do with me.

I started talking with the guy downstairs riding the rollers.
he came within a nat's fart of riding off them
didn't, fortunately. What would have happened if he had?
rear wheel is doing 40+ km/h but the bike has no forward momentum
front wheel is turning too, due to a band joining 1x front and one of the two back rollers.
I guess the front will quickly stop, putting a scorch in the carpet, and the rear will bite a bit. Depends if rider is still pedaling or not
Opinion? I don't want to experiment :-/

Shoulder and hip are due to a dog attack two years ago, Hip was exagerated by a fall from a scooter when our dog took off after a cat.

mostly you just stop, coz there's no momentum in the wheel, but then you have the problem that you're doing a trackstand unexpectedly...
Better than mag/wind trainers where the failure mode is normally that the wheel stops going round coz it's wedged into the machinery. Or bits go everywhere and you lose all resistance. I've done the latter, it was survivable but my crotch barely escaped the top tube. Lockup failure was worse, I destroyed a bunch of expensive toys at a trade show.
But then, who goes to a trade show and says "put as much power in as you can, our machine will take it". I mean, it's obviously what they're selling, but bicycle trade shows are where stupidly powerful cyclists go because either they're being sponsored or because they've retired and work in the industry now.
So if you ever wanted a place to find out what happens when someone dumps 2kW into your training aid I suppose that's the place to do it. But you might also want to set the gear up so that when it fails you're not left trying to catch a 40" TV that someone just head-butted.
Always wear a helmet while training :)

I had a design for a fan that ran off the trainer, but there are a few issues with physical size and whether you really want a 90cm diameter 3 bladed fan doing 10rps in front of your face. A squirrel cage blowing up at you is probably safer :)

A squirrel is actually easier to work with because the axle runs the right way for a chain drive. Smaller is also handy. And burning 200W or more for a fan when I have 200W of me-power right there seems silly.

I've ridden off rollers a few times, not that big a deal
hard on tires, that's about it. sometimes makes a smell
one time I rode off and managed to ride 270 degrees around my office before I knew what was going on
 
HHHAHA they have a frame extension so you can get your tandem on rollers.

@alex that's magic. I want one... if I used rollers I'd buy one. And the tandem extension would probably also work for my recumbent and shopping bike. That would be hilarious, riding a long john on rollers

At some point you could just buy two sets of rollers, one for the front and one for the back axle.
Or just prop the front wheel up on a brick to get it the right height

I'd like to congratulate 99bikes.com.au for the excellence of their online shopping experience. Specifically the bit where their total doesn't match the price of the items so PayPal rejects the transaction. And the tax amount was different to the error, so it's not that. How special do you have to be to get a computer to screw up addition?
I'm curious to see whether they email me tomorrow to see if they can make the sale.

Heh, someone saying camera bikes are an example of "bikes with windscreens to go faster"... nope, camera bikes by definition don't have windscreens. By that argument perhaps windscreens make bikes slower?

windscreens are aerodynamic fairings.
 
Let me rephrase that: a windscreen is one type of fairing, yes. But they're a subset - there are fairings that are not windscreens, and it's not correct to say "all fairings are windscreens".
