@SuperScript, Did you slip a disk when you picked it up? If so then it's a BSO.
And you're not going to want to upgrade it, almost every single component is going to be of poor quality and not work right straight out the door.
Cut your losses and change for a cheaper real bike. Buying parts is, infuriatingly, more expensive than buying whole bikes.
