Q: can i use a 700c tire (Gatorskin 700c x23) on a 650 wheel

livetobikeI am thinking of getting some Velocity Rims that are 650c but I am wondering if I will be able to use my 700x23c Gatorskin tires on them? Also what do you think about 650c wheels pros and cons. Also, lets say I just buy the 650 rims do I need to change anything else in the bike? I have a Fuji N...

or, to paraphrase " I have a tyre with a wheel, I am thinking of buying a bike with a smaller wheel, will my tyre still fit?"
what amazes me is the number of non-committal answers offered. Only one so far says a straight, unambiguous "no".

Hello!
650c bikes are not very popular so most people do not know the real size difference between them

Hi @Rilakkuma, hope all is well with you. With a lot of these questions it is just amazes me, I mean it's got to be quicker to type into google than to type into stack exchange...
But that the guy is considering buying the things, you'd hope he'd know something about 'em!

Not sure why you'd go 650c to begin with
most people who do hte conversion would go 700c->650b

Well 99% of the questions are the same thing.
2 mm of clearance and something is rubbing. is that really surprising?
Not to mention that that 700 -> 650c conversion is on a bike worth about 700 dollars. A 650C wheelset will cost more than half of that (id guess 400-500 dollars). But then again, I don't know if you can get a bike which is 650B or 650C for less than the sum of those anyway.

@Batman this is what put me off setting up as a mechanic, tbh. I'm fine looking after my well-maintained bikes, but most people probably don't look after their bikes so well. And then you get the nutjob who's tried something themselves and would like you to fux it for them!
I remember I came across a plastic derailleur cage, and just thought "yuk"
I use the word nutjob in a general sense, I don't mean it to refer to the question you linked to.
