Q: Which algorithms/data structures should I "recognize" and know by name?

EarlzI'd like to consider myself a fairly experienced programmer. I've been programming for over 5 years now. My weak point though is terminology. I'm self-taught, so while I know how to program, I don't know some of the more formal aspects of computer science. So, what are practical algorithms/data s...

> answer has been modified with very objective curriculum information from the ACM cs education group. the question was originally closed because it was suspected that answers would be entirely subjective. I think the existence of a standards body for the topic in question contradicts that initial assessment. I think the question and answer has proven very valuable to the community here.
^^^ flag. does anyone else think the edit on the answer is enough to re-open this?

@Yannis maybe as a collaborative lock. And please note that at least two answers over there blatantly don't belong, and dump books / resource recommendation even though asker clearly explained that they don't ask for that. I can't vote delete because of positive score

what is the difference between an interpreted and a compiled langauge?

I don't think this is a good question for this site. You might want to ask on Programmers instead. — FUZxxl 50 secs ago

interpreted languages are processed at run time. Compiled are processed beforehand.

is there any c language chat room here ..?

@user143252 Yes, but it's part of Stack Overflow Chat, so you'll need to hit the reputation minimum on SO. I'm not sure how active it is, though.
C and C++ both have chat rooms.

3:46 PM
any short cut or backdoor or trick way to get there quickly ?

@user143252 Earn reputation on Stack Overflow. That's it.

ok , thanks

3:58 PM
in stackexchange i have 19 reputation and in stackoverflow 7 , so can i use SE repu to get in room

I don't think so.
I had way more than the minimum rep before chat even existed. I don't know what the policies/rules are.

ok :)

Unless you have a problem with the code then I'm pretty sure this is off topic for SO. You want programmers.stackexchange.com because your question is about "algorithm and data structure concepts", something that is on topic for programmers stack exchange. — Quantic 29 secs ago

anybody here ??

Of course, but if everyone "left it to the community to decide," then the front page would be swamped with off-topic questions. Oh, wait. That already happens.Robert Harvey 38 secs ago
@user143252 Someone is here. You can tell by the icons in the upper right-hand corner of the page.

i am trying to learn structure padding ... but i am facing problems .. here is the one .. may be it is related to operating system concept also
i wrote this program ...
#include<stdio.h>

struct pad{

short int a[5];

int cc;

char one;
} x;

int main()
{
int size = sizeof(x);
printf (" size %d byte",size);

x.cc = 10;
printf ("\n address of mem 1 is %d \n",&x.a);
printf (" address of mem 2 is %d \n",&x.cc);
printf (" address of mem 3 is %d \n",&x.one);
// printf (" size %d byte",size);

getch ();
}
i made two copy of this program and save as p1.c and p2.c and executed both together and ... they both giving me the same address space .. how could this possible

i posted the above question on SE programmers.stackexchange.com/questions/329651/…
