hello

jrh
hi

how's it going?

jrh
it's always good when I'm coding
how about you?

good good
I'm trying to code something in Python (I'm a bit of a novice)
and I figured the algorithm is simple enough
but it's not working for large numbers

jrh
my Python knowledge is really limited, sorry

12:38 AM
no worries
what's your language of choice?

jrh
for me, C, C#, VB.NET, and Assembly are all pretty fun
probably my favorite is C

oh cool
C# was the first language I ever learned. It's a work in progress.

I was thinking of posting a question based on this chat message chat.stackexchange.com/transcript/message/30686782#30686782 but it seems that it would be a "best practices" question about implementing an immutable list, would this be on topic for programmers or would it be in the off topic realm between stack overflow and programmers? Could I improve it by presenting it as a general question about immutable data structures somehow?

also in an unrelated note, if somebody knows of a (rather large) open source .NET repository that would serve as a good example as to how to write unit tests, I would like to read something like that. (i.e., not an example like "here's how to test a single hypothetical class", but a full, practical program (not a library) in use now). Ideally this would be a desktop application because I'm not familiar with web at all.

programmers.stackexchange.com/questions/323554/… personally I don't think I'd want to maintain two implementations of MSG_WriteDeltaEntity for the sake of getting around the "force" input github.com/id-Software/Quake-III-Arena/blob/master/code/qcommon/… , I guess you could make MSG_WriteDeltaEntityForce and MSG_WriteDeltaEntityDontForce where they just call MSG_WriteDeltaEntity with force true or false

@jrh or the don't force checks when it's not forcing and calls the force version

This question is far too broad for SO, although it might be ok for Programmers. — zzzzBov 15 secs ago

aha! 5 hours of research and inspect element and I've finally figured out how to do a little web scraping

9:07 PM
        String url = "http://www.billboard.com/charts/hot-100";
        Document document = Jsoup.connect(url).get();

        ArrayList Songs = new ArrayList();

        Elements songs = document.select(".chart-row__song");

        int songNum = 0;
        for (Element song : songs) {
            if(songNum < 10){
                songNum += 1;
                Songs.add(song.text());
            }
        }

        Elements artists = document.select(".chart-row__artist");

        int rank = 0;
It's ugly, but works. I think I'll be able to start working on my textNow API

Do programmers often spend time to move definition of objects from one file to another one? — rxu 20 secs ago
