@fossfreedom i'm hoping we can undo merges.

cant be unmerged.

jrg
i'll ask.
We can't, but an SE member can (probably).

looking at the history of the dupe

@jrg Hmm..

jorge edited it to be both on and off workspaces

9:01 PM
Leeme see.
Nope.

looking at the flag history I can see why
it was also flagged earlier that way as well.

@fossfreedom Removing the icon is not the same as enabling the feature
Esp. since it's disabled by default.

why - same difference?

jrg
@Seth is right.

@fossfreedom No it's not.
Disabling the icon leaves workspaces enabled

9:02 PM
seths answer is identical to the dupe

Enabling and disabling the whole feature is a totally different thing.

@jrg - re ... can you... I've got to pick up the wife from work now. cheers.

jrg
@fossfreedom sure, i'll do that.

when done - link the two with edits
bbl

Yeah, one asked removing just the icon while leaving workspacs on

jrg
9:06 PM
right, k

or was that another i'm remembering

@mateo_salta no you're right.

A: How do I add and remove the Workspace Switcher launcher from the Unity launcher?

fossfreedom13.04 By default, the workspace-switcher is not enabled in the Launcher. This setting is toggleable via the Appearance - Behaviour tab in System Settings Untick the option shown in the following picture to remove the workspace-switcher icon. 12.10 If you are prepared to work with just one ...

This:
> How can I remove the Workspace Switcher launcher from the Unity dock?
vs this:
> It appears that Unity on Raring only comes with a single virtual desktop (aka workspaces) by default, and CCSM's Wall plugin has no way to add more. Is this configurable at all?

Q: Proposal: weighted votes that decrease in value over time

Nathan OsmanOn Stack Overflow, we have what some might consider to be a problem. (Many will argue how much of a problem this is, but I'm fairly certain most will at least acknowledge its existence.) The problem is this: many of the older questions on Stack Overflow have answers that are either no longer app...

Now everybody go argue with me -------^

wow - radical idea!

I know :)

hmmm .... seems SO folk dont like radical ideas :/

I've seen lower voted but newer answers appear over higher voted older answers at least once, so there might be some answer rank shuffling going on as is.

9:29 PM
The accepted answer is always displayed first unless the user has answered and accepted their own answer.
The remaining answers are sorted by score.

@fossfreedom SO folk don't like anything that didn't spawn out of their own individual head.

Here is a good example

Q: Unable to mount Windows (NTFS) filesystem due to hibernation

yotamooWhenever I boot Ubuntu, I get a message that it cannot mount my windows partition, and I can choose to either wait, skip or manually mount. When I try to enter my Windows partition through Nautilus I get a message saying that this partition is hibernated and that I need to enter the file system ...

@FEichinger ouch! safe saying that here ... dont say that there.

@fossfreedom I refuse to even go there, so there's that.
@mateo_salta WEIRD CSS IN CHAT ONEBOX AGAIN!
Still can't figure out why that randomly happens.

That strange box?

9:31 PM
The box having an orange title and blue tags.

It's weird!
Okay, my oneboxes are all weird as well now.
Nathan's last one with that MSO post - normal.

What are you seeing?

Anyways there were some lower voted over higher voted on that question

jrg
9:39 PM
@FEichinger that's weird.
what browser?

@jrg Yeh. And we had that a while back already once.
Running Firefox here.

jrg
normal in my firefox conf

Not seeing the same @jrg

jrg
Build identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux i686; rv:20.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/20.0

I'm seeing some orange on Chromium.
Some black too though.

Why does this keep happening?!

jrg
someone is messin' with yo' interwebz connection!

MAKEY NO SENSEY!

Is your CSS styling set to have previously visited black instead of orange and you've already visited the link?

Stab in the dark: have you installed any UserScripts?

Or that.

@NathanOsman None that affect global styles or anything within that scope.

You never know...

Q: How to get and copy a too long output completely in terminal?

CutieKraitIn terminal a command has a too long output. But when I scroll back I see it is truncated and only the last part is shown. In Gnome-Terminal and Konsole I have this problem. In xterm there's not such problem but I cannot copy the output in xterm. How can I get the complete output?

@NathanOsman When you despise the very existence of UserScripts? Yes, you know.

9:45 PM
I once installed a UserScript that overrode one of JavaScript's string methods.

Ok I give up

It took hours and hours of debugging to figure that one out.
@FEichinger Fair enough. I'll rule that one out then.
Sidenote: I hate that MeeGo pages are showing up in search results for Qt classes.

I also get the same result with webkit, so there's that.
Now I could also swap OS and see if that changes anything, but this is just getting even weirder.

jrg
9:58 PM
@NathanOsman i sent you a gtalk message whenever you get a moment.

Sure. I'll take a peek.
GTalk isn't that great at alerting me when others start a conversation.

jrg
no worries, it's not great for me either.

jrg
10:16 PM
this is incredibly hackish. skype audio from inside a Windows VM is much better than from Ubuntu. WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE WORLD

@FEichinger: Congratulations: you found a bug.

10:39 PM
@JorgeCastro are the vagrant images considered stable?

close
betaish
given the choice between them and the typical images in the wild, I'd choose the official ones

jrg
stable enough that in 2 months when my book is finished, I can rest assured that i won't have just screwed all my readers over?
(i'd like to use the precise images for my puppet book.)
(and maybe respin them with puppet pre-installed. i'm not sure.)

10:54 PM
@NathanOsman Well, at least someone reported it already, then. I'd usually just love to know some info on how to repro before reporting.

Q: What Linux Distro contains support for Killer E2200 Ethernet chip?

Daniel ContrerasI've been very interested in switching over to a Linux based system lately. I've decided I'm going to dual boot, but my primary machine will be the Linux system. I found that Ubuntu 12.04 didn't have any support for this Ethernet chip, and I found some solutions but none worked. And it was awfull...

11:34 PM
@jrg let me check the URLs
mind if I take this to email?

jrg
i've got no problem with that
@JorgeCastro who is the appropriate person I should contact?

me
I'll CC you to the right person

jrg
chat is really only good for short answers. i've discovered that this isn't a short answer. :)

jorge@u.c

jrg
ok, i'll email you a more descriptive question.

11:37 PM
I got the jist
err, gist

jrg
urban dictionary says that is a valid word, therefore it is valid.
