Why are Ubuntu free wallpaper sites obsessed with nudity?!

@Toroidal ikr. Darn computer nerds
I'd love to give I heart wallpaper or whatever it is a go, but it's got so much of that crap that I can't :P

@Toroidal Personally I've seen no evidence of that

user136984
@ElderGeek Just put in Google Images the search term "Free Ubuntu Wallpaper" and loads come up every so often.

^ that
Well, not necessarily nudity, but suggestive posing

Huh. Interesting. Happily you can use whatever picture you want.

A: How can I view PDF bleedbox, cropbox, trimbox, etc?

Sylvain PineauI've also found the Gtumbler ppa and I think this is the only app able to display those boxes. Problem is that this ppa only contains builds for 12.04. I've been looking at both the bzr branches and the tar.gz of Gtumbler, both differ but it seems that even older the package code is more reliabl...

that is what a 500 rep bounty brings.
a completely remixed PPA
@RPiAwesomeness Because of the first Ubuntu For Humans wallpaper kit.

Dang
@jrg Did it include suggestive wallpapers?
Dang nerds.

jrg
@RPiAwesomeness Kinda.
but yes.
That's kinda where it started.
btw, if you want SFW cool wallpapers
reddit.com/r/wallpapers is a good place to start
And much of the SFW porn network is good too: reddit.com/user/kjoneslol/m/sfwpornnetwork
(it's safe for work. not-suggestive. some of them get a little icky in the gore department, but those tend to be historical battlefield pictures)

4:32 PM
demands suggestive SFW wallpapers for android tablets

Yeah...I don't think my mom would be terribly happy for me to be showing her a video project and all of a sudden have the background change to some girl diddling herself. That'd be awkward.
That's why I've never used those Love Wallpaper HD things or whatever they are

:P
@RPiAwesomeness I'm trying to develop a script that changes the wallpaper based on the wifi network i'm on, i have multiple networks at home so if I need an SFW wallpaper I connect to one net, and if I want something hot i change to another :)

@ThomasW. facepalm

Tryin to develop the same for my tablet, but thats harder since busybox >.<

I can imagine.

4:43 PM
@Seth know any way to parse out ifconfig options

@ThomasW. Hey is there like a visual walk through on getting started helping with bug control (or whatever it's called)?
@ThomasW. Not top of my head. What do you want exactly? IP?

@ThomasW. Sure, what do you need?

@Seth @terdon well, iwconfig actually - need the id of the wifi network i'm connected to

W: Operation was interrupted before it could finish
Umm, is that an issue?

@Seth Not really, the closest is the Papercuts project. But beginning bug triagers we usually suggest they start in a package they're interested in. For me that was znc, nginx, and php5-fpm (a tiny bit)
now i have my fingerprints on several additional packages :P

4:45 PM
GUILTY BY ASSOCIATION!

@RPiAwesomeness "The Brightest Day" for my SFW network, "The Darkest Night" for my 'not so safe' network. Same VLAN, different IDs.
>:)

also got a guest network, 'DarkGuest', its got 56k of bandwidth to use
shared across whoever is on it
*laughs evilly*

@ThomasW. So no like ubuntu on air walk-throughs? I've read the wiki a couple of times but I'm still not sure exactly how it works.

@ThomasW. Sounds like my home network :P
80 kb/s if you're the only on :P
Ah well.

4:47 PM
@Seth Each bug is different, there's no walkthrough for triage. As I said, start with the Hundred Papercuts project.

@ThomasW. I'm on a desktop and a wired connection at the moment. Could you show me your output?

There is actually a local company laying Fiber near us...now to convince my parents...

@Seth That project is run by someone trying to 'simplify' triage but going the wrong direction with ot to some extent

@ElderGeek: thanks! :)

@terdon I'm only on wifi here, you want ifconfig or iwconfig?

4:48 PM
I think you want something like `iwconfig | grep -P 'ESSID:\K\S+'

@terdon the next question: does it work on Androids :)

@ThomasW. Whichever you plan to parse.

Yeah I know each bug is different, I'm just the kind of person who learns by seeing someone else do it a few times first. I can figure it out without, it's just easier. Thanks!

@ThomasW. Ah, no. But that I can check. Hang on.

@terdon the lovely thing about a rooted android is busybox :)

user136984
4:49 PM
Is there any way to make DropBox (which I run through Terminal) to give me the output of how it is going and what it is currently doing etc, in Terminal? :)

@ThomasW. Yeah, couldn't get it to install on mine.
Still, that should give you basic awk and sed. No perl I assume.

That moment when you go through your money sorting envelopes and find an extra $7 you had forgot about.

@terdon you have to root the device to get busybox on
but we'll test

@ThomasW. I have. It gave some error or other, didn't spend much time on it.
Try iwconfig | grep '^wlan0' | sed 's/.*://'

@terdon bleh, no iwconfig on the android tablets >.<
oh well

4:51 PM
@ThomasW. Ah, yes, OK. I thought yours was different, I just tried on mine :)

% iwconfig | grep -P 'ESSID:\K\S+'
tun0      no wireless extensions.

vmnet8    no wireless extensions.

eth0      no wireless extensions.

lo        no wireless extensions.

vmnet1    no wireless extensions.

wlan0     IEEE 802.11bgn  ESSID:"psu"
yeah i have quite a few additional things :P
% iwconfig | grep '^wlan0' | sed 's/.*://'
tun0      no wireless extensions.

vmnet8    no wireless extensions.

eth0      no wireless extensions.

lo        no wireless extensions.

vmnet1    no wireless extensions.

"psu"
close
ah got it
iwconfig wlan0 | grep '^wlan0' | sed 's/.*://'

@ThomasW. Yes, as I said though, that will leave you with the quotes. Use this to remove them:
iwconfig wlan0 | grep '^wlan0' | sed 's/.*:"([^"]*)".*/\1/'

error
% iwconfig wlan0 | grep '^wlan0' | sed 's/.*:"([^"]*).*/\1/'
sed: -e expression #1, char 19: invalid reference \1 on `s' command's RHS

@fossfreedom I don't have any other software that needs wine, so I wouldn't care if it got damaged. I'm just upgrading to 1.7beta. Some version of winetricks should already be installed, but I have no idea how to use it. Btw sorry for answering after that long time, I had to do some urgent school work... :(

from memory type winetricks in a terminal - then you can tick box extra stuff to install

4:57 PM
@ByteCommander FWIW i use the latest development version of Wine when they release new dev versions... wine-1.7.34 is what I run
@fossfreedom winetricks opens a GUI, don't think it likes the terminal

@ThomasW. Now me too. Just finished install.

random question: anyone know how I can change the wallpaper by a script

@ThomasW. yep - not disagreeing with you - just type winetricks to launch the gui

@fossfreedom alt+f2 does the same. Unless you're me, and have 4 wineprefixes
then you need commandlinefu

Now I'm running msiexec /i ~/Downloads/CASSY/cassylab2_de.msi
(oops, wrong content in clipboard...)

5:00 PM
Ooo, counting my money is so much fun.

@ByteCommander one recommendation: use full paths - ran into this myself with some installers

The tiny bits of it that I have

fixme:ntdll:NtLockFile I/O completion on lock not implemented yet

@Toroidal Bingoooo

But it finally opens a setup window! Great for now! :D

Now, to decide. Do I use the $100 I'm saving to buy the ATH M40X headphones, or use it to get the SuperLux HD 668B headphones & the AT2005USB microphone.

@RPiAwesomeness You do neither and give me $100

5:02 PM
Seems to be installed. How to launch it now?

@ThomasW. Eh, the shipping costs would be too much :P

@ByteCommander either search for it in the dash, or navigate to its location in command line and run it with wine

Ah, found it in dash. What would it be in cli?

1 min ago, by Thomas W.
@ByteCommander either search for it in the dash, or navigate to its location in command line and run it with wine
reread the part after the comma
whatever installation directory you installed to, is in ~/.wine/drive_c/... most likely
so you'd have to go find it

That path what was I needed. Thx!

5:05 PM
and don't forget to escape spaces!
~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files is actually ~/.wine/drive_c/Program\ Files

or if you know the windows path just do wine "c:\program files\xyz.exe"

Yo, did that.

@fossfreedom or wine "c:\..."

yeah that

5:06 PM
What y'all think?
Should I change it at all?

@RPiAwesomeness Needs more Ubuntu

But launching from dash just gives the rotating cursor and nothing else.

Should I include the motto, or just go without it?

Terminal gives some weird error:
Unhandled Exception:
System.InvalidProgramException: Invalid IL code in .:Ž (uint): IL_000c: box 0x0200049b

bytecommander@MaxData-Laptop:~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/LD DIDACTIC/CASSYLab2

Non motto version seems a bit weird

5:08 PM
@fossfreedom or @ThomasW. Can this be because of missing .NET?
I know it needs MS .NET Framework.
But not whether or how it is installed. You know?

@ThomasW. sorry, my internet died and the chat seems to have eaten my escapes. This is the command you wanted:
iwconfig wlan0 | grep '^wlan0' | sed 's/.*:"\([^"]*).*/\1/'

wine 1.7 does have some parts of .net installed - not all. you can always install .net from winetricks

You should be able to do this using the ip command in android but I have yet to take the time to learn it.

@ByteCommander you'll have to install .net from winetricks, unfortunately

@RPiAwesomeness: Give the 100$ to dad towards a better internet! :P

5:11 PM
@Fabby :P ikr

@terdon more failures

He himself has said he wouldn't mind better internet, but he's just so busy :P

@ThomasW. How? I can't find it.

% iwconfig wlan0 | grep '^wlan0' | sed 's/.*:"\([^"]*).*/\1/'
sed: -e expression #1, char 20: Unmatched ( or \(

@Fabby I really need to offer to handle it for him...

5:11 PM
Sorry, but I never had to use it until now...

@ThomasW. Dammit! Both parentheses need to be escaped:

Dangit, typing too fast for my own good again

iwconfig wlan0 | grep '^wlan0' | sed 's/.*:"\([^"]*\).*/\1/'

Q: Installing .NET 4.0 Framework on Wine using Winetricks

Gökhan KayaI use Xubuntu 12.04 and I installed Wine 1.4. I am now trying to install the .NET 4.0 Framework using Winetricks. I use this command sudo sh winetricks dotnet40 But I get this error wine cmd.exe / c echo '% ProgramFiles%' returned empty string I get this error when I try to install other pr...

but you need to use the version of the framework the app needs
so if it needs 2.1 you have to go hunting
i forget all the winetricks stuff :)

Dunno. I'll just try this one.

5:12 PM
@terdon that worked! :)
@terdon now to beat ip with a hammer

Thank you, I'll tell you when I got any further (or not)...

I so want to get one of these and one of these (and plenty other stuff)

@RPiAwesomeness: on Sunday-morning, at breakfast 'which you're going to cook) slam the 100$ on the table and ask his credit card and tell him you'll handle it for him!

But #InternationalShipping
@Fabby lol, good idea
DAGNABIT! I can't decide on the best design for my Ubuntu t-shirt :P

It said "dotnet40 does not yet fully work or install on wine. Caveat emptor.
" but it downloads something big...
Now there are some splash screens and the setup...

5:16 PM
@ByteCommander Well, you need the .net for that software - 4.0 is latest but it might not be what you need, so you need to read the requirements for the software you're using
@terdon no way to get essid from ip apparently :/
oh well

Damn! Installation successful, but launching cassylab again from terminal, it prints:
fixme:heap:RtlSetHeapInformation (nil) 1 (nil) 0 stub
fixme:process:SetProcessDEPPolicy (1): stub
fixme:heap:RtlSetHeapInformation (nil) 1 (nil) 0 stub
fixme:process:SetProcessShutdownParameters (00000380, 00000000): partial stub.

that's not unexpected

And inside wine I get a message window telling it doesn't find the .net runtime

@ByteCommander does it say the one you need?
Screenshot the window

No, I have to look

5:20 PM
@ThomasW. Well, ip addr show should show the ESSID but it doesn't. The output is very much like iwconfig but no ESSID

indeed

user136984
@Fabby: I was very happy when I went to that James Kayla guy's profile and saw that his rep has been set back to 1, and that it said: "This account is temporarily suspended for rule violations. The suspension period ends on Feb 11 at 21:32."! >:)

@Toroidal Is that the cake guy?

user136984
@terdon Yeah! :D

5:25 PM
Good. 'bought time

Aye
You can buy time? Cool! :P

definitely getting that one
It's so cute and tiny!

@RPiAwesomeness Yeah, just what I've always needed, a t-shirt with a bull's eye!

:)
The design looks so much better in my sketches than on the actual shirt :P

Well, at least shift the logo so it lies over your heart.

5:29 PM
@ThomasW. Can't find it. But seems to be released march 2011

Or liver. Or duodenum or whichever bit of you you'd like the sniper to aim for :)

@ThomasW. And somewhere inside a SDK xml file, it tells about a workaround for some missing function in .NET 2 without SP1. Helps this?
Anybody knows how I can tell my win app to find the installed .NET Framework 4.0????
@fossfreedom or @ThomasW. help please? I need to run this for school...
I also maybe could use this open source alternative: sourceforge.net/projects/ghmessen2
But what do I have to do to install it???
add apt-repository? or download something - what? Please help me!
@Fabby you know something?

5:50 PM
@toroidal: Great! >:)

Ah, hi Fabby. Need some help with getting a tricky win app to run...

@ByteCommander: I'm in the kitchen cooking... What do you need (you've got 5 mintes)

Oh, sorry
I have installed a prog that uses USB sensors to measure something.
It's for win

Don't run it under wine!
Ah!

I got to install it in wine and also install dotnet40
but It says it could not find the dotnet runtime
see screenshot some lines above

5:52 PM
@ByteCommander I have to run a lot of windows programs for school. I caved and put Win8 in a VM just for those things that Wine hates.
you could get away with a win7 VM too

Or a dual boot!
I've got Win10 in dual boot...

Now I either have to tell CASSYlab it should use the dotnet installed,

*throws @Fabby into Hell *

(never use it, but... it's there!)

or get the Open source alternative

5:53 PM
GHMessen is for Suse...

@ByteCommander you have to install the .NET framework it needs

@Fabby HOW DARE THOUGH DESECRATE THY UBUNTU HARD DRIVE!

that's a completely different family, and source code anoy...

I've got it in Vbox

VM will not work (machine too weak)

5:54 PM
@ByteCommander reverse compatibility is not Microsoft programming framework's forte

@RPiAwesomeness: (finger)

and dualboot: only have XP and doesnt work because of corrupted graphics card

who here doesn't know me and what I am. (even though its listed on my Ask Ubuntu profile and my Launchpad profile in plain sight)

What is with these files? They seem to be for some Ubuntu version from GHMessen: download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/fschuett/xUbuntu_14.04

5:55 PM
well that thar's a debian repo
debian packages!

So what can/should I do to get that (32bit 14.10)

No rpm for GHMessen...

5:57 PM
And what to do now with those debs? I would prefer terminal and apt...

@ByteCommander download them, sudo dpkg -i /path/to/folder/with/the/downloaded/debs/*.deb, figure out the deps you need and sudo apt-get install them, then reinstall the debs with the first command

an .rmp file can be converted to a .deb file

@ByteCommander patience, mortal, it takes TIME TO WRITE
@Fabby irrelevant if the debs already exist, timewaster.

Hey, I was in another tab!

@ThomasW. Hey, sorry. ;)

5:58 PM
I think my Android Tablet has been invaded by MLP...

@ThomasW.: You're right (this time...)
:P
Back to the chicken!

@Fabby You should have a quick look on your food maybe..., before it gets a job for [SmokeDetector] ;D

@ByteCommander Don't you mean a job as [HellFireInProgress]
or my favorite [SourceOfMysteriousHallucinogenicBlueSmoke]

Who cares... But how do I know which debs to get? All of them????

@ByteCommander well, that's where you have to research it. Or just download them all
Ultimately, unless it says which ones you need, you have to guess

6:00 PM
How should I research this? The names all sound like asbkcbksdvbansbv to me... :(

random guess: ghmessen_0.9.7.git.1420751453.1cccb07_i386.deb or ghmessen-beta_0.9.8.git.1421777696.83101e5_i386.deb
@ByteCommander where did you find the link there
was there a thread or something on a forum or such?

Copied from there: sourceforge.net/projects/ghmessen2 (just plain text, no link)
Last line of "Description" paragraph

probably that first one I just said - but if it needs dependencies then you'll have to hunt them
... I feel dirty with this picture on my tablet's screen, and I have no idea what set it >.<

gosh dangit. 2048 is so addicting

@RPiAwesomeness so THAT'S where yo uwent off to
shame on you!
in other news i have even MORE USB Flash Drives than before >.<
totally got even more now. note the hard drive above it there
>.<

6:18 PM
xD

at least its organized

hmmm... still hunting dependencies... >:/

you do not hunt dependencies you solve them

Can you tell me how to get this package packages.debian.org/jessie/libjna-java ?
I have an older version installed, but my app requires at least 4.0.1
Oh, it is called libjna-java by the way...
@ThomasW. or @Rinzwind maybe...? What ppa or whatever do I have to include or what must I download to install it manually?

6:33 PM
moment; eating dinner :-D

Oh, sorry for disturbing you. But why do you look at this at all while eating??

because I was not eating dinner at that time

ok :)

this one?
http://packages.ubuntu.com/utopic/amd64/libjna-java/download
oh wait the 4 version ?
no idea if you can download and install it :D
@ByteCommander boo ^

Having trouble deciding what to do here. The "nitroshare" repository is for the desktop application and I'm planning an Android + Ubuntu Touch version as well. Should I rename "nitroshare" to "desktop"?

6:42 PM
@Rinzwind Sorry, just found it out by myself.

tsk!

and installed it with dpkg -i /path/to/file.deb

@ByteCommander I'd take the Ubuntu version... never know it there is a difference :P

after that I installed my app (once again)...
and just launched it for the first time!!! =D

@NathanOsman nitrosharedroid?

6:44 PM
Er, no.

lol
no idea what to do there nathan :D what you want I agree on ;-)

But thank you all (Rinzwind, Fabby, fossfreedom and ThomasW.) for your help!!! :)

np! :)

However, I still would like to get the manufacturer's Windows app running in wine with dotnet...
But at least I can start working now!

@ByteCommander: I was just in time for the food! ;-)
@ThomasW. Have you got a USB with built-in fingerprintreader too?
@Rinzwind: So what did you have today?
Here it was Roasted chicken, Rocket&coriander sauce, Pasta in the oven...

6:56 PM
@Fabby And I just got my alternative app working :)

Mmmmm, you always make me jealous ;P

@NathanOsman: why not NitroShare.Desktop? (for those who link directly)

Btw, I just earned my first silver badge! Another YAY!! =D

6:59 PM
@Fabby Well, the URL currently looks like this: https://github.com/nitroshare/nitroshare

And now I'm off for supper too. just nothing that special like you had, Fabby :( Bye folks!

@Seth: Does "yay" mean "good" or "bad"? (nu clue)

@Fabby The dictionary will explain it better than I could ;) google.com/?gws_rd=ssl#q=define+yay
So it means good.

@NathanOsman: somebody wise once told me: You've got to tell them that you're going to tell, then you have to tell them and then you've got to tell them that you've told them and then only 87.5% of people will have understood!
:D Thanks! (I wouldn't have guessed it to be in there, that's why I asked... To me it sounded like "yikes" but evidently, I've learned something else today!) ;-)
@NathanOsman: So I would still make it NitroShare.Desktop and if someone asks why, give them the little bit of wisdom above (I've had been in the army and I know what dumb is!)

@NathanOsman hm /nitroshare/desktop and /nitroshare/android might work, renaming it. that sounds good to me

7:07 PM
@Fabby i wish - too expensive and not FIPS-140-2 Level 3 validated

@Mateo Okay.

.desktop might be confusing with the .desktop files

It confused me at first glace.

I also wondered about /nitroshare/nitroshare-desktop.
Then we'd have /nitroshare/nitroshare-android too.

@NathanOsman You could make Nitroshare an organization or similar and then make individual repos (like Nitroshare for Android or whatever) within that org.

7:09 PM
@Seth I've done that.

isn't that what he has with this github.com/nitroshare

oh ok.

@NathanOsman that would be awesome if the branches also had nitroshare in the names - nitroshare-dev on /nitroshare/nitroshare

Why the branches?

7:12 PM
that was a joke :)

Oh :P

All the things named NitroShare!

There, renamed.

@ThomasW.: I once got a prototype when I was working at Siemens and the Engineer was really proud of it and liked my enthusiasm about it, so he gave me one...
After 10 minutes I was back and asked: How do I off boot of this thing? It doesn't seem to recognize my fingerprint...
*Horrified look:* "It only works under Windows!"
So I shook my head and gave it back to him! >:)

Now I have to recreate the branch on Launchpad.

7:20 PM
@NathanOsman: /nitroshare/nitroshare-desktop !!! :-)
Oh.. Done already... (Back from food, reading from the top what I've missed)

Okay guys, final decision time. With Ubuntu motto or without?

7:37 PM
@Seth: Who should I <strike>rant</strike> talk to if I disagree with a test I failed in the review queue? >:) ;-)

Does that even really penalize you? I mean, you'd have to fail several fairly quickly to get an actual penalty

@Fabby Link?
@RPiAwesomeness The system keeps track of failed x audits within y days and if it hits a certain value z then you get a review ban.
Otherwise audits are of no consequence.
They aren't something you should be greatly worried about and there isn't anything I can do about not so good ones except (if it's really bad) get a CM to manually remove it.

@Seth Ah
Well...I'm installing OS X Yosemite! EEK!
HACKINTOSH HERE WE COME!

7:53 PM
O_o

5 mins remaining....
1 minute....
DONE!

It was all in Dutch, all correct, I verified that it was a test >:)
then hit the "edit" button, because I could have translated everything and made it a valid answer...
So this test should be removed, as it's a bad test... (IMNSHO)
(but I'll bow to your wiser and more experienced decision) ;-)
Anyways, off to brush my teeth and going to bed!
Good night, guys!

user136984
@Fabby Goodnight! :)

9:03 PM
Well. This has gone badly
BIOS is incredibly slow, Ubuntu no longer has USB. My life sucks right now :P

Wait - what do you mean Ubuntu no longer has USB?

@RPiAwesomeness: vanilla or some 'distro'?

@NathanOsman It flat out can't use USB. No response.
Something got messed up by installing OS X. The LiveUSB works fine, but not Ubuntu as installed.

That's wierd

@JourneymanGeek I know.

9:09 PM
time for a reinstall? ;p

@JourneymanGeek I'd rather not :(

@RPiAwesomeness: reinstalls build charecter!

@JourneymanGeek Yeah, but with my internet it takes so long to download everything I've done so far :(
Is there a certain file I can find to see what's causing this issue?

hmm. /var/log/syslog and dmesg?

But from the LiveUSB?

9:20 PM

I can dmesg it?

RCGI'm trying to setup QoS in my VPS so that I can have any new outbound connection to a unique IP gets limited x speed. For instance: have 5 public IP's requesting data from my VPS. When the VPS sends data back to each of those IP's, each IP gets 10mbps dedicated outbound bandwidth speed. Never ...

(sorry, distracted. Trying to understand why WOL doesn't work)
More generally, whether its a specific system. I may be getting an old, reasonably powerful system from work, and am pondering setting it up so I can just fire it up as needed

Well, I've got USB back. That's good.
I think my PC just needed a break from all the reboots

I once remember an old PC that was powered off and on too quickly which caused the hard drive to start spewing errors and refuse to boot Windows.
That was back in the days of Windows 98 - when computers had to physically be powered off.

@NathanOsman I'd had this issue before :)
