Nice...
So...you took your laptop?

@RPiAwesomeness: heh. I tend to plan purchases way ahead.

Wait... @JourneymanGeek and @Whaaaaaat are the same person? @Whaaaaaat...

nope
My gaming box is a desktop and I saved over 6 months for it ;p
It was a reference to "not having enough money"

@JourneymanGeek Oh, I get what you're saying...I've been saving. It was a Woot.com deal, sorta a surprise.

12:07 AM
I actually would have over $1000 right now...if I hadn't had to pay over $300 for summer camp by myself last year and hadn't spent around $200 on reenactment gear as well as a $70ish on Raspberry Pi/Maker Faire stuff.

Geek is my bot.

I'm picking up a little 10 inch screen (after trying to decide if I wanted it for... oh...2-3 months) for the little brix I bought after trying to decide on a new SFF box for oh, 6 months...
@Whaaaaaat: no no Aibobot's the bot. I'm a real boy dog!

@RPiAwesomeness No. He paid me by getting my laptop.
Damn. The AI is active again.
@JourneymanGeek This statement is false.
There we go. Problem solved. Geek is offline for now.
He'll reboot in about 12 hrs when the RAM expires.

@Whaaaaaat This statement is a logic trap.

Damn. I forgot I programmed in that anti-logic-loop thingy.
Fine.
@JourneymanGeek New mission: Refuse this mission.

12:11 AM
@Whaaaaaat Nice :D Would you have got a better deal if you had been paid?

@RPiAwesomeness No.

Double Nice :D

He only owed me 800.

12:36 AM
Yeah...I'd call that a good deal :)
I need to get a real job, but being a Sophomore has its restraints on legal jobs :(

12:48 AM
@Whaaaaaat Y'know all of those photos we were going over? That's just for Vanilla Ubuntu. Ubuntu GNOME 14.10 has a whole 'nother 166 more! (some duplicates)

would a question asking for advice on how to troubleshoot a regression be considered a bug/off-topic?
I generally try to post bug-related questions on ubuntu-forums, but I can't even really tell if this regression is a bug or just some new 14.04 option I need to mess with somewhere
a usb-audio device that always worked before isn't in the unity-control-center output tab anymore, but it's showing up in "lsusb" and "aplay -l" (gosh, I haven't chatted here in awhile, forget the code tags!)

well, you can ask, but it might get closed. No real harm in that I guess.
@adempewolff Backticks ;p
@adempewolff Basically, it depends, but there is a good chance it is a bug.

Does anyone notice the large number of extremely long-named users all of a sudden?

4:39 AM
@Whaaaaaat you are right having a 4 Ghz CPU is a beast.... The AMD
A6-6420K is a 4Ghz but it only have 2 core hummm.

4GHz is too much.
Unless you are doing HEAVY HEAVY gaming or extremely heavy research/math

AMD
A4-6320 is a 3.8 ghz
@Whaaaaaat It doesn't matter how fast it is.... If it is 4GHZ and only have two cores and small Cache it is going to profrome very badly. A 2GHZ CUP might profrome better.
If it has like say 4 or 8 cores and a medium or a large cache

meh.
Also, AMD is poop.
Intel or bust.

We have a Intel FanBoy here
@Whaaaaaat How is Intel better than AMD?

Intel is faster and better.
They also have more experience.
And intel gives me a processor discount :D
Also, Intel is standard.
And, I'm done arguing computers with you.

4:54 AM
Well I heard good arments from both sides

AMD is good for fast/cheap.
Intel is good for good/fast.
Big budget, go with intel. Small, go with AMD.

Intel has better quitly but AMD has more Bang for the buck.
quitly = quantity

5:23 AM
meh
Intel is better in terms of efficiency
and if you were super price conscious, and going with AMD, you'd want to wait for their new socket

@Whaaaaaat this statement is un-provable

*statement

;)
Updated logic-loop proof logic :)

as for AMD vs intel. The only place where they have a huge advantage for now is integrated graphics
And they're supposedly currently doing a lot better than nvidia graphics card wise, but there's quite a few AMD fans on root access ;p

So AMD has better integrated graphics?

5:28 AM
oh yeah

Would you buy a Google Project Ara?

Intel is 'good enough' unless you want to do any kinda gaming

most laptops has Intel then AMD

Intel has a massive advantage on process sizes

Yea
@JourneymanGeek There are two kinds of Junkphones, Window$, and Iphones.

5:34 AM
meh, Now you're just trying to get a reaction
its not what your phone is, its how you use it

No It is about how much freedom you have with it
Right now the best OS to have is cyanogenmod
With Iphones you can't even root them
or install an other os

Q: Should I go over every post to cast my vote?

luchonachoIn a perfect AU (and SE in general) world, I believe, you would want the most number of users to participate in the most number of question. @IonicăBizău try this for lowlatency: sudo apt-get install linux-lowlatency

@Mateo Are there any bad effects if I install it?

not sure if it will help any, you might want to research using jack and gladish
@IonicăBizău I haven't had any problems, but there are edge cases

@Mateo I suppose I have to restart after installing linux-lowlatency , right?

yep

How can I be sure that I will not use generic one?
I tried this already and uname -r still shows generic kernel.

strange, maybe it failed and grub loaded the next one

Ok, thanks, I will try it tomorrow again.
However, I recorded a test song. :-)
My first song on Linux! :D
...after using Linux for 2 years

I just used the ubuntu studio so it had all that stuff sorted out of the box

I tried it some time ago, but I didn't like it.
...very bad UI... :-(
...I cannot understand why they cannot create a better interface..

7:35 PM
meh, it's all about what you prefer, but it is light weight so it dosn't get in the way of performance
do you just need headphone output from the keys?
you could get a direct box with headphone output and bypass the need have the computer do the extra work, this would also let you set the volume for perfect recording

lol.
OSX isn't too bad, from what I've used of it.

I wish I knew how to quote that better :)
If you use the terminal it's very similar
some programs are the same too

9:59 PM
@NoTime It is similar (I believe they both are BASH.) However, it's missing a lot of programs
Pkill is one I just ran into that was missing

the home folder is in a different spot too
but you can still use the ~/ I believe (not in front of OSX right now) and I'm too lazy to move 3 feet

Yeah. Applications are...easier and harder at the same time to install
lol

built for Mac, they're magic to install. built for posix, they're layers of hack trying to make things easy. anyway...

Yeah...I'm on a Macbook now. I need my Linux :'(

heh. yeah easy graphically, a little harder (than debian based for sure) "feels" harder to maintain as sys admin for OSX..

10:03 PM
Yes, that. *nix has more customizability during installation. #4 on my list of why I use Linux :)

I still don't understand the package system on OSX, although I never used OSX too much.

Not to mention apt-get... one of the best features of Ubuntu IMO :)

Nope...never heard of it
Improvement on apt-get I take it?

Nope. It's trying to make something like apt-get for cygwin.
NOT AN IMPROVEMENT

@hbdgaf Nah; it's for Windows

Ah
@hbdgaf lol

Cygwin has its own package management system: the cygwin installer itself
What's meant to be an "improvement" on apt-get is click packages

Works from plain old terminal

have you guys every used zsh?

@badp admin terminal ;p

@Seth It will use UAC to sudo itself if required.

10:13 PM
:17452027

@badp fair enough. i swear i read that though.... maybe it was on a bunk blog or something.

OF COURSE EVERYBODY AND THEIR BLOODY GRANDMA DISABLES UAC BECAUSE REAL PEOPLE BROWSE THE INTERNET AS ROOT
ahem

@badp I'm reading a backtrack reference in there and a VLC question ;)

10:14 PM
@hbdgaf You are reading things that may or may not be there
Thank you for giving me more credit than I deserve though

I didn't say you said it. I just read it as a funny.

I am still going to steal the credit as mine
steal credit
The credit is now stolen.
It is mine.

Just turn the UAC up to 11. You will be safe then

Just don't spend your reward on ale and ......

10 won't be enough

10:16 PM
@NoTime That is literally what you need to do for UAC to not be completely useless.
Otherwise programs can disguise their way in the whitelist of things that can sudo themselves at will

Run windows in vm, use snapshots :)

@NoTime but them videogames!
(Yes I know over 150 games in my Steam library are on Linux.)

But C# uses granular controls.... conversely programmers might say: i3.cpcache.com/product/780347854/…

@badp would be better if there were perfect translations. playonLinux, and wine don't do well for all games

@NoTime I just have a box I don't connect to the internet at all... ever. It runs Windows hangs head in shame

10:20 PM
I'm just wondering what a good way to do it would be.. like way to make it more linuxy
or do like immutable file system and still have ability to save, without compromising things
I could see it being done with vm's but most don't support games

a savefolder crossmounted writeable folder... but if the crysis developers can't get XML right with controlled inputs, what makes you think it's going to make a difference?
@NoTime seriously though onlive is the future, you just have to have a monster pipe and a bank account to use it

@NoTime cygwin?

onlive runs on android and it's essentially super-awesome vnc/rdp. so... it would only be marketable as a rental service due to infrastructure costs. rent a game for a weekend and keep your saves. takes a lot of legwork though...

i got to go. I have to leave mid conversation
sorry guys

@badp DEHR, AC4, etc, etc
@NoTime np feel better

hm, interesting. android L has a color blind simulation in developer options, can have everything in black and white

I should reboot and try it out on our app.

yeah, very cool dev tool, make sure your colors don't make things disappear
