Q: How do I upgrade from 14.04 LTS server to 16.04.1?

I know some Spanish, but Portuguese is just different enough that I can't fully understand it :p

the accentuation is meant to tell you what is the tonic (strong pronuntiation) syllable

so it's just an accent mark?

but the tonic syllable can have different sounds, like á is an open a, ã sounds a little more nasal

and â sounds a little closed

américa -> the "mé" is the strong syllable, and should be pronounced a little opened

like 'amErica', your mouth would open as you pronouce the E

zachereejuan you are interested in learning Portuguese?

what about amêrica?

but 'anão' for example, the 'não' is the strong syllable, but you pronouce it with a little nasal entonation

@edwinksl J's aren't H's in Portuguese. That much I think I know

'amêrica' would have a strong E but pronouced with a more closed entonation (like you would be saying 'u' but saying 'e')

like, 'a' can be an article (like 'the') and can have the meaning of 'to'

for example

same in Spanish, that one

I sent the letter to her'

'a' is both an article (on 'a carta' - 'the letter')

that's annoying :p

and a preposition
'a ela' - 'to her'

when they appear together, one after another, you use the backtick

the prep is in Spanish, the article is la in es

chinese pronouciation is quite hard, I think way harder than portuguese

the same word can have like 4 meanings depending of how you pronounce it

@IanC Portuguese seems like a Spanish/French hybrid to me :p

they all derive from latin, I think it's closer to spanish than french though

but still really different, it's just similar so if you put a spanish speaker and a portuguese speaker they can sort of understand each other haha

well like I said, I can probably make my way through some simpler Portuguese stuff

but if you put a french speaker and a portuguese speaker, they won't really understand each other

german is a bit hard too

in english you have one article ('the' for every gender), in portuguese you have 2 ('a' and 'o', one for each gender) and in german you have 3 ('der', 'die' and 'das')

'das' would be the neutral, 'der' masculine and 'die' feminine

I learned some German

but then you have 'das fraulein' (the miss)

teacher was terrible though

but I know some stuff

I know a bit too, but forgot a lot of things
