I'm watching the 1967 Jungle Book

@TheBrownOne only the best :p
How about the 2003 Jungle Book 2?

I like the 1994 The Jungle Book, tbh.

Wait what

Is that the Cary Elwes one? That's a good one.

79% on Rotten Tomatoes. Not bad

12:19 AM
yep

what about 2015/2016 jungle book?
@Fabby +1

Haven't seen it yet

@chaskes yup

anyone seen "The Man Who Knew Infinity"?

nope
looks good

@chaskes That's what I'm trying to find out. It looks like one of those movies I would actually go see. btw, did the guy here look like Richard Dean Anderson to you too, or am I just being silly? youtu.be/oXGm9Vlfx4w?t=2m14s

Jeremy Irons or Stephen Fry?

You're always being silly @Seth

1:12 AM
Actually Jeremy Irons does look like Richard Dean Anderson there

@chaskes Jeremy Irons.

that was a joke... :)

I know, I got it xD

oops

no, my bad for not playing along :p
but really, I've taken like 10 takes and it looks like Richard every time.

1:14 AM
yeah, I watched it once and thought, meh, than on the 2nd run thru it really looked like him
who is Irons playing? Is it GB Hardy?

I think so

Is this OT or can gparted from a live do this for him? askubuntu.com/questions/778867/…
I keep starting GB Hardy's (short) memoir and then not getting thru it

that's on-topic as long as he is doing it from ubuntu

that's what I meant. he has to do it thru live media so it gparted (or another tool) can't do it, it becomes OT. In any case, I'll wait for an answer.
It'll also be interesting to see if it gets quick close votes w/o people seeing the point.

@chaskes ubuntu liveCD can, so that's the answer.

1:27 AM
thx. I'll let someone else answer it though. Just wasn't sure if gparted (or something) could handle the file formtat

I just checked.

1:40 AM
there, I answered it.

Cool. your good answer is exactly why I didn't answer it. Just didn't feel like explaining burning isos and using gparted right now. And I'm getting tired of seeing quickies answers like "Use gparted from live media"

2:04 AM
@ThomasW. I ended up the maintainer of another package :)
NitroShare will be using it.
This time it's a Qt library that provides classes for an HTTP server.

@NathanOsman Will it be time for a question cleaning thing soon?

Question cleaning thing?

Don't you have a script/site where we clean out/answer/close old questions en masse once a year or so?

No, that was... @Oli I think?
He had a website that coordinated with a UserScript for doing that... IIRC.

Oh, ok, thanks. I've thought for years it was your thing.

2:08 AM
It was a few years back, so my memory is a tad hazy.

I saw it twice, so I assumed it was sort of regular.

How do I specify where wget saves a file?
or can I just cd?

I thought that was a mocking emoticon at first, and then I realized it was an option

Need delete votes on this. OP clearly doesn't want to delete it for some reason, but it doesn't answer the question as he's got a different version on which it does work, plus there is already another working answer.

@NathanOsman egad you keep getting more and more packages :/

I really love that Iron Maiden The Final Frontier album! It is just so great! :D

user136984
All Iron Maiden greatness mixed with proper heavy metal! :)

Because before, they were loud, but before the Brave New World album, the metal wasn't so heavy.

I'm asking if there is a known workaround and what package I report it under, that's allowed, isn't it?

Where is the upgrade log stored?

user136984
I mean the upgrade log recording the output from a 15.10 to 16.04 upgrade... Seem to have some problems and need to check it.

check in /var/log/dist-upgrade

user136984
I looked there, but not sure which one is the right one...

user136984
There was a problem with dkms registering the new kernel.

user136984
So I need a little more than just an installation log.

Can I enable CSD and header bars on all my (gnome3-based) Ubuntu 16.04 apps? I want to ask on the chat before doing the question because maybe is a no-go.

Q: dkms problem with VirtualBox kernel registration after 15.10 to 16.04 upgrade

Paranoid PandaAfter upgrading an Ubuntu GNOME 15.10 machine to 16.04 I have encountered some problems with my VirtualBox and dkms installation. It seems that during the upgrade dkms had some problems registering the old kernel (4.2) going and the new one coming (4.4)... So now I am unable to run VirtualBox VMs...

@Seth as far i understood him he will be back 7th or 8th jun !?
dont nail me dont on that

Anyone know a good program/site to convert a video to webm?

cant ffmpeg do this ?

not in Windows

ah ok, look for a programm called SUPER

oh wait
Imgur lets me do it

user136984
@Videonauth: Do I need to first uninstall VBox before trying what you have suggested?

5:48 PM
I did a normal remove tho

user136984
But how exactly did you reproduce by problem? Because my problem is specifically caused when one installs VBox and dkms on Wily and then runs a do-release-upgrade to get to Xenial.

user136984
That is when the problem is caused, so unless you've done that, I doubt that you could easily reproduce it.

user136984
It's not just a matter of a standard installation.

i know i havde the problem on my laptop and one of cl-netboxes answers is exactly that
create a sources list file to the oracle repo
and then install it from there
not from the ubuntu repo

user136984
I didn't install it from the Ubuntu repo, that repo you give is exactly the place I installed it from.

user136984
5:51 PM
Where are these upgrade logs by the way? Because I looked in the /var/logs/dist-upgrade folder but that's seemingly just for normal package upgrades, not the log stored when one upgrades from Wily to Xenial.

weird becaue on my side it runs after that
there are as well logs keept in dpkg.log

user136984
Is there not a proper log though of all the output it displays during the upgrade?

There's a raccoon eating my food.

user136984
5:54 PM
I got tired of being a Panda and decided to change for the day!

You're a trash panda?

@ParanoidPanda what you as well could try is installing dkms alone
sudo apt-get install dkms
and then retry

user136984
I did, I've tried everything along those lines.

user136984
Though I have some new information, see my comment, and updated post.

user136984
Do you think I should just run that then?

user136984
5:56 PM
Well, I'll have a go...

Why can't I just sudo apt-get purge all-my-problems?

yeah approved as long i get a sudo apt-get install money

lol
not sudo dpkg -i sleep? Because I could do with that too

user136984
@Videonauth: I've updated my question with more information.

user136984
Do you think the problem will be fixed with the next kernel upgrade? Also, what are these modules it speaks of? Can't I just reinstall that or something?

user136984
6:06 PM
Is there anyone here we know would be good with this question?

phew well im a bit lost now because i run on 4.4.0.22 aswell and it works on my machine
on the upgraded laptop (upg from 15.10) and on the new install

Long time no see, Seth! :)
Is that really the correct way to say it?
I remember hearing it on Breaking Bad, I also learned "come on in"
I hope I did this correctly askubuntu.com/q/778878/530811

@Seth respectfully disagree. I don't really think systemd is the problem there.

@grooveplex yeah that's correct :)

7:01 PM
If I were them, I would use PAM to spawn a user session.

And uh, what do you think about my comment, @Seth? I'm thinking of saving it as a template for future use.

looks fine
@grooveplex you did, but muru was editing at the same time so the system threw your edit out.

I installed Ubuntu 14.04 in Macbook Air 2013-mid. I can connect with it to my Android's phone wifi but not to my router's one. How can you put network work correctly in Ubuntu 14.04 on the Macbook.

@NathanOsman adding a dependency to systemd is not a good idea.
I'm not saying there aren't better ways of doing it. There are always better ways.

I'm not suggesting they do that.

7:12 PM
Really though, if some governement or giant corporation wanted to undermine Linux systemd would be the way they did it. I don't think that's the case, but think about it.
@NathanOsman right, so you're talking about something else then..
@ParanoidPanda that's.. actually a compliment, I think?

@Seth Anything is a compliment if you look at it the right way

user136984
@Seth: I don't know... :D

7:27 PM
Is anyone here please say yes.

user136984
How do I check in a bash script if $1 is in use or not because just checking if it is equal to say "--test" is just resulting in an error if there is nothing in the place of $1?

you didn't use any punctuation so your question is very hard to parse. What do you want?
you want to check if $1 is defined?
if [ -n "$1" ] should do it, I think.

user136984
@Seth: Is that the best way of getting around this then?

7:43 PM
why must exams

answered @ParanoidPanda

user136984
8:02 PM
@Seth: Thanks! Also, do you know how to make a script exit at a certain point? With just a command that is, will exit suffice or does that do a little more than just exit the script?

exit works :)

user136984
8:19 PM
Right, and how do you do else if statements in bash?

user136984
I've tried what I think are the usual but it's not working...

user136984
Oh I see, it's elif, never mind then... :)

Hello.

It's me.

Don't mind me... I'm just transferring 15,000 images off my Pi...

8:28 PM
nice.

They were taken over a period of five days.
So it might take a while to go through them all.

*sigh*
"I fresh installed 16.04, I'm getting this mergelist error.."
@NathanOsman Have you done any packaging with snaps yet?

I made one for Hectane.

A desktop snap?
or IoT?

Lemme check...
It's nearly the simplest snap possible.

8:32 PM
must be IoT because snap find doesn't find a snap named hectane.

Single binary. Simple invocation.
@Seth Really? I submitted it and it's listed in the snap store.
Or, at least, it's supposed to be.

@NathanOsman I'm on desktop.
But maybe you should double check?

I certainly will.

because I would think all IoT snaps should work on desktop just fine too..

Hectane runs on any Linux distro, so yes, it should show in desktop.

8:36 PM
well anyway, the reason I ask is because the only getting started guide I can find is for IoT, and I'm not sure it applies to desktop (which is what I'm doing). I guess the only way to find out is try and see.

That's what I see.

@NathanOsman ah, you're only in 15.04 core.
You need to be in rolling-core too.
Otherwise only people on 15.04 will see it :)

"Package is public".
@Seth Oooooooooh.
Okay, that explains it.
Thanks!

np!

hi

8:44 PM
ih

lol
If you can directly make edits at 2000+ without approval, why do you still need a 2nd approval after ok'ing an edit that's been proposed or is in the queue?

user136984
I have written a little script which checks if a reboot is required, if it is then it informs the user of this in Terminal and displays a list of packages needing the reboot (probably after an update). If a reboot is required it will also prompt the user if they want to reboot (if they do it will reboot the machine). The user can also use certain flags to slightly alter the behaviour of the problem when run.

@chaskes unfortunately because people reviewing aren't always paying attention. SO has a huge problem with reviewers approving spam because they're only there for a badge.

user136984
Is this a program I could consider proposing to the universe repository or is there already something of this nature there? Because up until now it's just been for person use as I haven't found anything else in Terminal, but I wonder if they would accept something like this? Is there much criteria?

@Seth Ok, thanks. One of those unfortunate things.
