adios guys

user136984
Goodnight guys! :)

o/\o

@Zacharee1 is it that bad or do you just need a break?

I don't know

12:11 AM
I can understand that answer.

:p
@Rinzwind I'm sorry, but this really should be your avatar:

@NathanOsman switch to active voice, writing.wisc.edu/Handbook/CCS_activevoice.html - dropping words like 'was' - also remove words like "positive“ "automatically" "broader" basically any of the fluffy descripive words

12:28 AM
@TheBrownOne Are you there?

@NathanOsman also remove the anectdotes like "development progressed slowly" and it should sound more neutral

Hmm, good ideas.

Q: Is it possible to search in comments at my questions?

Tomáš PečenýIn a comment to my question I have got a general advice which I intend to try again. Is it possible to find the comment, without opening all my questions, clicking at 'show more comments' and Ctrl+F? Thanks.

@seth i still don't get what glenn is getting at. He may be good at scriting but he doesn't explain well

no, he doesn't.

@Mateo @NathanOsman - I like the "use active voice" for writing articles or whatever, however when describing something that happened in the past - it's not necessary. Just avoid switching between the two. Group your description of past events in past tense and your statements related to features, current, and future in the active voice/present tense.

@Zacharee1 paranormal pirate ? Are you smosh games fan by any chance ?

@Serg that's Spongebob's "The Flying Dutchman" :p

12:49 AM
Okay, brainstorming time.
How should the NitroShare Android app work?

Conversely, if you wanted active voice, you could set up dates when things actively happened and use headings.

__2015__
Nitroshare is initially developed as part of the Ubuntu App showdown. Although it does not receive a winning position in the contest, it does go on to receive positive reviews on related etc etc etc...

^^ That's how you do it, but it feels even more awkward to me.

Yeah.

This guy rolled back my edit:

@NathanOsman For an android app for file sharing, I would like specifying specific folder targets... so it's less a functional ootb thing - and more of a "Music should go in music. Pictures in pictures. Don't make me copy it around so apps can find it" sort of thing. Those locations are implemented differently for different handhelds/brands/versions. So, sadly - until there's an API for it, it requires configuration for it to do what I want.

Right, I totally get that.
A future feature is sorting incoming files based on MIME type.
For example, image/* goes into Pictures/, etc.
But for the first version, just being able to select a directory for all items will suffice.

12:55 AM
Certainly.

I more meant to tie in to platform specific locations, so if I share an mp3 to my phone from my computer, and when I open my music player - it finds it - instead of having to use a file browser to open it or move it.

Doesn't Android already do that though regardless of the folder the media is in?
If I dump an MP3 somewhere in the filesystem, it shows up in Google Play Music.

Not in my experience, but I have an old device. It shows up once you play it though, regardless of location it is added to the library.

Ah. Well, if you were only sending music, you could send all files to Music/ or whatever.
But I get your point.

Yes. What if instead of sorting it with mime types, you temporarily had something where the user could say "I'm sending music right now" or "I'm sending videos this time" when trying to send?

Or even on the receiving end. "Where should these new files go?"

12:59 AM
@Zacharee1 ah . . . Didn't know. Joven from smosh games has gaming alias paranormalpir8t

:p

And in the other news . . .I'm eating pho again

@NathanOsman That could work too. Added bonus could be "I could tell it to just put all of this stuff in Downloads right now" on a PC that is getting the same transfer that I want my Android device to put in /Muzak or whatever
Better example I guess would be one goes to Archive or Backup and the other goes to Music or Video

@Serg GIMMEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
:p
How's this answer:

A: install ubuntu in "Asus Zenbook UX32VD"

Zacharee1Everything should be fine. I don't see anything special, so there should be no problem. Like others have said, your SSD is a little small, but Ubuntu can actually be configured to boot Ubuntu off of the SSD and have all your data on the 500GB drive. Since you do have NVIDIA, I recommend installi...

@Zacharee1 it got an uptick from me, but you might want to add something about UEFI with a link to one of the UEFI questions... and some UEFI implementations don't trust USB devices at all, so the thumbdrive would be right out...

1:09 AM
Hmm
I don't really know how to explain that :p
If you want to edit it in, go ahead, but I'd just end up waiting for them to comment about it
Oh, I should include Secure Boot..

Same thing. UEFI == Secure Boot.

@Zacharee1 decent answer. I would add also that you can change fstrim cronjob to include --enable-all option, cuz fstrim by defaul looks for intel ssds i think

@hbdgaf oh lol
@Serg umm
I don't even know how to do that

@Zacharee1 as for pho, no sir , it's the only thing i want gimme to you haha

:((((((((((((((
:p
I guess it's a good thing my mom opened a new business near where there's some really good pho

1:13 AM
@Zacharee1 trivial actually.... google askubuntu question about enabling trim in ubuntu and see Rinz's answer
@Zacharee1 envy you somewhat ,but then again thete is pho near my house. I just never have time to go there

Too lazy too headachy to learn new stuff right now, but maybe later :p
@Serg I don't know why, but it's really addictive and really good :p

@Zacharee1 it is ! I used to work in viet restaurant and eat it every day. Still love it !
Like i said, trivial matter, open a cron file, append enable all option, save, close the file

Don't know what a cron file is ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Another day
I want pho now
@hbdgaf Doubt it: I usually eat poppy seed bagels a lot, but haven't had one in about a month. No withdrawal here :p

1:19 AM
I wasn't backing the story. Just pointing out that it's on CNN not the onion or something...

You know, the extra 10 minutes it takes to really make a full answer really helps to get upvotes
@hbdgaf :p
P:
:d
not sure what I'm doing
I think the LG G5 is going to surpass the S7 in almost every way

@Zacharee1 >.> - seriously though - related articles said something about building up over a long time - not like a one taste and you're done thing... seems vaguely possible.

@hbdgaf ?
SD card slot most likely (S7: doubtful), probably a removable battery (S7: lolno), fingerprint reader (S7: same), dual cameras (S7: Samsung? Not copying iPhone? Ha!), modular bay (S7: fuhgeddaboutit)
@hbdgaf still "?"

That gets a star XD

I'm usually not funny when I try to be punny.

It worked this time :p
Tried to type ":p" typed "Lo"

happens to me all the time.
We have a pho restaurant on my way to work. It's very assembly line though - not a proper asian restaurant proper. Just "EC Pho". Haven't taken it for a test drive though.

Try it out
If you throw up later, don't go back
If you enjoy it and feel fine, definitely go back and allow the addiction to form :p
I did it again, but I caught this time
My fingers are freezing, so that might be why

-.- I'm already eating quantities of Soba noodles. I don't need a second noodle addiction.

@hbdgaf this one's slightly healthier :D

We all have to die of something. I'll take my chances

lol

Also, I saw a suspicious billboard today on the way home. It read "Asian buffet. Includes sushi."

I don't trust any restaurant that says "Asian buffet" and I doubly don't trust the sushi on said buffet.

@NathanOsman it only works if you die before 101
Whoo

@NathanOsman Good to know the breakdown I guess... I also have a tattoo that reads "on a long enough timeline, the survival rate for everyone drops to zero" so - it fits :)

1:40 AM
310 rep to 4k

That website has some neat graphs.

R is interesting, but I'ld be a lot more interested if it were using pandas or numpy and some graphing lib.

That one is worth reading.
I'm trying hard not to laugh out loud, but...

I guess I'm just too lame to find any of that funny :(

1:49 AM
How about that one?

Read the article. The Filler Text bit killed me.

@NathanOsman nope :(
okay, "A name that is not Marty McFly" got me xD

Yeah, the entire article is pretty well done.

In light of this I find that to be hilarious

that's like having someone run a fork bomb.

Also, if you have an iPhone, don't set the date to January 1, 1970.

or worse

@NathanOsman I wasn't saying it was new. That graphic though.

Yeah. Kinda mean but... what a stupid bug.

Logically though, if it did transform your phone into the iphone from 1970, it would be a brick. So, it sort of proves time travel works on the iPhone XD

I wonder if it turns in to a replicant if you set it to some particular date in 2019??? blade runner reference - okay I'll stop now

what do you think of this overlaying:
vs, having a tiny icon in the right corner:

@Mateo tiny icon is much better. The former looks like @Zacharee1's CSS :P

ah, so too much like a mistake

Well
I think my hack worked very well thanks

;p

After it didn't for the first three tries
And then did without changing anything
Does anyone have a noob explanation for the difference between Obj-C and C(++)?
Like what makes a language object oriented?

3:59 AM
both Obj-C and C++ are object orientated.

Oh
Well what does it mean?

it means it is orientated around objects?
I'm terrible at explaining things :P
Nathan might do a better job.

But what is an object oriented language vs. a non one
@NathanOsman ^
Phone's going to die soon. Luckily, that's what I want to happen and I have an extra battery

@Zacharee1 object oriented stuff is basically where you can create your own data type (like stack, linked list, queue, dog, person, Zacharee1). And it will hold some information . . . like age, or maybe how many wheels it has . . . it can have methods/functions that do stuff
In other words, object oriented programming creates things that have certain behavior or hold certain info. They're not like ints or strings . . . those guys are just that . . . But object oriented programming basically says "let's model some real /bin/sh@+ "
While programming languages like C are more procedural, Java and C++ and python have classes, which are basically templates for .. . . things . . .
C has struct datatype, but that's just a collection of strings and ints. Class can have methods (which are like functions in C ). So class can have info AND behavior

4:17 AM
^--- what @Serg said
It may help to think of classes as "types".
(In fact, quite a few languages use the word "type" in place of "class".)
An example might help. Let's imagine an operating system with a graphical user interface.

user139252
@Zacharee1 Sorry, I was busy

Each individual element that you interact with might be called a "widget". All of the widgets have a number of properties in common: their width, height, and position.
So we create a class (or type) named "Widget".

user139252
Broke my phone screen again... had to go to Best Buy and buy a cheap replacement

@NathanOsman Maybe I should write him a class . . .

It has four properties - width, height, x-offset, and y-offset.
Each instance of the class contains storage for those four properties.
Inheritance is a form of "is a" relationship. Continuing with our example, let's consider a menu item. A menu item "is a" widget. Therefore it inherits from the "Widget" class.
But it adds additional properties - a title (shown to the user) and an action (what happens when it is activated).
It is important to understand the difference between "is a" and "has a". A menu item is a widget. A car has a wheel.
In our example, we might have a third class that holds translations of the menu item text (we'll call it "Translation"). Now, neither of these are true:
- a menu item is a translation
- a translation is a menu item
However, it can be said that a menu item has a translation.

4:27 AM
  1 #!/usr/bin/env python
  2
  3 class Student()
  4    def __init__(self,name,id):
  5        self.name = name
  6        self.id = id
  7
  8    def printInfo(self):
  9        print "%s has id %d" % (self.name,self.id)
 10
 11
 12 class Undergraduate(Student):
 13       def __init__(self,GPA):
 14          self.GPA = GPA
~
quick sketch in VIM . . . Student class , which has name and id, but can also bark, Undergraduate inherits from Student, and also has another piece of info - GPA
did i miss anything ?

So, then we end up with something that looks like this (example in C++):
class Translation {
    std::string french, spanish;
}

class Widget {
    int w, h, x, y;
}

class MenuItem : public Widget {
    std::string title;
    Translation t9n;
}
@Serg Nope, that's a great example.
LOL.

@NathanOsman That was an unintentional DOX. Is there a way to securely delete that?

Nobody can see it but chat mods.

Q: gpg-agent and SSH: No keys

WhaaaaaatI'm trying to enable SSH authentication through my GPG subkey, using this tutorial. However, I borrowed and used the .init script from this blog (in lieu of editing my Xprofile). However, I'm getting a very peculiar error message: ┌─[12:53:49]─[user@pc] └──> ~ $ ssh-add -l gpg-agent[7659]: ssh...

this. right link.

Oh hang on.
I purged it.

4:33 AM
thx <3

I forgot that we can permanently expunge message history.

so how do i get this mod powers?

Become a moderator :D

so in other words, be likable and helpful

There may be another way.
Like earn 15k rep. or something.
I'm not sure.

4:35 AM
eh. so. yeah. no ssh is kinda fun
who thought i'd have to reboot to Windows to ssh?

user139252

I forgot a colon . . . also here's a more complete example

i programmed a snake in python.

And I so far only have programmed linked list in python, next assignment - merge sort
And programmed few short scripts . . . here and on U&L

but why is pgp auth so hard :/

user139252
@Serg did you ever get around to checking out the polynomial multiplier?

open source is awesome
it always bugged me that the cinema scope had squares for the movie poster pictures

@TheBrownOne I don't think so . . .

think I should send a pull request?

user139252

I have it available on my pi. If you log-in you can just do polymult and test it out.

@TheBrownOne i have it saved on my machine, i think i did copy that paste

@TheBrownOne they certainly don't look uncomfortable D:
But I have very flat feet. Shoes with any amount of arch support cause me pain real fast. I'm hoping it will go away in time but so far no such luck.

I don't think flat feet are curable.
If they are, sign me up.
