This Saturday we’ll be testing our new DR datacenter in Denver, Colorado. We will begin around 10AM EST (14:00 UTC). We expect the test itself to be approximately 15-30 minutes in duration once it begins and the total window for this op to be around 4 hours. We’ll begin prepping at the start which means actual user impact will begin some time after that.

This test will consist of our entire Q&A network (including Stack Overflow), and Stack Overflow Careers. Questions will still be available for access but submissions will be disabled until we move operation…

I am thinking about creating a patch for a program as an issue which affects me and which I reported some time ago still has not been fixed and would be rather easy to fix, how exactly do you create and then submit a patch? Is there a guide somewhere on how to do this? Because I now know about the maintainer downstream part, but not about the upstream part...

I know how to fix the bug, and I have done in the version I got from apt-get source etherape, however I do not know how to create an actual patch diff file in the format they usually have...

It looks like the Ubuntu package maintainer is one of the main developers, so patching it through LP should work fine, he'll probably forward it himself.

@ParanoidPanda Ubuntu patches are normally done it quilt. Lemme pull the relevant docs up.

Ok, I know which bit of the code to fix, but how do I make a standard patch file? They usually have lots of +s and -s in them.

I know, I've recently used quilt, just not sure about the creation of the actual patches... Is that done in quilt too? Because I have only ever applied patches in that.

It's a full Linux computer, isn't it?

That runs some network services like DHCP, DNS, whatever and a HTTP server for the user interface.
