Q: Can I create a bootable distribution backup

bak202I'm interested in trying out a couple of distributions, but for extended periods of time (so using a LiveCD is not really an option). However, I would like to create a backup of my current distribution (Ubuntu-Gnome) with it's settings and extra packages/dependencies. Would it be a case of sim...

11:40 AM
:)

ok I figured one thing out

:D

now can I change background to something else other than black?

ofcourse :=)

its server remember

11:42 AM
so? >:)
/etc/dir_colors is probably the file

doesnt that mean directory colors or am I wrong?

there is more in there :D But 1st: are you using a terminal emulator perhaps? or working of a tty?

tty I think
whatever I logged in with I havent changed that

this probably will make it red:
set_color -b RED

also I dont have GUI

11:45 AM
@mojo706 you said "server" a while back. why would you assume I interpretet that as anything else than non-gui? >:DD

idk lol

did the set_color work?
I do not have a tty here (using putty for connections)

no it didnt plus i dont have dir_colors :(

hmm set_color is part of "fish" :D
might need to install that 1st

how do I use my terminal emulator
do I even have one?

11:50 AM
if you use a PC to connect to the server then you do and are using one
if you sit in front of the terminal of the server you do not and are not using one
regarding the 1st: colors then are probably set by the emulator.

oh ok

:16759847 not by me though. I make perfect sense >:D

i got it
lol

lol
if it is the 2nd set_colors might work :D
oh and what is wrong with a black background? Hmm?

green on black!

11:54 AM
yes something other than white on black
@Braiam watching passively
thanks guys see ya'll later

bye!

Q: Persistent invalid edits from the same user

Luís de SousaIn recent days I have got a good number of invalid edits in the review queue by user Pabi. In most cases the user simply inserts blanks lines, but other times it is the deletion of entire portions of the post. Is there any procedure to deal with this kind of persistent delinquent behaviour?

How is it relevant?
That's what I don't understand.

@Seth "btw,"

Now I'm confused.

You have acquired a new skill: Confuse Seth

I have installed DirectX to wine using winetricks
dxdiag works, but GTA SA shows I have to install directx

Good luck ever getting that to work.

Q: Merge [picasa] into [google-picasa]

BraiamThere are two tags for Picasa by Google, there should be one, preferably [google-picasa], since people interested in all sorts of Google software can follow them easily using [google*].

8:23 PM
@Seth, Do u know what should I do?

No, I don't.

Can you give my any hins
?

No. I stay away from DirectX.

Yes, but my computer's graphic is horrible in games and I need good drivers and libraries for wine
Do u know any alternatives?

8:44 PM
@Ty221 there are tons of little bits to getting specific games to work. Where did you get it? WineHQ says the steam version doesn't require any winetricks so....
@JourneymanGeek - thinking about acquiring this little fellow:

Q: How can we encourage 3k+ uers to review more Close Votes

Warren HillFirst I would like to congratulate Luis Alvarado on his efforts today in dealing with the Close Vote queue. @hbdgaf: wheaties are supposed to be awesome

it's a shihpoo (shihtzu toy poodle cross to make pedigree less important for congenital defects since the poodle half handles some of that... if that's what you said, and i'm just ignorant of the term then my bad)

9:12 PM
Thank you to those who are reviewing the close votes =)

o/ @bodhi

@hbdgaf - good to see you, how goes ?

Reasonably okay. Some things change, while others stay the same. Working on an interesting yet inhumanely intensely large project over here: github.com/aking1012/ODA ... note, it's completely non-functional as of yet. It does have a pulse and a couple of people that keep nudging me to keep working on it though.
one fellow even directed this towards me a little youtube.com/watch?v=5t5QSiydF9Y

Ah, nice =)
You may gain a whole new appreciation for "bug reports" in the near future

I filed the first two bug-ish installation issues that were reported to me with the cause of the bug myself when someone had trouble trying out the starting-point harness.
@bodhi.zazen I have a firm "Don't be a dick when filing bug reports" policy... So, my bug response policy will probably be mostly put it on the bulletin board and remain silent, so as not to instigate a flamewar.
I also expect a lot of bug status = wfm || by-design

9:25 PM
That is a good way to start
If you are nasty, people will stop giving you feedback, and then you will have to do all the work by yourself

Your thoughts on the "everything is a plug-in -- literally EVERYTHING" approach?

not given it much thought to be honest
I suppose in a sense most of "linux" is a plug into the kernel

That's a pretty interesting point. I basically meant though that even my built core functionality is built mostly as plugins. The only classes in app.core are datastore and plugin_manager.
@bodhi.zazen You can see how I talk in bug threads over here: github.com/ahupp/python-magic/issues/65
It's functionality I want for my application, but I don't want to build it in to the application... so I'm trying to force it upstream. That way, everyone gets to use it instead of just me or deriving from an offshoot

It is often easier for me to break a large task into smaller chunks, and then manage each chunk. For example, web design. It is easier to break my .css into 3 style sheets, and I can then micromanage various aspects without having to find the code I need to edit in a single, huge, file
upstream almost always appreciates "bug reports" that inculde actual code, I know I do

I'll throw a pull request that way when I fix the problem. I didn't know if he knew of an API I did not.
Totally right. The way the functional plugins are going in the local branch ahead of the github repo is something like: I have some import that lets me handle some number of functional problems - like elf parsing. So it's a worker plugin that doesn't do any UI updates itself. It just harvests data-points. It then calls plug-ins that manage individual data-point groups and UI components, then fires them to update.
I try really hard not to be this guy most of the time:

A: How can we encourage 3k+ users to review more Close Votes

BraiamAs can be seen in your screenshot I'm the second user with most reviews completed and will tell, from my perspective, you what the problem is: Y U FLAGGING CRAPPY QUESTIONS AS DUPLICATED!?!?!? Flagging as duplicated use a massive amount of time. The good reviewer have to read two questions, and...

@luis is failing already, he voted to leave open that one

You can't do 544 reviews and not miss a few, sadly :-/

@Seth tell him this:
Y U NO RESTING?!

Q: www.garfieldgames.com gives js error in Ubuntu firefox

geekseradicateallWhen I go to www.garfieldgames.com It pops up this error. It only happens in firefox, it doesn't happen in chromium and I don't really use Opera, it doesn't load very well. I didn't see anybody else that had even had this error.

That's a problem with the site, no?

@Seth what a ugly site
washes eyes with acid

@hbdgaf aw, we have a black and white one, they are really smart.

11:37 PM
@Mateo i'm going with what is locally available at a reasonable price. if i had my rathers, it would be a basset hound not a shihpoo. a shih-tzu would even rate above a shihpoo, but i doubt they are reasonably available and properly bred locally... and they have problems if they aren't
my experience with a real shih-tzu was that it wouldn't leave me alone while i was sleeping. kept wanting to lick and wag on my face... so not altogether a positive experience, but i hear they were used as morality indicators in olden times... so i guess if that's true, then it was a wholly fulfilling experience.

well, he looks cute. and they have hair rather than fur, so that is a plus

it was in the top ten "lazy people cuz they don't shed" list
