Hi @terdon! Been a bit I think :)

Hi @Seth :)
Yeah, I broke my leg and have been kind of out of it these past few weeks.

Ouch! That can't be any fun D:

Broken bones suck bro. Feel better.

Yeah, no fun at all. And I'll need an operation and everything :(
Thanks guys :)

@terdon Ow. Hope you're feeling better soon :)

2:29 AM
Should do. Just have a hard few months ahead. On the bright side, I moved back to Greece so I now have parents to wait upon me :)
Hand and leg as it were.

I had an ex that had compound fractures of both legs in the calf/shin area. I respect anyone that comes back from that. Good luck.

@hbdgaf Ouch. That's awful. I have a compound fracture on one shin/knee but I at least have a functioning leg. Having none would be hell.

I was surprised she walked again at all... So yeah, respect. Even if it's only one leg, you get respect for fighting through it.

@terdon That's nice anyway :)

@hbdgaf Thanks. At the moment fighting consists of lying in bed most of the day. I might come back whining after the operation though.

2:40 AM
Then the fighting hasn't started yet. When you get to rehab and trying to walk again, that's when it starts.

Yeah, not looking forward to that bit at all.

If you need some positive reinforcement, I'll be around. Hopefully you won't really NEED it because you have good people locally, but if you do... I'll be around.

Thanks man :)

And I don't say any of that lightly. Just so you know. Anyway, feel better.

Cheers

3:11 AM
that's how Christmas should look like

3:56 AM
Now I've done it.
I've got a Utopic machine thinking it's running Vivid.
When I run apt-get, it pulls the Vivid package lists.
How do I fix it up?

Ouch. Do what you did?
Is vivid in your sources.list?

I'll have to check in a few minutes.

ok

Q: Difference between /run and /var/run

AnzzIs there any difference between /run directory and var/run directory. It seems the latter is a link to the former. If the contents are one and the same what is the need for two directories?

7:10 AM
I've replaced "vivid" with "utopic" in sources.list. Hope that works.
The following packages have been kept back:
  0ad 0ad-data 0ad-data-common account-plugin-aim

  xserver-xorg-video-vmware

Erm... that doesn't sound right.

Does anyone know if the SAS University Edition is Ubuntu related? Otherwise this is off-topic: SAS University Edition Error on startup.

@blade19899: SAS is a statistics software

@JourneymanGeek I know, but the users asked it here, is it Ubuntu based? but I found a help page from the sas support page with the same error covered as the user mentioned!

No mention of it in their documentation

@JourneymanGeek Thats what i thaught, the link to the SAS support page should help him out, i voted to close as off-topic!

I'd be willing to check but it needs a registration

8:45 AM
@JourneymanGeek naah dont bother, just noticed that mitch already closed it.
The asker got all the information he need to fix his issue. Move Along Nothing to see here.

lol
naw, I'm curious ;p

SAS (Statistical Analysis System; not to be confused with SAP) is a software suite developed by SAS Institute for advanced analytics, business intelligence, data management, and predictive analytics. It is the largest market-share holder for advanced analytics. SAS was developed at North Carolina State University from 1966 until 1976, when SAS Institute was incorporated. SAS was further developed in the 1980s and 1990s with the addition of new statistical procedures, additional components and the introduction of JMP. A point-and-click interface was added in version 9 in 2004. A social media analytics...

ChadwaltWhen i try to login onto my pc. The place where am supposed to input the password has the fallowing words. "The daemon of accounts has not started." What does that mean?

Q: How to list all running daemons?

AnzzFrom my question, it was clear that I cannot easily decide the features of a daemon.I have read in different articles and from different forums that service --status-all command can be used to list all the daemons in my system. But I do not think that the command is listing all daemons because Ne...

Oli
@blade19899 It wasn't spam. They were posting a code sample (as requested by a comment)

@Oli My bad. It looked like spam! Without thinking i flagged!

Oli
Err, they were posting a code sample in response to your comment.

12:22 PM
@Oli At first glance it looked like most spam we get her on AU. I jumped the gun, and flagged. LAter one i saw the Asker filled the answer box, with his code.

12:38 PM
@Oli Raised a "Not an Answer" flag instead. The code sample is still posted as an answer.

Nope. I'm from New Delhi :-)

do you know Tamil?

Yes
It's my mother tongue
Although I'm more comfortable with English

1:14 PM
:p
I can't type in Tamil but I'm very essentially bilingual

@JourneymanGeek I can't read and write Tamil although I can converse fairly well.
That is why I placed English over it :-P

@RohithMadhavan @AvinashRaj @JourneymanGeek > நீங்கள் இணைய காதலிக்க வேண்டும்!

I'm essentially Trilingual (comfortable with English, Hindi and Tamil)

I bet you five bucks that when you guys translated that, you gonna lol a little.

@blade19899 Encoding problems. Appears garbled for me. Might have to install Tamil fonts first :P

@blade19899 Got it now. Although as I mentioned, I can't read and write Tamil :P

நீங்கள் இணைய காதலிக்க வேண்டும்! means You have to love the internet!- translater

@Seth Do you think this is something I should ask on Meta.SE?

I love my new hat(refresh to see.)

@blade19899: Actually, you said something like "you must make internet romance"

@JourneymanGeek Goddamn Google Translater!

@RohithMadhavan: I can read, I don't write much in anything. We speak tamil at home ;p
@blade19899: Probably cause we don't use 'love' in that sense. "like" may translate better.

2:03 PM
@JourneymanGeek You're indian?
o.O I did not realize that

@RPi_Awesomeness: Most people assume I'm a wauzer ;p

@JourneymanGeek :)

I spent most of my life in singapore tho
so you probably wouldn't catch too many obvious written indianisms.

I always thought you were American or English because you speak English so well and (dunno why I thought because of this) because you're in Singapore..

I lived in UK for ~2 years
But no, both my parents are Indian, and from the old country ;p
(I figured my semi-mock distress at indians doing silly things on SU should be a giveaway)

To all: personal information should be limitted in chat as much as possible ;-)

@Rinzwind Me living in Kosovo? Yeah that would be bad. I know what they have to offer software wise there. Everything is cheap there, except the Technology stuff.

@Rinzwind if you want me to shut up, i can. just say so...

Yeah, I didn't put myself out there at all really. Still, point taken.

Q: ldlinux.c32 error when booting a respined ubuntu 14.10

davidbuddy9Ubuntu complains about the lack of a ldlinux.c32 file when I remaster Ubuntu with Remastersys. It seems that everyone who attempted to respin Ubuntu 14.10 even with a different program has this issue without a solution. Just wondering if anyone here has a solution to this problem. 14.10 has to be...

Never mind. I guess I don't know my bash as well as I thought I did.

@RohithMadhavan What version of Ubuntu is that? Looks nice!

@RPi_Awesomeness Arch Linux running GNOME 3.14 :)
Although Ubuntu GNOME would look pretty much the same

@RohithMadhavan ah :)
I've considered Arch - is hard to set up?
In other news, trying to use a Raspberry Pi & desktop with the same keyboard/mouse/wifi is a pain

4:43 PM
@RPi_Awesomeness The Arch Beginner's Guide is a great resource. I installed Arch a couple of weeks back only and I'm already loving it :)

@RohithMadhavan Nice! I need something lighter than default Ubuntu for my laptop - 8 years old and still chugging.

@RPi_Awesomeness Lubuntu or Ubuntu MATE perhaps?
I personally would go for MATE over LXDE...

@RohithMadhavan I've considered Lubuntu and would like to try MATE too...
You can install MATE on Arch, right?

Yes. You can even install Unity!

That's what I figured

Q: Can't write bluray disks

Nelson TeixeiraI'm trying to write my first Bluray on 14.10 since I bought my ASUS SBW-06D2X-U external USB unit. What happens is that it get exessively slow (0.2-0.3x) and it crashes when it reaches around 1Gb. k3b software buffer goes immediately to 100% when the writting starts and the device buffer oscilate...

@UbuntuQuestionsonU&L hm, bluray capacity of 25 , 29 percent of that is about 7.25 add to that how much memory kubuntu is using = seems like you are filling up memory...

@RPi_Awesomeness meh, up to you. A developer will eventually see it either way and sometimes site specific issues get closed on MSE.

Do you know how to extend the internal wifi card's range (no antenna's, with TX-Power)

schadenfreude@oubliette:~$ iw | grep power
	dev <devname> set txpower <auto|fixed|limit> [<tx power in mBm>]
	phy <phyname> set txpower <auto|fixed|limit> [<tx power in mBm>]
	dev <devname> set power_save <on|off>
	dev <devname> get power_save <param>
that doesn't do anything for rx though. if both ends don't up their power, it doesn't matter how hard you blast on one end.

does it go up to 40 because 30 doesnt make my pc hot.
whats "<devname>" and "<phyname>"?

no idea. haven't had to play with it, and i wouldn't unless it was on an external card i was comfortable frying.

10:14 PM
devname is like wifi0 and phyname is like phy0
think "logical name declared by the driver" and "physical index in order of load at boot"

O. I have no phy0 or wifi0 but I do have a wlan0. Will that work?

that's like wifi0
logical name.

O. Ok. Thak you for your time.
