@LuisAlvarado Pretty good, thank you :)

@LuisAlvarado sounds right, but mdadm is one of those things i don't love to use. i definitely like it better than hardware raid since it is easier/cheaper to rebuild if some hardware fails though

@hbdgaf Ok. Was practicing a lot since it is the one that is used in the linux foundation

@LuisAlvarado it's on the rhct/rhce too

aa see, well that's one less thing to worry about
already did 100+ hours of mdadm from 2 to 16 hdd

you know what helped me when i was doing certifications?

12:11 AM
but wanted to finish with raid 100, 50, 60
what

it wasn't grinding labs over and over again. it was learning how to find the information i could safely forget and find on any system ever. like tab completion and question mark completion for cisco gear and reading related man pages/help output for tools so i could say "this i need to remember. that i can safely forget as long as i know how to get there"

fully understand

like, don't read the man page for the first time at the test. have read it before. so if the info isn't in there, you know it isn't. "darn - shoulda studied that" or "yay - i know right where to find that piece of information"
anyway, later on. good luck on the cert pounding. i'm sure you'll do fine.

thanks buddy

Hi from Utopic Unusable.
I have just performed a completely clean installation of Utopic from the daily ISO. After installation, however, I was unable to use the mouse buttons. Neither the left nor right mouse buttons have any effect when pressed. I tried connecting another mouse but it exhibits the same behavior - the cursor moves but the clicks don't do anything. @NathanOsman strange, try enabling the desktop icons with gnome tweak tool
I had a weird problem, that was similar... maybe not the same, but give it a shot

I found a workaround.
Switch to VT1 and then back to VT7.

so does that happen each time you restart?

I've only started once so far.
It was happening a bit on the installer too though.
I'll try restarting later to see.

1:39 AM
hopefully just a onetime thing

1:55 AM
On the plus side, both Bluetooth devices that were giving me problems in Trusty are working flawlessly in Utopic.

Q: Have I installed a package successfully from source?

TimI try to install the latest stable psensor version (psensor-1.0.4) from source on ubuntu 12.04. After running ./configure, make and either make install or checkinstall, there is no command psensor. $ psensor The program 'psensor' is currently not installed. You can install it by typing: sudo a...

Anyone want to help test my latest package real quick? It'd be best tried in a VM.
I did things a little different this time and I want to make sure it all works. So far all my testing has been fine.

2:39 AM
@Mateo aye

awesome :)
@Mateo that one doesn’t show on my desktop... :(
@Seth which package?

@Mateo Silentcast 2.0

hm, vmware wants stuff in the kernel... virturalbox says there is a new version...

lol, I know that.
VMware says that every time too :/

I should have a vm I can test in, if you want to drop a link
lol, I only have eol vm's...

2:49 AM
ok cool
@Mateo oh, not sure that'll work then.
It depends on some up to date packages.

12.10, 13.04, 13.10... :(

13.10 might work, if you still want to try.

ok
awesome, this is one I was testing gnome in

lol
hm, is there any way to just upload the .deb to junk on launchpad?

+junk
oh, just the deb?

2:55 AM
yeah
well anyway, you can get it here onedrive.live.com/… when/if you're ready :)

got it

Note that it depends on libav-tools (hopefully in the main repos) and yad, which you can get from ppa:webupd8-team/y-ppa-manager.
I've got to run for a bit.

there is a lot of, ok, ok, ok, pressing
wonder if you can make a simple/advanced mode. simple could do straight animated gif's just select the area/window/mode and click ok once without any options or display for creating it.
@Seth anyway, it works great. I just installed on my 14.04 desktop instead of messing with vm's
oooh, feature request, unity quick-list launcher!
well, later

3:23 AM
@Mateo Woot! Thanks for testing it!
@Mateo Yes, that is something that could probably be fixed..

maybe just one "ok ready" box, or a settings window you can bring up
like the screen-shot tool, select method, click take screen, done

Yes, that would be much easier. You can create a feature request on GitHub if you want, or I might get around to it sometime..

it would take a bit of rethinking of some parts
but awesome work on making the indicator work for unity

@Mateo That would be nice, but I'm not sure it is possible since the developer is using yad for the dialogues.. Another good idea though.
@Mateo oh, thank you :)
You and hbdgaf helped me with that :)

@Seth ah... so not quite feasible to have it jump to a mode with a command

3:34 AM
I'm not really sure since yad is rather foreign to me. It is probably possible somehow.

Q: When will we use apt-get to download source?

A: How to upgrade to a beta version

Rinzwind1st check if your update settings are correct: The Ubuntu version shown after "pre-released updates" is the name of the new version. I have 14.10 installed on the image above. the "pre-released updates" needs to be active. the "notify me of new releases" needs to show "for any new version". ...

I did edit the title though :=D

@Mateo A similar question should be asked though. Luis Alv was looking for a way to get whatsapp working on PC. He even went so far as to try installing it inside the android emulator..

12:39 PM
@PHPLover did you check http.conf ?

yes

and it was not empty? >:)

it's not empty

see ;-) I need to make a vpn connection now :D bbl cuz it will kill my internet

@PHPLover if he doesn't want to take it out of room, nobody here will hate you for dropping a pastebin link. i'ld stop pinging him though. people that are giving a cursory look and a pointer don't usually like to get pinged (I speak from experience.)

@Rinzwind:I don't have the file httpd.conf at location "etc/apache2/httpd.conf"

@Mateo neither do i. i was just saying that other people who i might have more respect for are curious.

12:48 PM
Any Perlfu here ?

Nope. Perl is the programming language of Cthulu. I avoid it on principle.

@hbdgaf Might be intresting to try, to get android apps going
I've just put the service in the not going to use like Facebook category

@Mateo It could be interesting as an LXC project. A sort of reverse Ubuntu Touch. Where you use lxc to simulate the android parts and stack that on top of Ubuntu instead of use android to touch the hardware parts and stack linux on top of that...

@hbdgaf Cthulu??

How do people not get that reference.... anyway.

12:55 PM
:)

Cthulhu is a fictional deity created by writer H. P. Lovecraft and first introduced in the short story "The Call of Cthulhu", published in the pulp magazine Weird Tales in 1928. Considered a Great Old One within the pantheon of Lovecraftian cosmic entities, the creature has since been featured in numerous popular culture references. Lovecraft depicts Cthulhu as a gigantic, wholly evil entity worshiped by cultists who conduct human sacrifices in its name. Cthulhu's anatomy is described as hybrid: part man, part dragon, and part octopus. == Spelling and pronunciation == Cthulhu has also been spelled...

@hbdgaf I love his language ... :-)

That makes you one of the followers that commits sacrifice to preserve a very old thing ;)
The strength of perl was when it was superior at regexs. Now that all interpreted or byte-compiled languages support compiled perl-esque regex's, I don't see the point.

Hm, touch 14.09.5 is broke on my nexus 5

I can't test on my 7. cracked screen that makes half the screen - which includes the part I need to touch for my cyanogen pattern sign-on - untouchable.
I'll replace it around april.

1:03 PM
Well that is the fun of prerelease
:(

it's fine. I shouldn't have left it in someone's car door.
It wound up on their floor and their son wound up stepping on it.

Oh...

Totally my fault. I shouldn't have been careless. I could have controlled that variable, but I didn't

So the 7 the glued the digitizer to the LCD right? Or did it crack the LCD as well

1:06 PM
The whole blob to replace is about 50 bucks. I haven't taken it apart yet. That's just how it looks from checking the parts outlets.
Read as: I could probably replace it now, but I pay lot rent annually. I haven't filed taxes in years. I'm a little behind on my savings target. I need to put myself back ahead of the curve. If I file 4 years of tax returns at once where they all owe me money, because I made less or had less dependents than they expected or have more deductible college debt than expected - it's like an odd savings plan.
Nobody ever accused me of thinking normally.

Oh, @hbdgaf i forget, you're a pythoner
here is my question.
how to replace two or more blank lines with a single blank line.
here is what i tried.

lf = "define"
parse:
  where line and following line == lf:
    replace
iterate until the thing that goes in is the same as the thing that comes out.
done.

>>> with open('/home/avinash/Desktop/r', "r+") as f:
...     for i in f:
...         print (re.sub(r'\n\n+', r'\n', i.rstrip('\n')))
...
foo
bar

foo bar
it's not working..

obviously.

$ cat r
foo
bar

foo bar
What i need to do?

1:16 PM
I can't star myself, but look up...

is this possible through regex?
re.sub..

yes, but i don't want to.

but i know only regex..
it would be more helpfull if you use the above regex in your code..
because it would be quickly understandable for me.

it wasn't even code, it was pseudocode to reflect how i would approach the problem. it's not the same as what you are trying to do with the regex. you're trying to match all newline repetitions. i'm trying to find all pairs and iterate until there are no pairs.
it's one extra iteration for simplicity on three line pairs. so, simpler unless you have 20 lines of whitespace.

@hbdgaf where to insert this?

1:23 PM
i'm done talking about it. i need to do something else.

I gonna create another account for asking newbie questions. Is this a right behaviour?
@JourneymanGeek

no
Don't do it.

the spawn prevalence for mechromancer and psycho class mods - the paid classes - is higher than the prevalencce for unpaid classes - that is everything else.
@Lucio one should never develop in java... and if one does, it should never EVER be without coffee

there's one that was converted to a comment, with which i agree... since the comments to the answer seemed pestering, and very much like not trying to solve their own problem

Since I posted a comment under there but NOW I see it's appear under OP question.

Q: Real time show the max temperature outputed by sensors?

@PHPLover It said "/etc/apache2/apache2.conf" in your message. and that line it complains about states "Include httpd.conf" so there is a httpd.conf in /etc/apache2. If there is none... it probably needs to be there

@hbdgaf so... they give an advantage to the paid dlc characters?

and normally that file is empty after installing or has 1 line referring to localhost if editted.

4:50 PM
Is this post not an answer (to what was asked)? Or am I missing something?

@Mateo Yes, they get significantly more mod drops.
That, or I'm a statistical anomaly

hm, I haven't bought any of the dlc yet, are there fun missions?

idk
That about does it. My immediate supervisor is requiring that they can pull my people to cover my pad partner who has never covered me. And now they can't be arsed to answer their phone and tell me when we go in after they took half my weekend to go overnight. Tenpted not to go in overnight as a response.

I tend to avoid the stuff, unless it is a significant add-on, say like star-craft with broodwar

On dlc, I'm not even thinking about it... it's just irritating
It's sort of "if you don't pay us, 1/3 of your drops are useless"

5:13 PM
there were some good penny arcade comics about dlc and stuff

So, I'm trying out flask - just because. It seems neat for zero weight and learning since you only learn how to snap in the features you want instead of something heavier like django.

We used Flask at work.

passed tense. what made that change?

I used Flask for the new Stack2RSS: stack2rss.quickmediasolutions.com.

it seems really handy for exposing APIs. like: "I want to expose some data... here is as thin as I can make that layer in a suitably readable way."

@hbdgaf That's a long story that has absolutely nothing to do with technology whatsoever.

9:03 PM
@NathanOsman then i have no need to here it. i was wondering about the tech

From the perspective of personal projects, Flask is an advantage if you want just a simple page or two with dynamic content.
At that size, Django is probably overkill.
But for projects that require an ORM or consist of many more pages, Django starts to become a worthwhile investment.
Of course, to be completely fair, Flask can be used with ORMs like SQLAlchemy.
When comparing raw features, SQLAlchemy is more powerful than Django's ORM. It's also a lot more complex.

The thing I think I like about flask, but I'm not sure I'm in far enough to know yet, is that I only have to learn relevant blobs... where with django - I was having to learn loads of framework stuff and not getting anywhere productive.
It's not a complaint really. I will clearly state that I think django from someone that is intimately familiar with it is far superior, but that I also think that flask could probably do most of the lifting for which a lot of people use django without the learning curve.

Totally. You're right.
And Flask is quite modular. There are packages for SMTP, forms, etc.

anywho, i feel marginally justified now that the omnipresent nathan has agreed with me ;)
still reading and playing though
@NathanOsman - I know you're a Qt guy. Any thoughts on getting QtStalker up to snuff on Qt5?
