POW
Little black submarines, operator please.

1:46 AM
@Almo

1 hour later…
3:01 AM
@jgallant ?

3:14 AM
n/m was looking to game

3:28 AM
oh
sorry :(*

So I was about to go to bed then I thought "I could add a 2nd camera and do anaglyphic rendering"

hahaha

Need some advice with building a tile based environment.
I have zones and i need to place walls around tiles, currently though my walls are created in modular pieces, such as a corner piece is actually 2 game objects. So this leads to a realllyyyyy long code piece of if else if else if - setting up all the walls for every tile.
My alternative is to create a number of wall prefabs and simplify my code
what do most game devs choose in this situation ?

im using bitmask already
still got to instantiate the combinations of objects though since its 3d not a 2d sprite sheet
for example to setup a corner piece with my modular pieces i got: hastebin.com/ofijeyajiq.scala
but i could merge these 2 pieces as one mesh and save it as a prefab
so i have the choice of more prefabs = less code, or less prefabs = long code
i don't know which is smarter choice

1 hour later…
5:05 AM
@Almo Anaglyphic rendering added. I need some background to really add to the 3D effect.
left red / right cyan

2 hours later…
7:29 AM
Jon you here?

4 hours later…
11:52 AM
Yo

how did you make the scaling game thing (where your game would always have the same aspect ratio regardless of screen size and fit to screen)? was it a custom script or something built-in?

12:18 PM
It's just the way it is setup and a camera script

12:32 PM
mkay I'll see if I can make something similar later on

12:46 PM
Unity has a canvas scaler thingny that can do that for you

For unity UI yeah
For.standard game objects it will not do it
I can.gice you my cam script. It zooms to a defined area
I posted gifs of that a whole ago
It's what I use for everything I do in unity basically
Inssead of. Dealing with a camera I move a view around and the camera obfuscates the panning and zooming

1:08 PM
ugh! my horse died again
off to the obnoxious horse fairy I go...

I didn't even find the fucken horse fairy yet

I gotta find 2 shrines and kill 2 lynel to finish upgrading
But I'm all out Lynels until the next blood moon

1:39 PM
Haha cool. I haven't played in a bit since I beat it.
I'm waiting for hard mode Dlc
Smoke a big fat J and explore the fuck out of Hyrule

I found enough koroks to do the full upgrades, I am not looking for the other 430+

Yeah fuck that lol
My son started a new char and we go him in the castle and raided all the high powered gear
Good start
I'm hoping hard mode makes shit like that impossible

1:57 PM
it's kind of part of the fun tho. To short-circuit it
oh, found a Lynel I forgot about.
Kind of dumb tho, that the +Attack equipment requires you to kill so many of the hardest enemy of the game ...
If you can kill Lynels you don't need the +Attack gear at that point

2:24 PM
@JohnHamilton pastebin.com/RhkmAh1m

thanks jon :D

attach to your ortho camera -- then drag a blank gameobject into the public transform
adjust the size of that gameobject as your view -- what I do is set a 1:1 spriterenderer as the area
So I can visually see where my camera will zoom
If you adjust that "view" area, the camera is adjust itself
so it makes it a hell of a lot easier to control your camera
You can Lerp the scale/position in the lateUpdate if you want to make it nicer.

2:55 PM
My girlfriend bought me a fidget spinner

@jgallant WANT
friend has one, they're cool

3:16 PM
yeah its cool but useless haha

3:27 PM

oooh new badge! "Outspoken - Post 10 messages in chat starred by 10 different users. "

what is that?

I copied the level foreground a bit to the back to test the effect. Also ordered some "proper" cheap red/cyan glasses from China because my kid's Boston Pizza ones are all smashed up...
@jgallant I added anaglyphic rendering

DH.
3:44 PM
Why you made anaglyph?

This release should be stable for all intents and purposes, minor stuff to come but I'd appreciate any feedback: play.google.com/apps/testing/com.KrazyFunGames.Gravitrators

@DH. Because I could.

DH.
Fair enough
Now that's sloppy
I'm looking for a job, and send my CV to some headhunting pages
Then, all of a sudden, I look into my email and there's a new one saying "Hey, you are receiving this test, you got 24h to finish it starting by now"
Like WTF, any previous notice would be really nice you know

4:14 PM
its part of the test.

4:40 PM
Fuck this weather in finland right now. It should be sunny and 10-15 C outside but instead it's snowing and windy and cold

5:00 PM
@Almo Here now :P

5:47 PM

@Lasse just finished 3 days of fog here. And that was Superman64 level of fog.
worse, even

It looks like christmas when looking outside from a window

6:14 PM
why is there a fat guy in a red suit trying to get in your house?

Oh that was just me

It's the Valtiovarainministeriö's new strategy to soften the blow when they come to repo your stuff :)

lol yeah

7:03 PM
Man, Bluetooth is pretty flaky on Linux. it "works"...
To get my BT headphones to work I have to retry connecting a dozen times, set the headset audio mode to OFF, disconnect, reconnect (that stage works 100%), set the headset mode back to High fidelity playback (A2DP sink) -> music plays.

everything is flaky on linux lol

Nah, there's a few things that work way better. Main one being ATI/AMD/Intel GPUs :P

DH.
ATI Drivers feel very bad on Windows if you ask me, it's not even the hardware, I'm just worried about the drivers

The FOSS OpenGL drivers are way more compliant.
But that's about the only thing.

DH.
Nvidia just delivers always a good release
Whenever I have a problem the next patch fixes it

7:13 PM
Other thing that's easier to deal with is all the Arduino stuff. Hunting down OSX drivers or having to install dubious Chinese Windows drivers is a pain...
But yeah, outside of that, everything is flaky until you've found the right settings. Good thing is once you found the trick it keeps working until you mess with it again.
Funny thing is a 2-3 year old Mac is probably the best thing for running Linux. All the work-arounds have been figured out already in many distros out-of-the-box :D
I really don't get Steam Boxes, other than it somewhat a (laughable) warning to Microsoft.
- They're not cheaper than equivalent PCs
- They're barely better than consoles and many are not upgradeable.
- Specs-wise games are not really guaranteed to work out of the box like on consoles.

Console games aren't guaranteed to work out of the box anymore either xD

LOL
yah
The cases are neat tho.

yeah, it's more of a convenience thing than anything else
some people just don't like having a beast of a pc in their room / workshop

I'm still probably going to get one if I ever make an entertainment room, but only because it'll double as a SteamOS compatibility test machine for dev reasons.
The base Alienware one at $649.99 is about as powerful as a PS4
Nevermind that if you want you can actually run Steam & Linux on a PS4 now :D
Maybe I should get one and install Linux so that I can at least make sure my game runs well on PS4 hardware specs-wise...
But considering I'm deving off a GTX 560M which has about 1/3rd the GPU benchmark score of a PS4 I think I'll be fine without :P

7:58 PM
o/
never knew Stackexchange had chatrooms :O

I thought this was a discussion chamber...
Hey there btw :D

Haha well whatever u wanna call it :p

Toilet of certitude

8:16 PM
Some prefer the prequel Water Closet of Regret

The Bog of Eternal Stench

Aseos de la Fuego

user92578
8:34 PM
@Lasse lol yeah happy mayday

user92578
Or actually the eve of the eve of mayday

9:02 PM
almost broke my fingertip trying to get this fidget thing up to max speed

9:35 PM
Try with a Dremel :)

9:52 PM
coins vs rupees vs gems
gems can be different shapes and colours

coins too

and you can throw in coins with it too eh yeah

Rupees got different colors too

:P yeah but all the same shape
Spelunky and Shovel Knight feel different in that regard since it's all different bits of treasure to accumulate wealth

Not if you add the rupee coins
And they're not the same shape

9:54 PM
:P

I was thinking more of the Hylian variety

See? size goes with the amount

NZ coins are like that, can't remember about the notes

Anyone who's worked with skeletal animation that knows if Offset matrix and Inverse Bind pose matrix are the same thing?

9:59 PM
Depends what the people who wrote the engine thinks those mean and how they want to apply them..
My guess is the offset matrix would be the inverse of the Inverse Bind pose matrix...

Offset is used to transform vertices from modelspace to bone space
i cant recall what inverse bind pose was used for. Some resources talk only about offset and some only of inverse bind pose, which is why I'm thinking theyre the same thing.
also, not referring to a specific engine, it's for implementing it in my own

Sounds like they're the same

its literally just inversing the pose scaling i think
although the bone system probably obfuscates the real work

I call it origin_matrix in mine :P
"Inverse Bind pose matrix" is a much better term
but a mouthful

so what doees your origin_matrix do exactly? :p

10:06 PM
move everything to the point of origin

cancels out the original bone transform before applying the animated transform.
yep
to the bone's origin
aka bone space

Hm cancels out? Why is that necessary?

Because the bone doesn't start at the origin with no rotation
So you have to remove the original bone transform to not transform the model when the bone is in it's original position.
And only apply the "difference" between it's initial state and the new animated position.

DH.
10:55 PM
@jgallant Wtf did I just watch

Them bones?

DH.
I watched it since the start
It's on my list of the most weird games ever

@StephaneHockenhull I thinkkkkkkkkk i get it.
What format do you use to import animations? We have to use FBX which is a pain to work with

I wrote my own exporter plug-in for Modo

alright. Ill probably do that for Maya some day but since we're tasked by our teacher to use FBX we got no choice :|
