12:01 AM
Any Javascript gurus want to look at this question for me? gamedev.stackexchange.com/questions/80412/… :)

@bazola well, I don't know, but I think that null you said about far value, means it couldn't pick any object
aka the ray moves to infinity

very interesting, thank you
watching it in the debugger, when the raycaster initializes it has a far value of -100, then when i do the picking ray it nulls it out. I wonder if pickingRay is really necessary

12:30 AM
Hey guys

hey there

12:46 AM
How's it going?

well, I've been playing lots of dota lately
and that's all

Nice... I was just playing the destiny beta

1:20 AM
@IcyDefiance I don't think you can reuse a win8 install disc

should be able to, unless the key is on the disc, in which case I think there's just a config file that can be changed to remove it
even if the key is on the disc, you can just reuse it as long as the key is valid

Well I just read a super user post which said thst you had to remove the previous OS to be able to redo

that knowledge comes more from win7... but I doubt it's changed
well, yeah, that's called formatting

No no

that has nothing to do with the install disc, other than that you can format as part of the install process

1:23 AM
I messed that up
Fuck how the hell do I explain this...
@IcyDefiance

1. That limit applies to the key, not the disc
2. Reinstalling it on the same computer is not the same as installing it on a different computer
3. The limit to one computer only applies to OEM keys, I think. That's probably what you're dealing with here, but it's worth noting anyway.
4. DRM is stupid and it may prevent you from reinstalling on the same computer anyway. A lot of people get angry at this and just crack the OS instead because by the terms of the license they should be able to reinstall on the same computer.

Looks like pirating.
Or Linux

1:54 AM
best indieroyale ever?

Joe
2:06 AM
@IcyDefiance so how do you use your mega? im trying to figure out a workflow
i basically want to use it to archive past projects and data, like sync folders until complete? and then unsync and remove from local machine

I just use it for programming stuff. I put the whole visual studio project in the mega folder on my computer and work from there. The client takes care of the uploading for me.
kinda sucks that it uploads the binary folder too, but meh I have the bandwidth and it's too much work to compile to a different location
I'm not too sure the program will let you delete from the local machine without also deleting from their server... the files will still be in the rubbish bin or whatever it's called, but probably not permanently.

Joe
2:31 AM
hmm
ill have to figure out a way to do that

Myah

Joe
whats up hasher
this is for you

Playing around with Linux
OH BOY
A dammit, won't be able to play it for a while
Not on a solid OS as of now and don't have the web player

Joe
ahh
well its not finished anyway
but its progress
"much awesome"

Nice
Played DayZ since last time we played?

Joe
2:33 AM
nah im still there in the same logout
what was that? cherno?
if that character dies i practically need to buy a tombstone
just to memorialize it
because ill never get that geared again

Yeah sam

Joe
ooof whats the free soundboard
i lost it
someone shared it for the game jam

Damn, I have it somewhere
Give me a minute, trying to download chrome for linux

Joe
no problem
its just something weird abreviate letters and numbers

I can't figure out how to linux

2:42 AM
what distro?

xubunut
I just suck at everything so bad
Can't even figure out how to download chrome
Because apparantly every time I download it downloads amd64 instead of x86

so kpackagekit should be your package manager: userbase.kde.org/KPackageKit
that what you're using?

It has nothing to do with the actual files, it's just that google doesn't want to give me the write architecture

screw google, use the package manager to download it
unless it's not in the package mangaer

@IcyDefiance I can't even find the 'download' on this page

2:49 AM
nooo it should be on your computer. one forum says "in the computer menu", though I'm not sure if that's still the same

lol it's not

how about Muon package manager?

3:03 AM
Idk
Back on windows now
Ain't nobody got time for that

lol, the first 4 times I tried linux ended the same way

I'll try again when I have more time and patience

well, 2 of those attempts went great until I corrupted something and it wouldn't boot anymore...

Right now I just want to work on Snow Cone Sim 2014

3:26 AM
@IcyDefiance I have an XNA question for you.
When you do SpriteBatch.Draw(Texture, Rectangle, Color); what should I use for Color?
Color.White?

normally, yes
it's a color mask. if you do white, it won't change the color at all.

Alright, that's what I thought.
That was the only one that seemed to work

if you do (0, 1, 1, 1) it'll ignore the red channel of your sprite, giving it a blue-green tint

Yeah, that makes sense.

it's pretty cool, because I can draw a rectangle or line of any size or color with just a single white pixel for a texture

3:29 AM
All of our actors broke their arms, no we don't have a cast.

Nice

3:49 AM
My new computer is coming alive! :D
How funky. Firefox Sync automatically installed adblock plus for me

4:11 AM
It even installed the GreaseMonkey fire script automatically :O
Impressive

5:05 AM
@William'MindWorX'Mariager wow
so impress
such automatic
wow

Of all the memes you could've picked, you went with Doge. That made me die a little inside.
Now I have to go recover.
Goodnight

@William'MindWorX'Mariager Why? What's wrong with doge?
I'm not the best with memes TBH.
But I don't see anything wrong with it.

@AidanMueller a matter of taste, I suppose

I even put it in the little code backticks. I don't know why I do that. I guess I try to make it look like DogeScript.

I don't have any issues with it too but I think some could feel annoyed by that "dumb-speak" (intentional grammar errors) associated with it

5:17 AM
@snake5 I actually work part-time for grammar patrol, But I still use Doge.
Since it's intentional I guess I don't care.
Speaking of which, don't you mean that you don't have any issues with it either (not "too")?

yeah, probably
not sure about the grammar rules on that one and I'm in a bit of a hurry, I will check some references later though

Even if it's technically correct, there are some cases where certain things simply sound proper.

6:16 AM
shh THIS IS DOGESCRIPT

plz console.loge with 'doge friendly'

very dogescript is 'JS interpreter'

rly dogescript is 'JS interpreter'
plz console.loge with 'wow no way lol'
wow

@AidanMueller it's more like the other way around - it may sound proper but isn't correct
anyway, found the rule: [+] -> too, [-] -> either

What's with the plus and minus?

positive/negative

So too is right but either is wrong?

no, "too" is if you agree about something positive, "either" - if about something negative
I do too / I don't either
etc

6:20 AM
Ahh. I see.
Yeah that makes sense.
such sense

much right
very grammar
>_>

Some things are just righter than others :P
@snake5 BTW, have you looked at Dogescript?
It's rly cule.
I actually wouldn't mind programming in it tbh.
Better than PHP. LOL

everyone hates on php but the alternatives are far worse, tbh

"PHP is Hated by Programmers" should be what it stands for :)
Well I actually haven't really used it that much TBH.

by entitled programmers, sure
it gets things done rather well

6:24 AM
I tend not to complain about languages and APIs too much.

all the inconsistencies don't really matter since the documentation is awesome

I don't know why, maybe I just don't know what's good.
Documentation is always important. If one language was easier than another, but didn't have any documentation, I would totally use the harder language.

yeah
which is why I've spent a lot of time building documentation for my own language
not as fancy as dogescript but I think it gets things done rather well

@snake5 But is it doge-friendly? :P

depends on what you mean by that
there's currently no converter from anything doge-like to SGScript but it probably wouldn't be too hard to adapt this one

6:32 AM
It's just something that the dogescript website says.
It claims that the language is doge-friendly.
@snake5 So what is SGScript? Is it a scripting language like Lua that can be interpreted? Or is it like a native programming language.

a scripting language

Have you compared it's speed to Lua?
Or benchmarked it for that matter?

yeah, it's very close to Lua in terms of speed
as close as can be made before making it exactly like Lua

Hmm, fancy stuff you've got here.
Me gusta.

I made a few decisions that had a small performance impact in favor of technical stability
:)

6:37 AM
I would like to make a lang someday.
But that is nice what you have got there.
I like the little "try" thingy.
so fancy
very impress

Lua had the same thing so I thought that it would suck not to have it

I think your website should go with a light theme though. I don't know, not sure I like the colors.
Probably better than what I could do though. LOL.

I'll think of something there
but the dark theme will probably stay as the default one

I think that you mainly need to clean up that nav bar.

in dark working environments, it helps to have the monitor not lighting the whole room

6:40 AM
The links kind of look like one big pile of words. I think they need to be more clearly separated.

yeah, I suppose I could add separators of some kind there
some vertical lines perhaps

No, just do this:

or icons and borders..
@AidanMueller do what?

That ^
Smaller font size.
That already does something. Maybe a bit smaller yet.

ah
something doesn't feel right about it, though

6:44 AM
Oh! I noticed that you aren't defining font size. I think that I read that you should always define font size in EMs. I guess it makes it more compatible. Then again, nobody who would visit your site would use IE, so whatevs.
@snake5 Perhaps not, but I think it needs more color.

brb

Wow, I just changed the nav text to be a bit red, that really made it more interesting.

ok, I'm back
one of the ideas in design was that font size for the menu matched the logo font size

Well you do need a bit of variation.

upper and lower height of em square, to be exact

6:53 AM
Lol, for a sec I thought my PC blue-screened.

yeah, I do need that but perhaps it can be achieved with icons and background changes

Use firefox's inspector to experiment with colors; makes things quicker.
Just discovered that.
Especially the color selector.

I know about those things
I've been a web developer

Ahh.
Well I didn't know about it :P

we all learn something new each day :P

6:56 AM
@AidanMueller doesn't look quite as funny as LOLCODE. :)

@Almo I know. The problem with lolcode is that the spelling is so off that it's hard to use. But doge isn't as misspelled as it is simply using bad grammar.
Code doesn't really have grammar.
plz and stuff is about it.
@snake5 What do you think of blue?
I think the saturation might not be right, but I don't know.

blue seems all right

You definitely could round the corners on the right side of the logo though.

that red color feels kind of "sour", though

That's what I meant about the saturation.
BTW, I like the two-colored borders.
They look cool.
Anyways, it's > bedtime.

7:00 AM
fake sharpening effect
makes things stand out

Too bad CSS doesn't let you have multiple borders.
Then you wouldn't have to use two elements to do that.

CSS is full of tradeoffs
two steps away from render callbacks

I think it could be more object oriented more something.
I don't know, I would've done it differently.

the world has too many objects already
the CSS part itself is cool
some of the properties could be consolidated, though

I actually don't mind CSS too much, it's mainly when the implementation doesn't do what you expect it to.

7:03 AM
positioning is one big mess in particular

What I meant by object oriented, was this: border-bottom-color. Why not something like: border.bottom.color? I suppose the dash does that, but yeah.
Positioning is a nightmare.

@AidanMueller that's just a syntax thing

Was worse when old versions of IE were more popular.

there's no place for object orientation anyway since those properties have all kinds of expanding methods

Like chrome and FF would put something in the center, but then in IE it would be past the left side of the screen and put it all the way in china.

7:06 AM
yeah, IE did lots of weird things
that's mostly gone now

Well, the time is biggerish (dogescript >=) bedtime.
I must now venture out to the dark lands of livingroomia.
BAI

bye

4 hours later…
@Lasse if only linux would actually work

it does, I'm using it right now

I mean, work as in "not randomly crash and have odd latency issues"

I've never had those issues, you must have been used linux last time about ten years ago then

10:51 AM
when I drag the window on my mid-range PC, I don't want it to slither behind the cursor
@Lasse try "a few days ago"

You don't have to

fresh setup

I don't believe you

I don't care, it is what it is
ubuntu 14.04
nvidia graphics card
(but that doesn't change the crappy window dragging)

you can use whatever you want, you don't have to try to convert me to windows religion
or mac religion

Jon
10:54 AM
yeah, if you have nvidia, i'd suggest to not use linux
unfortunately, either get an ATI, or use something else.. aka windows

@Lasse I don't want to
I just want linux to work
I really do
I have to use it from time to time, simple as that

what's your problem then? your bad experiences are equal to my bad experiences with windows and I'm good using linux

@Lasse I think it's obvious what my problem is... and I don't believe that you had such experiences on Windows
your hardware was probably broken or something

I didn't say I had the exact problems, just equally annoying problems

@Jon I have to use all three of the big ones
@Lasse not sure if there's something as annoying as random crashes and "todo:break" UI

10:59 AM
if I recall I once made a list here in this chat why I use linux instead of windows, you can look it up if you want to see why

I don't think I can look it up if I don't know the date
